    Awesome video with great tips! Question: what’s the best way to match footage w the R6 and c100?

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! Great question, it’s mostly trial and error but I’ve found it’s easier to match the R6 when using c-log or c-log 3. If you shoot in standard or neutral you may have a tough time removing contrast or that “digital look” the R6 leans more towards magenta/reds and c100 leans more towards green. So just finding the balance there takes some trial and error. Also when filming you wanna try your best to match white balance and exposure in cam. Hope that helps!

    Like many others, I’m new to wedding videos and your tips were super helpful. Any advice on positioning for the ceremony if you only have 1 camera (to be able to capture bride and grooms faces, and not the back of 1 head)?

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much I’m so glad they helped! Work with the photographer and don’t be afraid to bounce around. Film in 60 FPS, make sure your shutter is double your frame rate (1/120), capture 3-4 seconds of the bride entering, rotate quickly to capture 3-4 seconds of the groom, reposition to the center after the bride and dad make their way up. For vows, I make sure to focus on the person speaking. Also a zoom lens will be your best friend here

    What are those two lenses I need on a Canon for a wedding?

  • @James-qo7uz
    @James-qo7uz ปีที่แล้ว

    One of the things I worry about shooting by myself is needing to set up for one part like the ceremony but also need to go to a different location to video the bride and groom, or family pictures, or prep, or needing to setup for the reception but pictures going on. Do you setup cameras for the ceremony and leave them up unattended to go off and do other video shoots? I’m worried if the bride runs late, and I go off an take some videos, I wont have time to setup for the ceremony. And I don’t want to setup my camera angles and walk away either.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally valid fears! This is where it is good to be on the same page with the planner so they know your needs for video. Another good rule of thumb is to always focus on the moments first and setup later. Or if you have time to get to the venue early, have your tripods and lights ready to go so when you get to that part of the day everything is ready. But the moments always come first.

    Heya i'm planning to invest some gear for my own projects, mostly wedding / any related events. I'm just wondering would it be better to have fixed lenses or should I invest in Lenses like Tamron 28-75mm/17-70mm? I mean I have some friends who recommended these two tamron, its pretty much like a must have for every wedding events they said. but of course the visual won't be as great as fixed lesnes. What's your personal opinion in terms of investing lenses?

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lenses are critical to developing your wedding film style. So choosing the right ones can be a complicated process but a good rule of thumb is fixed lenses/primes will get you a more shallow depth of field which has a tendency to look better/more cinematic.
      Zoom lenses are useful tools that help you cover more ground on a wedding day, versatile, the downside is you lose some depth in your image but it’s really all about your composition and how you frame your images that can make it or break it.
      Personally I love both for a variety of reasons. I also have both because I’ve just accumulated gear over the years. For now I would recommend something like the 28-75 as long as it is at-least 2.8. The 24-70 Sigma is my go to

    Having to watch this twice, or more, as the lyrics in the backing tracks keep distracting me. As I'm working a friends wedding as a solo shooter (my other half is going to be an assistant on the day and if she feels comfortable and I give her a crash course for the camera, she might be a 2nd for the ceremony), all the information I can get is worth getting.

    This is just what I needed! I loved everything about this video and will be rewatching a few times to get ready for my first ever wedding this April! I am brand new to cinematography and have never shot a wedding and also flying solo. A family member works for the vendor, and the photographer is a friend. So win win! I love shooting minimally. I usually use 35mm or 50mm prime lens. Would you recommend having a zoom lens? I would love to see an essential gear list if you'd share that. I know you mentioned 2 of everything. Like I said, I am just starting. I'm also wondering if I could get away using my Samsung S20 plus for 2nd camera on tripod? So many questions! Following and subscribed!

  • @kthx1138
    @kthx1138 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You're so right on the static camera + a floating camera! This takes the pressure off one camera having to capture it all and provides all the coverage needed for the edit. The static camera captures a 3-shot of bride, groom and officiant during the ceremony, with the free-floating camera capturing reactions and over-the-shoulders of the bride and groom during the vows. 2 camera coverage is great during toast speeches as well.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would film in 4K on the Canon R6. 24 fps or 60 fps. I prefer 60 but you will need to make sure your shutter is double your frame rate at 1/120. And just because of long recording times in this mode as it is prone to overheating. 4K at 24 FPS would probably be a safe route with this camera but if you wanted slow mo capability I would recommend 60
