I live in England and just wanted to express my gratitude for your photography videos. They've been incredibly helpful for me, I'm considering a career change from computer science to photography. Have been teaching Spanish to Indonesians and would like to travel to Indonesia at the end of the year. Try to contact digital nomads, I know several who live there. Keep up the amazing work!

Talking about energy and bad weather. I live in Norway. Sunrise is 0930 and sunset is 1430 for three months during winter. With an office job I see no sun. It’s still snowing here and grey/dark. Sometimes making a move can be scary and rewarding at the same time. I've lived on 4 continents, 6 countries and on an island. My last move was to take me from LA to Australia as a former employer was in the process of finishing a new facility there and I was a very familiar with the business, but fate intervened and I ended up in Vienna instead where I mainly have worked creatively as a freelancer, but now living in the Alps close to Italy. Been here in Austria for 30+ years, no regrets. Wishing you all the best.

Leaving the UK is the best thing I ever did - and I'm British! The entire country is miserable and has given up for the most part. If you can't find positive people to be around then going somewhere else is the best option! You can't allow the negativity to affect you so leave it behind!

I’m so glad you can relate to this. The UK has changed so much. And more and more British are sharing the same opinion as us now. You can feel the huge change of energy in general. I’m a very empathetic person so I was suffering a lot being surrounded by that. I’m glad you left and you’re happy with the decision. 🥰 We need to be where our souls are happy. I talked to an Indonesian friend of mine who is very concerned about, what she calls, the "gentrification" of Bali where Westerners come to live on the island to take advantage of the cost of living. Apparently digital nomads have pushed most of the locals away from being able to afford to live in Bali's city centre as costs of real estate go up, to where the average Balinese person on a minimum wage is pushed out to the suburbs and countryside. She also maintains there's this weird aspect of colonialism where cashed up Europeans are expected to be treated like royalty, where that cheap cost of living expats enjoy comes at the real cost of stagnation of wages for the locals. These were just some of the points she raised where those who have money to be made catering to tourists are happy, but those that don't can't stand them.

As someone who has left Europe alone to establish myself in North America, I can very much relate to this. I think the biggest fear is that overhanging cloud of uncertainty for the first few years wondering "Will I be able to stay?" Immigration is a huge hurdle to overcome, which has taught me a lot of patience, but it's also very fear-inducing as you are left with little control over your own life during that process and you think twice how far you should invest before you know you can officially settle. But it's a risk worth taking. I don't regret it and am a Canadian citizen now with a well-established career in the Hollywood film industry. Your vision will get you through. After 10 years now, I feel like moving on though. And that thought, again, is scary.

Spain may be beautiful but it’s not about how beautiful a place is. It’s incredibly expensive to be freelance there. It’s one of the most expensive countries in Europe when working for yourself. The salaries are way lower, what is paid to photographers is way lower, and creative opportunities? Very few. Unless you live in big cities like Madrid or Barcelona. I left Spain for many reasons. It’s not about how beautiful a place is. I wish it would be that easy. 😄

I am exactly in your position now, living in a place that makes me feel miserable and sad despite doing what I like most of the time. And about the depression and lack of vit D, that's exactly what I am living.

I've done it twice, the moving country thing. First, to South Korea, and then in 2018 to Germany. You're right, it's not easy, but you have to have an open mind, be determined, and don't worry about making mistakes. It's part of the learning process. Bali's wonderful, but I wasn't a big fan of the monkey's Ubud 😁

One can tell you are a Mediterranean spirit 😊 The craving for that energy must have been there from day one, no? I wonder what made you decide to go to Bali specifically? There must have been other places you considered that tick off the boxes you mentioned? What about going back to Spain at some point now that your work is not that localized? Do you miss family? Bali is quite a bit further away from home

I think it would be very risky to move to Bali without a few very stable monthly income. Word is changjng by second, so remote works and online incomes. Congrats to all those who managed income security and can live in such places!

Hola Laura, me encanta tu personalidad y tú canal, estoy aprendiendo mucho contigo.

Compared to Asia, still rubbish weather and too expensive. The mentality of the people is also different as she explains in her video. There are so many British people who move to Asia for those exact reasons.

The English countryside is even worse than London. 😅 It may be cheaper but there are way less creative opportunities, less career opportunities, not many things to do, terrible weather, complete isolation, no multiculturalism like in London which I personally love. I lived in the English countryside for a year and never again. 🫣 It’s definitely not for me. 😄
