Top tip - the webbing side has a loop at the end of the strap. Pass the loop onto the web strap itself. When you adjust the web piece the loop will slide on the strap and with the tension there will be no loose tail. There you go - that is the reason for the loop at the end of the web strap.
Embarrassed i never noticed that before!! Tried it today and damn, perfect solution. Thanks for the tip!🤯
You can also loop the two parts together to make a completely "circular" strap for when you don't have an anchor point. (You just loop the one end-loop into the other end-loop, if that makes sense). That way, you completely encircle whatever you are strapping to with the Rok strap. Probably not relevant to cycling uses, but plenty of backpacking and camping uses.

I love Rok Strap! I’ve used them on my motorcycle for strapping a spare truck wheel/tire to the back seat to get repaired as well as to strap our Christmas tree to the back seat to take to the recycle facility. They’re super strong and also come in a reflective version.

Yep, Rok straps are great. I have panniers on my rear rack for stuff that fits, but also a pair of Rok straps for all the other stuff: Ikea goodies, giant packs of T. P. , Rolled etching paper, case of diet coke, etc. They take up no room when not in use, so I always have them in my tool roll. Mine are 3-4 years old now and still look new.

Super helpful! I've also noticed you posting a lot about brooks saddles lately. I find mine to be uncomfortable, but recently I changed the angle it was at and it felt 100x better. You guys should post a video about how you've set up your saddles, handlebars, etc to be as comfortable as possible! Not many people talk about optimizing cockpit comfort and I'm sure there's a lot you can say about it
Hi James! Great idea. I also just adjusted my Brooks on a different bike (not the round the world Sutra one) and it feels sooo much better. I didn't realize the angle wasn't up enough and it definitely makes a difference. I think there is definitely a video in this! EveryBODY is different but there are some things to look out for and slight adjustments that can really increase comfort!
Good point about the problem of adjusting tension with a bungee once it's in use.
Wow, those are awesome, thanks for review (and pointing out their existence). So many "adventures in bungie land" flashbacks. Having an elastic rack strap that was always the right length without the added excitement of possible maiming would probably have saved me several days over the years.
Haha right?! Using old tubes (road tire ones are best as they are thinner and a little more manageable) is also a great option but doesn't allow for quick adjustments on the fly. Love my ROK straps!
Nice review. I loved the rok straps on my motorcycle. The things I could strap to my passenger seat was amazing. Held on rough roads and speeds we won’t discuss in public 😎

Excellent video as is your Voile video. Two questions...If you had to choose one strap over the other (Rok v. Voile) for long or short tours or simply commuting, which would you prefer? Also, have you ever tried the John's Strap sold by Rivendale? They seem to be a popular choice for touring. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Like them. Bodily damage from bungee cords are a real thing. On my hiking packs, just tying the slack ends into bows is easy.
Yea, I should have mentioned while they are super useful for bike touring, I've also found them useful for other applications too

Would they also be regarded as an alternative to voile straps, or for different applications?
I bought a couple of these straps and although they seem great at securing the load on your bike. I find them a bit fiddly to leave on my bike rack when not in use. Like you mentioned, you have to make sure the straps aren’t dangling and are properly secured when not in use on your rack. It could be dangerous if they get caught in your wheels.

On another matter: I have a Specialized Hybrid bike and it is designed for that lovely California weather you have most of the time not horrid wet weather we get in the UK. That is: nowhere for the water to go in the Freehub and Crank so the bearings get rusted up and regularly have to be replaced. Maybe you could do a video on this issue at some point. Great tips by the way. I love your helpful advice.👍

I just got the shorter commuter pair and they don't hold tension at all. Do they have to be pressed down on something all the time? If the buckle is to the side of my gear it doesn't really make contact with it and hold no tension at all. Confused.
I don’t quite understand. You should be able to cinch it tightly around your gear ( are they too long?) And yes it should stay when you pull the band.
@@radbikeadventure I figured it out yesterday. Here was the issue. On the elastic/stretchy side there is only one loop to attach it to your rack. The non-elastic side has two loops, but one of those loops is meant to be the pull while the other loop is the one for the rack. If you don't get it right, it won't stay cinched. Once I realized that, it works perfectly.
Isn't it too long? Do you think the Commuter version which is 28" can be a bit shorter?
That is cheap (not expensive) and really cool and in the UK is only about £9 a pack.

📌How do you prefer to lash down your gear??
I use nylon straps with, not sure what to call them, "over and under" buckles. You can find them in different sizes and lengths at REI, MEC, anywhere that sells camping gear. I figure they're simple, pretty cheap and if something breaks I can always use it to tie something on. Like to try volie straps, maybe for next year's post pandemic tour
Ben Furriel Nice! Yea Voile straps are awesome too but for bigger stuff (and when using a rack) I prefer the Rok straps
