Love hearing your take on these Amouages Ben. I dont own any of the dior homme series because to me this is the top iris / make up fragrence for me (as i dont like iris / make up fragrences normally) what i love about imitation is that citron blast in the opening and vinyl dry down is so 70s and 80s. And yes Ben this is an 8 hour fragrence for sure. Btw i find it unisex too and it is also a fragrence that i dont think sold to well. So if you are wearing this... you are unique and wearing something unless you run into a real fragrence head no one else around you will be wearing. I also reserved the new amouage Boundless or whatever it is called. They are shipping end of april and i cant wait to get my nose on that bad boy!! -Ramsey
Ramsey! The notes in Boundless look amazing! Let us know what you think of it. Thanks for updating the longevity, I wondered about that. Yeah, as I mentioned, pretty lukewarm on iris/make-up generally.....It's interesting how notes come and go in the fragrance community....oud, then iris, then tuberose. I love the artistic nature of this house...even if it didn't sell well, I know Chong feels like it needed to have its own release. Have a great week-end!
I blind bought a full bottle of this back in August. It instantly reminded me on my grandparents house in Long Island, NY in the early 80's. I loved it, especially for the nostalgic reasons. My wife absolutely hated it. She thinks it's masculine but smells like gasoline. With that being said, she dislikes 90% of my collection. I ended up returning the bottle considering the versatility. 2 months later I purchased a 10ml decant because I could not get it out of my mind. There is just something about it that I absolutely love. I ended up buying another full bottle. My decant and my full bottle project and perform great! At least 4 hours of projection and lasts all day on skin. One of he strongest projectors in my collection. Imitation Man truly takes multiple wearings over time to really understand and appreciate it. To me it now comes off very fresh and versatile. The leather base is amazing. The whiffs I get throughout the day is where this stuff shines. I wear this anywhere anytime. Not sure everyone around me would agree, but I just don't care. My wife still hates it. I have and love Dior Homme Parfum. I also agree that there is really no similarities to Imitation Man other than they both contain leather and rose. The scent itself is totally different. Thanks for you take on Imitation Man! Oh, I also think it leans a little feminine. Reminds me of old school women's perfumes, but it still leans more masculine overall. 10/10 for me and my favorite from Amouage. I own Jubilation, Reflection, Journey, Memoir, Portrayal and Interlude Black Iris. TH-camr JayRoyal mentioned that Imitation Man was a grown up Reflection Man. I kind of agree with that statement. Thanks again. Great review! I also enjoyed your review on Portrayal.
Hi Jonnie! Thanks for your kind words and comment! First, that is so cool that you bought it, returned it, got a 10ml, and then bought a full bottle again. This is a fragrance that is really going to work (or not) for people. I love that you wear it anytime, anywhere...really pays homage to this fragrance. It certainly is bold and without a care in the world. You mentioned that your wife didn't like 90% of your collection....what is one that she does like? I would be curious to know. It's so great to hear from someone who loves this fragrance so much...it has so much character and personality! Jubilation XXV will always be my favorite from this house, though the new Boundless sounds really great. Two from the Library Collection I love as well. Have a great week-end and thanks again for chiming in!
@@ThatCologneGuy yes Boundless does sound interesting. My wife likes more of my designer collection. Sauvage, YSL L’Homme, Bad Boy EDT and her new favorite is Le Male Le Parfum. I’m really into fougere’s, Beau De Jour from the signature line being my favorite. She really doesn’t like those “old man vibe scents” Haha.
:) Yeah, I bet she doesn't like the fougeres, then. ha ha. I always feel bad about saying "grandpa/grandma scent." I'll check out Beau De Jour tonight. Thanks!
Hey my Friend. Hope all is well. I just received this in the mail and it is definitely a good one. It has that years past feel though in the dry down. Good times, flannels and afro type of feel. Very lovely soft and artistic in a good way. Good to see you again my friend and hope all is well
Another great review Ben. I am 50:50 on Imitation Woman because there's this blackcurrant note that didn't sit quite well with me and longevity on my skin was quite poor. I will have to test Imitation Man now because of your review. Sounds interesting. 😊
Thanks, Ee-Lin! It is interesting and certainly unforgettable. Sorry to hear Imitation Woman didn't sit well with you! I am on a waiting list for the Mugler fragrance you mentioned before. Thanks again and have a great week!
It's funny that I was going to blind buy this fragrance today but decided to go with atelier des ors... I forgot how to spell the rest of the name. Yeah I don't think that I will be getting this. It don't sound like my wheel house at all. Thanks for the review. Keep up the good work
Hi LuTia! At first I thought you were referring to Atelier, but I see there is a Atelier Des Ors house....let me know which one later. I hope you like it! This is one is definitely a love or hate and so, not blind-buy friendly at all. You are more than welcome, thanks for your motivational words and Have a great week-end!
I thought it was by the same house but just from a different collection. It's a bottle with gold flakes in it. It's by the same perfumer who made by the fire place. When it comes in hopefully Monday I will be sure to let you know the full name and my thoughts on it. But boy I am glad that I didn't blind by imitation man though. The thing about it though is that my check came a day late so that gave me time to reconsider. If it wasn't for that I would have bought it. Things happen for a reason! Be blessed 🙌.
There's a brand new full presentation bottle of this on one of the websites i shop at, for $135 shipped. I wonder if i should go for this? Im not one for make up iris chypres but im all for buying frags that are very unique and that not a lot of other fragcom people have (let alone avg joe buyers) ... i am enthralled by the pinkish bottle and it would blend well w my current amouage bottles. I really want to get enclave and myths but im waiting on a better price for enclave, and myths is impossible to find now on discounters.
Tough call, isn't it? this one is certainly unique. I admit Amouage bottles alone make me want to buy them, especially Fate Man. I don't know what your budget is, but my vote would be to take a pass on it, at the very least sample it first, if possible.
@@ThatCologneGuy yeah but I'm not into getting samples in a way that they're sprayed into decants. I like samples straight from the manufacturer. I feel the sprayed decanted perfume is a bit altered. Especially in the top notes as you lose a lot of it since you can smell it while spray decanting
@@ThatCologneGuy I have never gotten any requests but have gotten some recommendations.. if it sounds interesting I'll buy a bottle & I've bought a few decants of stuff as well
Hello my friend. Well my atelier des ors bois sikar finally arrived today. Well it is definitely an acquired taste. It smells like BBQ. Like you have been standing next to a BBQ pit all day. It smells like you work at a BBQ place. That smell that you have when you just get off of work from a restaurant and the smell of food is still in your clothes. Oh well
Hi LuTia! I am looking this fragrance up right now...precious woods, guaiac wood, and cedar? Then vetiver? wow....sounds like smoke and wood. I bet it does smell like a BBQ pit. I am glad you like it! I see one person noted that 'Sikar' in Mayan is 'Smoking' and I know Bois means wood in French, so there you go! This one sounds like a beast!
I just don't understand why they would make a fragrance that smells like that. It's not bad but it's the smell of BBQ. Crazy thing is I like it but it was definitely not what I had in mind. On to the next blind buy ha ha!
Looks like the styrax is what gives it the smokey quality. I ran a search by notes in Fragrantica out of curiosity and there are few that have this combo of cedar, styrax, vetiver, and guaiac wood. Certainly original!
