Berklee* I live around the school. Half of the kids I see hanging out outside already looking like they have no potential careers. Berklee is heavy on the jazz though, honestly. There's a separate school connected to Berklee called Boston Conservatory that's more focused on classical.

I know the joke was made to make fun of prog timing but the bottom note has to be a number that could come from 2^x power, x has to be a whole number that is 0 or greater 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128....etc, because of how the bottom note defines the type of note that counts for one beat. I.e. 6/8 time is 6 eighth note beats in a measure, and before I get the question, no I didn't go to Berkeley for a music education
@@reecerice3033 lol, its pretty simple if you think about it, you're just dividing the slower note in half, so you go from 4 quarter notes to 8 eighth notes because the count is 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and, where the ands are the eighth notes then 1 e and uh 2 e and uh 3 e and uh 4 e and uh, where the e and uh's are the 16th notes (technically all the beats would be 16th notes, it's just those that are added on top of the eighth and quarter notes. Same applies to the previous example with eighth notes). Think about trying to break down a 78th note, that wouldn't work because it doesn't fall in an even spot between notes, I can break down the bigger numbers if you would like, just there isn't common sounds for counting above sixteenth notes. Edit: This is all relative to 4/4 time, if you were to change the time signature, you would have a different amount of beats, and/or a different base to start counting by, if you would like an example I can provide one
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the complexity of Tool. The musicality is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the licks will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Maynard's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these lyrics, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Tool truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Maynard's existencial catchphrase "We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Tool's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Tool tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
