Hi Barry, youre right, it is starting to look like a tractor again. I didn't realise David Browns were built like brick lavvies which is probaby why there are so many still going strong. i wouldn't worry too much about camera flare etc. your vids are a lot better and informative than many that get posted. Keep them coming!

New sub from Ireland. Drove a DB Cropmaster TVO, 25D and 880 Selectamatic as a kid. Love your commentary on your videos.

thanks Johnpaul for the kind words, I'm pleasently supprised how many are still going and being looked after by enthusiasts. I know of a farm near Wark the guy has 12 DB's and won't part with any of them.
      thanks for watching

Hi Barry. Coming on well now! I think those two cap head screws are correct; at least my 880 has them too.

the very honest answer to that is I don't know yet as I've not started it since rebuild, but I have heard they were supposed to be excellent starters in their day, if you have access to a compression tester do a dry and wet test this should give you some indication as to the condition of the rings and or valves.
many thanks for watching your time is greatly appreciated

As a part answer to your question both Barry’s 990 and my implematic 990 have the same engine a AD4/47 or whatever it is anyway it’s the 990 with wet liners…this is the DB engine that gave DB the reputation for excellent starting characteristics and is akin to those of a Fordson Major…. the engine in your 996 is a sort of a different animal no wet liners parent bore block and different bore stroke ratio….they can along with the later 990s be a bit more crappier at starting from cold in my experience but this is probably more down to slack of compression from any of the usual reasons or a lazy starter/battery/earth reason or maybe the injection pump is clagged up with crap and not allowing max fuel at startup…it may even just be letting air get into the diesel system…….hope this is of some use or comfort as not all DB engines are the blissful starters some will lead you to believe…..the 990 was the best selling DB tractor the ever produced in all its years of production and a good number of them were the same as mine and this one of Barry’s it was the popularity of this type and especially its model engine that earned DB the deserved reputation for being an excellent starter and all round performer

Hi bp3m you would first need to carry out a diagnostic of your problems to see what need fixing.

I fully recommend joining the DBTC web forum and posting your question on there. Plenty of great advice, and it’s free!

Hi John, as David says join the DBTF there are loads of extremely experienced tractor guys there, but I don't think your going to be able to increase the preasure as it's set at 2000psi at manufacture, if you watch the weekly yarns this sunday i try to give some answers to your question and checks you could carryout, hope this was helpfull.
      thanks for your support
      Barry
