There is a reason banana fish has gained a legendary status in Japan.

Tell me more about it’s status in Japan, as this show blew me the fuck away and I’ve been watching anime since I was in the single digits in the early 90’s. I’m probably in over 7,000 episodes and several hundred series’ and I can assure you I’m not what you’d picture a devoted anime obsessor to be like. I want to know how this show and manga hit Japan

@@KFlexFantastic it actually won best anime in jp charts back in 2018, and inspired a plethora of newer manga and anime (Notably No.6, considering it was originally a Banana fish fanfic). And of course, because of Ash and Eiji's groundbreaking relationship, a lot more jp people accepted mlm relationships in media!

The manga is considered masterpiece and quite famous in Japan.
      But anime...?
Few people know that manga is adopted to anime because the manga is very old like 30 years ago.
And yes banana fish won best anime in 2018, but it is mostly because many fujoshis voted for it.
Sadly other than fujoshis, very few people are interested in or don't even know that exists.
Yuri on ice is much much more well known and popular.

I never watched such a realistic anime like banana fish .
Some animes take up concept of rape and sexual violence and then just make it a joke . This was the only anime i watched till date that did justice to these dark subjects and presented them rightly .

I agree. Banana Fish, in my opinion, was the best anime of 2018, or at least in the past few years. Thank you for being so open-minded and sharing your eloquent analysis with us! Banana Fish gave us pragmatic, emotionally-invested characters that each have a unique backstory, motivation, and personality traits that interconnected with one another brilliantly. I loved the unique relationship between Ash and Eiji and all their time spent together. Their soulful bond portrayed several of Banana Fish's main themes, such as the importance and value of self-love, self-worth, and altruism despite their harrowing journey through a long, dark, and tumultuous tunnel that finally came to a light at the end for the both of them. We seriously need more anime like this.
Keep spreading the word! Use any propaganda tactic possible!

Never understood how this anime didn’t get more hype considering how well-renowned the manga is. Also an insanely good adaptation and follows the manga to a tee. Also, none of the big AniTubers even really touched it. This is a story that will stay with you long after it has ended.

Banana Fish was so damn emotional, it was amazing to watch. It dealt with dark and triggering themes so well and was nothing like popular anime right now with perverted teenage characters or intense yelling with nothing inbetween.
The fact that no real characters died emotionally really shows what it's like to be in street gangs, death is sad, yes, but it happens in that lifestyle. (Exclusing Shorter, Skipper and Ash)
It also proves that any two people can be friends just with trust as the foundation.
Definitely recommend now it's finished, it's really bingeworthy.

I binge watched this anime at from like 11pm-3am and then finished it the next day. This anime was beautiful, I really liked how grounded and real all of the characters feel. It really helped that the fight scenes aren’t done over the top and unnecessarily dramatic like they are in most anime’s. (I’ve watched other anime but like idk how much at this point, short attention spans suck.) Anyways watching the mystery of Banana Fish unfold and the characters journeys was a real treat and I will never forget it.

Thank you so much for bringing light to a show that people were quick to call "yaoi" and never watch again. To be honest, I don't get how that happened, because it's so underrated but easily one of the best animes out there.
I 100% agree with you on so many aspects. The way that Eiji and Ash were portrayed just made me 10 times happier. You could actually feel their emotions and see the trouble in their eyes. It is just so human to me.
On top of that, all of the characters (except maybe Arthur) were introduced in such a beautiful and amazing way. You could see intention in their actions. And the biggest characters (Dino, Ash) made chills run down my spine in so many of the different parts of the anime - I was always anticipating what they would do next.
Thank you again for bringing light to this AMAZING anime. The fandom is seriously mature (more than most), the anime is overall an artistic masterpiece, and not only the art, but the sound and voice direction made it amazingly beautiful (I still listen to the soundtrack to this day AT LEAST once a week).
If you're seeing this anime for the first time, PLEASE FINISH IT. It will have you bawling, laughing, and overall SUPER invested. (and the bawling part you will definitely do at the last moments of the anime.)
Thanks for reading this comment, stranger! Have a good day and watch/appreciate Banana Fish.

Banana Fish was the anime of 2018 for me. Weekly watching the episodes and discussing them with friends shaped last year for me. I’ve never watched anime as it aired before and Banana Fish was one of the first I followed week by week and it was an experience 👌🏻
I agree with your take on Ash and Eiji relationship, they helped each other and were exactly perfect for each other, if they haven’t met they would’ve been just a shell of themselves (however I do think Ash would’ve succeeded in his revenge plan anyways but perhaps at cost of his soul)

Banana Fish is amazing for so many reasons, but I really appreciate how they show how even though these two boys are from different countries and cultures, they're both just people. It's easy to feel disconnected from people from other cultures because of the stereotypes, they way they talk, etc. But really, we're all feeling, thinking, and experiencing similar things! We're all capable of the same thoughts and emotions, regardless of where we come from. it's easy to forget that sometimes, at least for me, so I really really love how banana fish showed such a genuine relationship between such different people.

As there are not that many videos about it that I could find, anything counts, but you outdid yourself here and really sold the anime for what it is. I truly aporeciate the wholehearted effort. This anime filled me and crushed me at the same time, sometimes for the same reasons. It covered touchy subjects with such maturity and realism that it made me proud, but of course also hurt me because POOR ASH and every other victim. Because BF is so realistic I should have expected the ending, but I am too hopeful about everything, too positive and innocent and soft for a world so cruel. I am just glad that Ash and Eiji were able to find each other and learn and grow and be, as Ash said,"completed." It's what they both needed.

I do believe that it has its ups and downs as it does have its flaws as a show, however the small details that the creators gave attention to the anime is what I appreciate most. I never read the manga however I have heard a lot of praise from the fans who have read it and I think as far as adaptation goes MAPPA did a great job of converting it to anime, me as an anime only enjoyed the characters and story itself and I do love that it stayed true to the original ending. However, I can’t say I fell in love with the series until I watched the anime. So from a manga-reader who saw the anime second, the anime (in my opinion) only adds upon and enhances the original story. I truly enjoyed the anime more. I love, love, love this show. Even though it broke me TT^TT I've been wanting to re-watch it but I've not been in the emotional headspace

Look different stories and different worlds but man does ash and eiji and vi and caitlyn from Arcane hold so much wait with so many similarities between them.

The worst thing you can think about is if Ash doesn't die and Eiji just randomly betrays him for no reason. It will never happen, but it came across my mind for a quick minute.
