When I lived in Paris, I was able to find vegan options at non French food restaurants like Ethiopian, Indian, Algerian/Moroccan, etc. There was also some vegan restaurants I discovered, but they were very few!

Really cool video! I was vegan before moving to South Korea where it might even be worse than France in terms of people not understanding/no options, so I quit for the same reasons you gave. I recently became vegan again after two years (still in Korea), and yeah I have to make some "sacrifices" and people don't understand why I turn down their food, but I was tired of having to justify my (tbh selfish) choices to myself. I do focus more on the ethics, though, so I knew I would get over myself and be vegan again eventually.
I'm not trying to judge you at all for being vegetarian! I get the honest anxiety that comes with feeling like you're offending loves ones or that you're missing out on the "full experience" when travelling. I just wanted to share that it is possible to be vegan in an annoying not vegan country haha. Also if you haven't watched any of L'Effet Chimpanzé's videos, I recommend the one on dairy and dairy cows!

Other than that, I think it's cool that you've kept your English and speak it damn near perfectly. Great job! Also, as I said, the videos are really informative culturally, because I'm Canadian and we're kind of like Americans in some ways, so it's interesting having another perspective, so thanks for taking the time to make these videos and upload them!

This is the first time I'm early to one of your videos. 🙂
I'd like to thank you for all your advices. I discovered your channel on December. I've struggled with overweight since I was 13. I tried many restrictive diets since then, and some worked for a few months, but eventually I couldn't keep up with them and gained the weight back.
I found your video on intuitive eating and saw that you described my exact experience, so I decided to try that method as a year resolution for 2021.
January and February were difficult. I didn't really understand what kind of food I should eat or the right quantities. I had to resource to calorie counting just to make sure I wasn't eating too much. Although, I didn't log meals strictly, I just checked for reference.
It wasn't until March that I got the hand of it. I found a good routine for breakfasts and snacks. Starting walking regularly. I was able to lose 5 kg last month.
I'm still struggling with junk food though 😅, but still I appreciate all your videos, keep the good work.
    Greetings from Miami 😎🇺🇸

In Saint Tropez, I ordered the "risotto vegan". It was covered in butter and cheese even though it was straight up called vegan. I think because it was a pesto-y green base, they just assumed it was vegan? I've found that eating vegetarian in the south and other regions of France is pretty easy, but it is not accommodating to vegans. Eating vegan in Paris is easy, though.

Easier to be vegan in the US than in France. France is addicted to cheese which is animal suffering at its most. French also are addicted to saucisson also an epitome of animal suffering. So when I go back home in France, I cooked whole vegan meals for my friends and family and they really like it. A lot more vegan restaurants in Paris now.

I was two years ago in Paris and I could survive as a vegan. i had a small kitchen where most of the time I could cook and make my breakfast but struggled at the beginning. Because at the beginning the stores I found were so expensive I didn't buy so many fruits and vegetables but after a while so two days I knew everything and was familiar and it was not a big deal. Besides that I found vegan restaurants and even a vegan glutenfree patisserie. I love french people and the culture and therefore it was a bit hard not to join the foods they like but I got a bit feeling with the restaurants I visited.

I've recentley been to France for a year and turned vegan a few months before leaving again. I lived in a small village, so for example the supermarket didn't have vegan cheese, the meat substitutes we're really shit, and a liter of plant milk costed like 2€ upwards (i now live in Germany again where it can cost like 0,99€). Going to restaurants also wasn't that easy, but definitely easier in bigger cities. I recommend everyone to use happy cow, it's an app that shows you vegan restaurants or places with vegan options in the surroundings.
French people often indeed don't really get veganism, dairy products are seen as part of a healthy diet, the thought of not eating them is just weird to alot of people. So to conclude, being vegan in France is definitely possible, but it's not a vegan friendly place. I was amazed when I went back to Germany and saw so many different vegan cheeses, yoghurts, meat substitutes, vegan chocolate, vegan cookies, whatever anything in vegan available in the supermarket (and also everything is labelled as vegan).

A past roommate of mine cannot have gluten- not celiac, just SUPER sensitive and it makes her really sick. However, when she is in Europe, she can eat anything containing gluten because I guess the process is different in Europe. It’s also why she’ll go to international grocery stores in the US to get her glutenfull food :) and she’s not the only one. I know a lot of extremely gluten sensitive people that can eat gluten products made in Europe.

