    The 35 model Beechcraft Bonanzas are known for their iconic V-tail design, that also drew a lot of controversy as accidents earned it the nickname of "doctor killer" mid-century. Today the airplane is considered a comfortable airplane for both personal and business travel, with cruise speeds of 170 knots or greater. Typically built with the Continental IO-520 engine, this airplane has been upgraded to the IO-550 for 300 total horsepower. Also showing off upgraded avionics, brand new interior and paint, this Bonanza is a pleasure to fly.

    I have a good friend that went down in a Bonanza. He was with his dad and mom. They were in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans when they lost oil pressure and made an emergency landing in between the median of I-12. The wing clipped a truck at the last minute and spun to a stop. They all survived and were very lucky. His father does not fly anymore as the plane was a total loss. He also had a bonanza but decided to sell it and get a piper cub. Something much safer. Apparently the oil filter safety wire broke and that’s what caused it to loose oil pressure.

    • @johnmajane3731
      @johnmajane3731 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So nothing to do with the plane. That they hit a truck and walked tells you something about how strong the Bonanza is.

    Just a point of information, the V35B went to a 28V electrics in late 1978. With that you got a highspeed four second gear. But the 1973 in this video looked to have a pretty quick gear, maybe a bit of fast motion photography. Nice bird. Actually the io-550 has more than 15 extra hp. A 550 is rated at 300 hp +5% to a -0%, whereas the 520 is rated at 285 +2.5%, -2.5% so the factory says the difference could be as much as 37 hp.

    • @LimaFoxtrot

      I have an S35 and my gear is pretty damn fast.

    • @larryweitzman5163
      @larryweitzman5163 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LimaFoxtrot Time your gear with a stop watch. It should be 8-9 seconds. I have had two 28V systems one in a 79 V tail and the other in a 1977 B58TC (It had a 28V system as well). Both were 4 second gears. My current 75 V-tail has a slower 8-9 second gear. One of the reasons for Beech switching to a 28V system is a small weight saving. And my 1977 T210 had a really slow gear, probably 15 seconds going up.

    • @LimaFoxtrot
      @LimaFoxtrot 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@larryweitzman5163I don’t consider 8 seconds slow. I can’t imagine a situation where I need it down 4 seconds faster. Especially if you’re flying ahead of the aircraft and have your flow down.

    • @larryweitzman5163
      @larryweitzman5163 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LimaFoxtrot I didn't say it was slow, but slower than the 28V system. I drive a 1975 with the slower gear. I didn't say it was unsafe. Among WWII fighter gears (P-51, P-47, P-40, F4U, F6F and the slowest gear of all, the F4F, which was raised and lowered by 29 nine turns of a hand crank, it was only human powered) the 14V Bonanza is lightning quick. But with the 28V Bonanza/Baron gear, its amazing to listen to it work. But in an emergency, that 4 second gear could make a difference.

    Went solo in 3hrs?? I'm pretty sure when I was doing my PPL (in a PA38), it took longer than 3hrs to teach proper takeoff technique, climbing and descending, level and steep, climbing and descending turns, stalls and recovery, spins etc, let alone a few circuits in traffic with ATC...
    Solo in 8.5hrs was pretty smooth in the early 90s, and that was only the bare minimums.

      Well that was solo in three hours formal instruction, after 1200 hours as an observer in seat during power line inspections for the SEC (State Electricity Commission). The observers sit next to a. Commercial pilot as they fly along power lines, and mark down on a map where vegetation needs trimming etc. He would have had a lot of stick time on the sly during those two years or so.

    If you have the letters MD after your name or Dr. before your name, outside the hospital setting I disregard everything you have to say as well as your opinions. Doctors never leave their egos checked at the hospital and it carries over in many areas of life including aviation where they end up in a pine box, and rightfully so. Let the doctors doctor and let the pilots pilot. I don’t tell you how to perform surgery so don’t tell me how to fly!!!!
