    I started making up to 3 cameras, 2 on tripods, one for floating around, standard practice, even when the client's budget doesn't allow for it. I don't have to use all 3 cameras' footage, but it's nice to have it if I need it. It gives me 3 different angles to choose from in the editing, it's nice to have the peace of mind knowing that at least one of those cameras has the coverage and if one camera happens to fail, I can pick up one of the other two and keep shooting.

    Two cameras, even if one is on a tripod, are MANDATORY at weddings. That second camera coverage is so important when the unexpected, like "I'd like to thank ____" during a toast or the pastor ackowledging family and friends during the ceremony happens.

    Thank you so much man!! Feels so good to know that I am not alone with all these thoughts. Of course I'm not. But many times I feel like a one man army. And it's a lot to lift.
    Currently editing my first serious wedding video. so far i'm pretty happy about what I created. But it's different from day to day from scene to scene. I'm very close to the finish line and again I feel so overwhelmed with the edit. I think the main things that blocks me is finding the right music that captures all of the emotions and creates the right feeling and message.
    Coz having edited everything and then eventually see that you have chosen the wrong music makes you start allover again. And that's a killer.
    I really like the way you present the issues and yourself in the videos. Thank you. I very much appreciate it. I'm sure you are a wonderful videographer to work with.
    Have a great summer. much love from Berlin, Germany.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your kind words! I totally understand the struggle, music can be one of the most challenging and time consuming areas because it really is the driving force. I have edited/re-edited/stopped editing a wedding altogether because I just couldn't find the inspiration to serve the story. If you are overwhelmed, take a few days away from the project altogether, do something different besides editing to recharge and get a different perspective. I do this often and it does help. Another thing, don't overthink, try editing off of feeling, most times your gut feeling is the right one so leaning into that emotion can help drive your art forward. You got this friend!

Be intentional, capture what you need from the groom and bride during prep and then relax. The good thing is you have complete creative control to do whatever you want!

    • @kthx1138
      @kthx1138 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't speak for the originator of this video, but I'm of the opinion that, while 4K is great for a short highlight reel, 1080p is perfectly fine, upscales nicely on a 4K TV and anything above 1080p is overkill for the long version. 4K file sizes are astronomical, taxing on your computer in every way, hard drive storage, processor speed and RAM. And then there's the issue of playback compatibility on your clients' hardware after you hand them a 4K video on flash drive or other means. Will the video play smoothly, or will it freeze up, break up into pixels or simply not be recognized to play at all? 1080p is a sure bet.

  • @jaredalvarez890
    @jaredalvarez890 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really messed up some shots, since I was using a long lens, the most important shots came out super shaky like really bad, I'm editing the video video and I am just thinking "how did I mess up like this", the vows were so shaky, I had a tripod but it's so weird because the legs are not the same length so I didn't use it at times, so the gear is really important

  • @osseo19

    ❤️❤️❤️

  • @waynosfotos
    @waynosfotos ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just a couple of things:
    I do disagree with the gear doesn’t matter.
    Having that extra camera, gets you another angle, a new lens gives you a new perspective, having a monopod allows higher lower angles, a second recorder gives you another backup. Gear does matter because a wedding is a unknown event, you can plan, but people do things differently, so you plan for the unexpected and gear helps this.
    Which brings me to the second point, a live event is exactly that, it flows, it weaves, it has its own mind. You are the fly on the wall recording it. This is how you adapt and make those moments yours. Sometimes something we don’t plan for is our best moment. I do believe we need to put our own artist look on the video as this is our stamp and why people book us.
    The thing is, no one knows what we missed or took a bad clip, because we only edit in the good stuff. But it is all exciting!

    I'm curious into the 4k wedding world, how many GB's do you typically have in 4k footage at the end of the day?

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! A typical wedding day for me with the R6 is around 250GB. 4K comes with the larger file sizes for sure. If you are using multiple 4cameras you can expect at least 500GB per wedding, including drone and audio files

  • @EyeLensWeddingVideography
    @EyeLensWeddingVideography 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In my opinion content matters more BUT!! gear also matters, having good quality gear and the right gear does makes a difference. For instance you can't have a cheap budget microphone in order to get good quality sound. having a kit Lens will not look as good as a more expensive quality lens, or not having good lights or durable light stands. but with that being said it doesn't mean that you can't create a fantastic film project. they're definitely workarounds to where you can put out good film projects. but you don't want to spend your entire filmmaking career doing workarounds all the time. if you want to grow and become better and improve your quality of your work you need to buy new gear however don't go broke trying to do it, get what is needed first and what you can afford as your business grow invest in your business and upgrade your equipment when you can or is needed. Sure you could take a Canon Rebel T3i and make a Cinematic Short Film or music video with it. I have seen a few really good ones, but that camera does has some limitations to it and upgrading your equipment will improve the quality of your work.
    I also have listened to a lot of TH-camrs doing product reviews on gear saying that you should have this. you can't always trust some TH-camrs for the simple fact a lot of times they get gear for free to test out, and after they get done testing it out they don't always use them that long, and half the time that gear is ridiculously expensive when there are cheaper alternatives.. let's take the lighting for instance I have a a7S3 before that I had a a73 so low light has not been a huge deal for me. but it is still best to have lights. for years I've mostly used a yn216 ($60) lights and I threw a couple of Flash softboxes on those lights that I got from eBay for really cheap and most of the time that's all the lighting that I had and needed.
    For years I've use those lights and haven't really had an issue. it might have been a couple weddings where the Dance floor was really really large. and I probably could have used one of those more expensive lights but it was very very rare for me to have a wedding like that, some weddings I barely have any room to put up lights and most weddings have a small dance area. if you just started out and weddings that's pretty much all you going to really be dealing with anyhow as I grow and my customer base grow I may be looking into by one of those expensive $1,000 lights but for now those little $60 lights does the trick and they pretty bright.. but anyhow that's just my opinion..

    Love the channel but....Gear does not equal Camera. Gear is very importante. Having a quality and reliable way to capture sound is EXTREMELY important. Having ND Filters for your lenses is EXTREMELY important. Can you live without them? Sure but don't expect a gold star at th eend of the day. What about you? Forget the camera what are those super important pieces of gear you love? Thanks and keep it up.
