- Yuri Bashmet playing Bela Bartok's Viola Concerto, with the Moscow Radio SO under Vladimir Fedoseyev, live in 1985. The concert was played in memory of Vadim Borisovsky.
Юрий Башмет - Барток - Владимир Федосеев
There was a time in the 80s and early 90s when Yuri Bashmet was unmatched among solo violists, and this recording shows that, extraordinary performance. And yes, although the work is 'realised' by Serly, it is still Bartok's final swansong and deserves to be heard even if he did not complete it.
Чудесно. Прекрасное исполнение!
As a professional concert violist, to me, this is THE finest interpretation of this work. I have listened and studied others. However, I find this version convincing and excitingly alive! TRUE VIRTUOSIC PERFORMANCE! It didn't put me to sleep and I agreed with the audience - I wanted more.
Viola Bear 🐻 I think exactly the same! He is simply the best violist in the world
L
Yuri's playing often make me chill and feel anxiety. Maybe this is why the piece and his style perfectly matches here 👍
100% agreed! What a great interpretation and performance!
There was a similarly good(exciting and thrilling) performance live by him and Collin Davis and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra also in early '80s which i heard on radio; have it recorded on a cassette tape and still keep it today...Microphone is not so near to the viola as this and has more of the hall tone, and accompaniment has more resonance (Great Hercules Saal!). As is always with Sir Collin, there is a touch of grace added...pity that it could be seen/heard nowhere...
(lucky me , hehehe)
Even bashmet can’t play this intune.
haven't listened to bartok since i was a teenager. this is wonderful.
I😍 Love❤️ Viola🎻
Bravo!!!! Bravo!!!! Viva,la Cultura!!!
Muchas gracias a todos!!
HOLY MOLY I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOREVER THANK YOU
This is the standard completion by Tibor Serly who orchestrated Bartok's 13 pages of continuous short score draft which contains few but significant indications of the intended orchestration.
great!! is hard find bashmet playing bartok in youtube(sorry my english) I wish someday someone upload walton played by bashmet
Listen to 1994 recording of Walton concerto by Yuri Bashmet - the best
In youtube?
Willie Martinez find some torrents for example rutracker
same channel uploded it last April: th-cam.com/video/ccQF31vO7y8/w-d-xo.html
Yes the Walton video is uploaded now.
Sritcly speaking, this concerto caanot be concidered as a work by Bela Bartok. He died leaving only sketches, which were ordred and completed by his puul Serly. Anyhaw, it is a very beautiful work.
Gérard Begni But I think that the viola part was entirelly written by Bartók. The orchestration, however, was not written by him
Actually no. The viola part was also not completed. Some pieces were even written in f-clef, so they tried a version for cello too. It was really little what Bartok gave to the afterworld
absolutely Bartok, and 🔥 Bashmet , making the Serly version work
I. Moderato 00:03
II. Lento parlando breve ma intenso 13:11
III. Allegro vivace 17:11

Agreed!! Also, what are the chances that I should find a fellow BoIt TV fan in the comments section of a Bartok Viola Concerto performance?? 😂
Let's be honest, your here because of 17:09 to 17:22. Change my mind.
Sounds like his Intonation is good
Muy bien, muy bien.

What happened with the bashmet -walton I cannot find
I didn't realise someone had taken it down so quickly! It was a real treat!!! Luckily my friend saved it to his computer so we might be able to upload it again :)
Ce concert est véritablement un incunable , car on y voit Bashmet jouer avec un orchestre russe et sans partition , cet ingrat concerto de Bartok pour alto ; il n'y a guère que Tabéa Zimmermann pour l'égaler .

Le doy un like
Dumb camera angles!!
Tabea Zimmerman is better!

Ambos son maravillosos!! Tienen diferentes versiones y concepciones
It’s very good but it sounds so sad at the beginning 😢😭😭😭😢
SavageGxldYT -- True...Deep melancholia...suddenly leavened by exuberance. Cheers from Acapulco!
Браво 👏🏻
it sounds like they amplified him a little with those microphones
Erik K. Whitesides as most microphones are generally used for
Dynamic? wtf?
Oh my goodness
0:00-0:15
Very fast and nervous vibrato which bothers me greatly, otherwise , fine playing.
Phil Lowry I think it fits the character of the piece ironically enough
