HOW TO REBUILD A BARRA! Core Plugs, Dipstick Relocation and Ring Gaps

In today's episode of The Average Garage I start rebuilding the BARRA, Now that the block and rocker cover are painted, I run through how I am installing the core plugs, modifying the dipstick hole and measuring and gapping the piston compression rings.

Did you ever have any problems making the second ring tigher then the top normally the top ring is tighter then the second

Hey mate how do you remove the welsh plugs?

Screw driver and a hammer. Hit them on an edge and theyll kick sideways, then pull them out with pliers

Funny story, I have a BA block and dip stick and am in need of a BF rear sump dip stick.

Be is still front sump. Only fg is rear with rear dipstick

Not sure on brand sorry mate, I bought them from a local automotive paint supply so it's all custom colouring

I'm in the states, and the Barra is pretty much impossible to get. Is there a book on "Barra buying guide" and where can I get a plastic mock up engine...

I'm not aware of any plastic mock up. People here usually use a junker engine as they're readily available. For the state's I'm not sure what you could use sorry.
There's not a guide to buying but there is plenty of info about them. The common problems thought out all engines in oil pumps, timing chain guides and valve springs. Other than that the early B series had thin rods. :)
