    Maggie, I am so glad you covered this issue. I know there are many people out there that just had colostomy surgery and are unfamiliar with how to get started getting supplies. When I first started out eight years ago, I hadn't gotten my insurance situation set up to get regular monthly supplies, so one time my dear husband had to drive over an hour away to get me pouches at a drug store, and we had to pay out of pocket, it was very expensive. Now, I am getting supplies through Edgepark, but find that I often need extra pouches, so I go through Amazon and buy from an individual seller there. Oh, yes, I have a good amount of supplies that I was not able to use, and I will very gladly give them to someone in need, maybe just have postage/shipping covered. If anyone reading this needs phalanges, bags, and I think I have a few other things like belts, adhesives, etc. Please get with me here to get started, I am happy to help. Hope everyone has a great week!!! 😊🧡

      Hello Ms. Forbes! Do you still have any extra ostomy supplies as mentioned in your post about 8 months ago??! I doubt it, and also I'm not sure how it would work, but I could really use a Belt and anything else you might have. I've never gotten in touch with anyone from TH-cam, though! (Also: I am not on Facebook.) Very nice of you to try to share your unused supplies.

    I get fairly decent prices on supplies on ebay. You have to dig around to find what you need, but I'm able to find good deals on "name brand" supplies most of the time. I also have an awesome friend who has a health spending account through work and she never uses all of it by the end of the year, so she buys me supplies and gets reimbursed for it. Maybe kinda shady, but we do what we have to do.

    Now using a 2 piece Coloplast with closed pouch and dog 💩bag for insert. It works really well and allows me to reuse the pouch! When changing just out with the old and insert a new! Works for me! 😁

      I prefer 1 pc but I still love having doggy bags on hand, they only give half the number of disposal bags required, so I keep a roll of 💩 bags in the bathroom so I can just grab one before hopping in the shower

    I cannot imagine having to pay for my ostomy supply out of pocket, or my insurance not deeming it necessary. I live in Switzerland and everything I could ever need is paid through my insurance. I place orders for three or four months at a time that cost THOUSANDS of dollars and there’s just no discussion. I can just call, and if things are in stock, I have them the next day.
    It’s unbelievable that so many patients in the US are put through the added stress of supply shortage. Living with an ostomy is challenging enough.

      @@sharonforbes162 Oh, I get it! I’m absolutely appalled. I’m very up-to-date in American politics - more than in my own country’s. And I’m getting angry on behalf of Americans every day. The s**t one specific party pulls is just beyond words. For them it’s definitely not about improving the average citizen’s life. Don’t get me started on Roe v. Wade. What a disaster! Ruled by the minority just cannot work.

    Here in Ontario Canada we get a payment twice a year to help cover the cost of ostomy supplies, my insurance covers 85% which is good I’m a retiree and it costs me $500. Per month. Using reusable bags. My skin only lasts four days before a flange change is required.
    I’ve heard horror stories from people who don’t have coverage

    • @Puglover130
      @Puglover130 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest getting your products on 20x the points day at shoppers, you’ll get about $50 in points per box!
      Also , to save money , you can join the Canadian ostomy association, its like $15 a year but you save 10-15% on supplies wherever they’re sold.
      Here in NB its all OOP unless you have coverage. Thank god hub has benefits - I upped us to “gold” because of the ostomy and everything else is paid at 100%. It saves a fortune

    Anyone else in the spot Maggie was in, thats inexcusable.
    Any doc, doesn’t have to be an ET nurse or colorectal surgeon. ANY GP or your gastro can do your RX and they dont even need specific pouch number. All insurance wants to know is that you need ostomy supplies.

    • @sharonforbes162
      @sharonforbes162 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is very true. Edgepark, where I get my supplies from, just asks that I have a physician that verifies that I do need supplies. I actually have a nurse practitioner that I go to and it's her name that I give Edgepark for verification.

    Hi Maggie it's Patricia and I'm a senior in Toronto Canada and our government does very little to help with ostomy costs as a senior I get approximately $450 twice a year which I'm sure you're aware doesn't cover much😢😢😢 I recently found on Amazon products that I have tested including O-rings barrier strips adhesive wipes and one piece ostomy bags you just wouldn't believe the price difference I am getting ostomy bags one piece for $2 each and you don't need an O-ring because they are flat and the barrier strips don't stick and I also found a pretty good adhesive wipe that is smaller so you need to use two or even three but considering there's a hundred wipes for only $13😮😮😮 if anybody wants information just ask and I will give you all the company names

I can't even get supplies if I'm an inpatient at my hospital When I was low and I would be in for awhile my mom had to get my supplies from home the hospital told me that won't give me supplies because I didn't come in with issue's with my stoma. Imagine it was the same hospital I had the surgery at. Thank's again for sharing your knowledge.

    Canadians , if you need pouches, go through SDM !! Well wise online. Omg I always get mine on 20x the points day so i get about 50$ free per box. And insurance pays 100%.
    Also the united ostomy association has an annual membership of $15 but members get a discount of 10% ostomy supplies most places.

    I plan to donate my extra Ostomy supplies. When I was in the nursing home everything was free. Now I'm in an Assisted Living facility and pay out of pocket. However I'm a US Army Veteran, so I'm going to the VA to get free Ostomy supplies. As a senior citizen on a fixed income I can't keep paying for supplies.

    A Ziplock bag and tape is a really sad place to be in, please don't think I'm being insensitive, But, I immediately remembered the Red Lobster incident and thought "Even that would've been better than having nothing."

    • @Puglover130
      @Puglover130 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk the red lobster incident, was it a blowout ?
      People need to be more sensitive. I think the general population 1. Doesn’t have any clue how many people have colostomy, 2. Think they would know if we did.
      I remember when I first got it I was at the dentist and my hygienist made a derogatory comment, about the dentist daughter who also has crohns. Something to the effect of, of course she doesn’t want a stinky s*** bag hanging off her! 😢
      I didnt get irate but did want to see her squirm a bit so she could learn how ignorant she sounded, so after a pause, I said oh yeah I also have an ostomy and its not easy to wrap your head around at first.
      You could have heard a pin drop. Of course she never apologized but tried to cover herself by saying , yeah her age blah blah. How will she ever find a man? Gasp.
      Some people are just dense.

    If anyone uses eakin seals I have like 2.5 boxes. They are expired but still unopened and pliable. The ines that are $135 a box.
    Free to someone who can use them
    Also. 3 boxes of Adhesive remover but they may mot be worthwhile to ship.
    I tried the free ostomy groups but they wont take expired product and I’d rather someone get to use then
