    That wool coat is the absolute MVP. I have one but it's way too heavy since I live in Florida lol. Lightweight jackets are the best choice 99% of the time here for Winter in FL.

      @@hespokestyle I prefer the longer form videos, personally. The commentary is much appreciated, and I find that the longer videos also allow more ‘breathing room’ between outfits. I have refined my basic uniform, although it's not as restrictive as Mr. Jobs. I will wear dark blue trousers, usually denim, but could also be chinos, corduroy, or whatever. Match that with a simple button-down shirt, usually in the blue/white/grey ranges, often with a basic pattern. Brown shoes or boots as the footwear, with a coordinating belt. Worn over this is a brown jacket of whatever stye strikes my fancy that day. This is all topped off with a brown hat, anything from a simple ball cap all the way to a wide brimmed western hat.
    While I do vary on the colors at times, this is how I direct most of my purchases. This way, everything coordinates with everything else.

    Hey Brian, long-time viewer here! I've noticed many people complaining about the sponsored content lately. It's a shame that, when you ask people to elaborate, most of them can't put their finger on why that is. Some say that the content doesn't feel genuine to them, which, to me, seems more like an impression that people carry over from other sponsored channels. However, I do feel that there's a conversation to be had here. That's why I'd like to offer some constructive criticism.
    Let me preface this by saying that I don't mind your sponsored content. Brand choice, editing, and presentation are top-notch, as always. When challenged on this kind of content, you stress that you don't ever present something you wouldn't wear - or recommend to wear - yourself. I believe that - for the most part. 😉
    See, when you first featured the Jacket Maker's products, many of them sported polyester lining. (They have mostly upgraded to viscose now, to be fair.) In a wardrobe sale, I saw you selling most of these jackets some months later.
    Now, no-one needs five different leather jackets. And I don't feel that you bought them for yourself, but for your viewers, who might like styles that you don't keep. Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with promoting an entry-level product, let me be clear. Quite the contrary.
    And yet, you are known as the one man on youtube who does not make compromises. The HSS brand represents to me: perfect fit, high-end fabrics, and a clear sense of etiquette (and how to break it). A clear sense of personal style. There's joy in experimenting, yes. But hauling items, as it is required for any sponsored lookbook, items that one doesn't intend to keep for years to come? That is not part of the HSS DNA to me. This is why the Jacket Maker felt very different to Pini Parma, in comparison.
    Poly lining in a leather jacket felt like a compromise that the Brian I got to know would just not make. As small a critique this may be, it left a curious taste.
    But more importantly, what drew me towards your channel several years ago - and increasingly away from others - has always been the variety of your lookbooks. It was completely normal to see a Luca Feloni Cashmere Turtle paired with Michael Andrews Bespoke Pants, refined by a Suitsupply blazer, rooted in Common Projects. You would mention where you got it all from, and I would walk away with several bookmarks. (Never forgot that Billy Reid suede jacket, dream piece!)
    I do see the benefits of sponsored content, for you as well as for your viewers. But I feel that it has come at the cost of one thing. Variety.
    This is the second, maybe third feature of L'estrange London? Nothing against the brand - they fit your mastery of business casual. But when I see them popping up as a sponsor, I know what to expect. There's a certain weariness in that. It's the same weariness that blended many other youtubers into the same mash of represented brands.
    I can see you are actively avoiding this. You obviously don't just accept any brand offer. And coming back to brands you've worked with before can also be seen as a testiment to their quality. So take all of this with a grain of salt. It's not that big of a deal.
    I just want to remind you of what your audience values in your content: It's your sharp eye for quality, your uncompromising taste, and most of all, your autonomy. Please keep that near and dear to your heart.

    What are you thoughts living in south central Texas - where 9 months of the year the average temp is above 80, and 6 months per year its above 90 consistently. I love all the looks, but it is incredibly rare that I would ever wear any type of coat or vest, unless required by a suit for a more formal meeting. The most layers I ever wear on top is 2 max. Could you do a video regarding this challenge of not needing coats / jackets? Thank you in advance for your reply - love the channel.

    White trainers in winter? Okay if you don’t step outside. Puddles, mud, road slush, ice - good luck. Waterproof boots, thermal lining, with military sole for good grip, would be more practical.

  • @MrFinny95
    @MrFinny95 2 ปีที่แล้ว +73

    These "winter fashion" videos always make me chuckle. White sneakers as the only footwear for winter? This doesn't apply to anybody who lives where there's an actual winter. You need insulated waterproof boots.

    • @hespokestyle
      @hespokestyle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      As someone who lives in a place where there is an actual winter, I think white sneakers are fine. Would I wear these in the snow and slush? Absolutely not. I'm not saying these are the only clothes you should have for the winter, but if you wanted to design a lean wardrobe with a minimalist vibe for the days when there isn't snow and slush on the ground, I hope this could be a source of some inspiration.

    • @joewhite7463

    • @hespokestyle
      @hespokestyle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can add it up, if you want. But what I will say is that when you invest in quality, you significantly reduce your cost per wear. And when you design a minimal wardrobe, that makes your money go even further.

    I like this style and your crack at the difficult take of using only 9 items! My only criticism is that you used sneakers in Winter! It’s fine if your winter is mild but not if you have to face conditions of snow and ice. This is where a capsule wardrobe falls apart as I’m guessing that Steve Jobs didn’t walk to work or use a push bike!!😂
    Also one of the looks created you used very light trousers and a very dark midnight top and as a man not considered “tall” I would feel uncomfortable visually cutting myself in half in this way.
