Very interesting. Thank you. My mom sews repurposed Jean bags etc. She bought a Janome HD 2200. Kept jamming in the first 2 months. The reason we got this machine was because it showed 7 layers of denim can be sewn; we did not realize there were different types of denim; we should have said need a machine to sew 7 layers of 'jean' denim the heavy weight kind. Anyways, the took machine back and sent it back free of charge and it seems to be working good now. GREAT VIDEO!!!! P.S. I LOVE YOUR SERGER THREADER video!!!

    For myself, I want to
    1) be able to use the denim scraps I've got from making "cut-offs" for variety of purposes, including cat or other pet toys 🤩
    2) Be able to get creative with those cutoffs or hem jeans for my short self lol
    3) Upcycle for handbags, backpacks, and camping gear
    4) I'm also determined to make wool cloaks, and think denim trim for hoods or batwing sleeves would be awesome. OH! AND I think inner denim POCKETS for those cloaks will be FANTASTIC 😂
    5) LOTS of times I would have loved making denim straps or jewelry (neck chokers or arm cuffs, for example) but the needlework to do it by hand isnjust too much for me
    6) I'm open to suggestions 🤣🥰🤣
I've got a HUGE backlog of ideas to follow through on, and I'm finally giving myself permission to GO FOR IT 😊
😳😳 wish me luck lol 🥹

I’m interested in a tutorial on how to cut and hem jeans since I am short and most of them are too long for my height. I just recently purchased a Brother 3817.

I'm in the middle of overwhelming research myself. How has the 3817 performed for you?
I know know one YT DID do a vid about beginner machines under 100, and that one was her top choice and DID go through 8 denim layers (standard thickness, I guess)
I just ordered the same machine as you, but I'm anticipating learning on it and then upgrading, and the 3817 can be for my kiddos or a backup or whatever. This way though I'll maybe have SOME idea and be more comfortable with getting something more long term lol
I've got a suspicion I'll be unhappy though, if I try to get a "do it ALL" machine for under $300. 😂😂😂

Thanks for the tutorial. I am just trying to do basic hems on my jeans. Jean legs are always to long. I have the correct size needles. Singer 100/16 (blue) I think. So, as far as the thread, should I get the 12 wt? And should that be the same for the bobbin thread?. Thanks. Newbie here.

My husband bought me the Brother LX3817 so that i can learn to sew.
(I'm terrified of sewing machines) 😂
But I found your into video to it. I watched it. I'm trying.
I have a surplus of denim that I can no longer fit and would love to try and make a quilt.
    Help!!

Aww, that's a NICE sewing machine, don't be scared of her :) Denim can make a wonderful quilt. You could do one of these raggy quilts, and probably get away with just using one layer of flannel th-cam.com/video/5NnouujpNlM/w-d-xo.html

@momdoesstuff When I relocated from California to Oklahoma, my neighbor made me a denim quilt. It's my favorite blanket in the world, but it weighs almost 30 lbs. Lol
I want to learn to make em for my son.