I'm considering becoming vegetarian and I was wondering how it would be if I visited France, hence watching this video. I eat halal meat (and no pork) and many a times when eating out I felt I should lie and say I'm a vegetarian, because otherwise I'm presented with fish wrapped in bacon 😬or given a dessert that has gelatine in it 😒
I laughed when you mentioned Portugal - not eating pork or non-halal meat is already a challenge, and many people don't get the concept of vegetarian. But things are changing and if you eat mainly at home I believe is doable, and if you're traveling in the main cities it's possible to find many good vegetarian options. Anyway, I'd like to ask if it would be possible to do a video with vegetarian meals family style (like what your mum and your family would eat in a week or weekend)? I know you've done plenty but something more family oriented and that you could share with friends? Thank you 🙂

    coucou, marion cotillard 😃

I have been on a vegan diet on and off for several decades, and I too hate the taste of goat cheese. Although I'm open to trying new vegan foods, I find when it comes to dairy I only like the taste of cheeses I had in my childhood; cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan, colby, Monterrey jack and American cheese. I think it's kind of hypocritical for the French to always bash Americans for their food, because the French also eat a lot of fatty junk foods like Croque Monsieur and consume a lot of super unhealthy butter and cheeses that block their arteries, although the French are not so fat (I think it's partially due to their smoking which helps with weight control). But the universal health care takes very good care of people and people are highly medicated so they live long even though they suffer from atherosclerosis and cancers. In Paris everybody is "forced" to smoke because the cigarette smoke is everywhere, you can't avoid getting your dose of secondary smoke every time you go out. American cities like Houston are perfectly free of cigarette smoke, but in Paris it's difficult to have a healthy lifestyle when people are so disrespectful and don't care about other people's health (secondary smoke kills 1000 people every year in France). And you know that France is the second biggest market for McDonald's in the world after the US, and France is much smaller than the US.... And at the same time there are a lot of super healthy and conscious individuals in the US, especially in California and NYC...

    • @kellyb1330
      @kellyb1330 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Jeez ...from what I've seen, the main difference in obesity rates between France and the U.S are that the French - while they eat lots of fatty foods - eat slowly (savor) and eat mostly whole foods. I feel like bread and cheese is healthier there bc it's less processed than American versions. I really do think that sitting down to a home-cooked meal which is often the case in France does a lot to affect your health. Whereas in America food is always eaten on the go or in front of a TV, and it's often take-out / fast food. Treating food as a social occasion where you eat slowly and enjoy food and company has been shown to extend lifespan. Of course this isn't all Americans and All American food but way more Americans behave and eat this way then the French do.

    • @peterd4390

@@kellyb1330 The French sit down to enjoy their long lunches yes and taking time to eat with family and friends and focusing on your food definitely improves your digestion and helps with weight control (not all French people smoke and those who don't smoke are not as fat as obese Americans that's right). But the traditional French diet is still very unhealthy and bad for you even if you stay skinny and this is the reason why the French people need so many medications (cholesterol, blood thinning and high blood pressure drugs for instance). Rural Chinese, Japanese Okinawan, Kenyan and many South American peoples have truly healthy diets (mostly plant-based) and don't need drugs or medications.

And by the way, baguette is not a whole food. The French rarely eat 100% whole grain bread. Often the so called whole grain breads are made of mostly white wheat flour.

I’d definitely not survive in France 😭😂 I have such a hard time here! I have Crohn’s and gluten and dairy are huge triggers! Honestly meat is kinda impossible to digest and then on top of that I’m vegan-ish for ethical reasons. What’s a lady to do lol.

I would not suggest that you pretend to be allergic to something that you aren't.
It's a shit thing to do and it's akin to crying wolf. The only difference is, it's not going to happen you when the "wolf" comes, it's going to harm someone that actually has an allergy.
    Don't do it.

In prehistoric times we ate mainly meat with small amounts of fruits and vegetables that we could get hold of, and ate no grains. Modern day health problems are caused by a shift towards a plant heavy diet.
We should ideally be eating a huge chunk of fatty meat and a small handful of berries. Instead we eat a big bowl of grain with small pieces of meat.

I ... please tell me you're trolling when you say "modern health problems are caused by a shift towards a plant heavy diet". You don't have to be vegan to look at what Americans eat, their rates of disease, and then realize that statement is complete bullshit.

@@justynasword9487 Most vegans know this, but still lie to promote their diet.
We are made of saturated fat and cholesterol,, so why on earth would it be bad? Neither raises insulin or causes inflammation, so they therefore do not cause weight gain or heart disease.

@@mightyPavan2010 too much animal fat actually clogs the insulin receptors on cells so that insulin can’t get the glucose into cells. High blood sugar is the symptom, not the root cause. And meat and dairy are highly inflammatory foods. 100% Grass fed meat in small quantities is not inflammatory but that is not how most people eat it. I think you have some more research to do.
