This is just the video I was looking for! But why do pros stagger their hand position? And why do they do the exact same hand position when surfing backside and frontside - surely it should be opposite. Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated.
It’s easier to bring your leading foot through if the corresponding hand is a bit further down the board than the other hand - it doesn’t matter if you are going right or left
I’m 65 and spent the last year working on spine mobility, especially thoracic, so I can get my head and chest up off the board so I can get my front foot through. I’ve found if I think of my head on a string being pulled up and keep my eyes up my pop takes care of itself. I’ll touch base again when I’m 70 . 🤔🙄
Alot of videos would skip the popup. But, a good popup is the starting of a good ride.
So true!
Love the way the beat syncs with the feet landing... at the beginning! I've watched this more than once.
Waves reading and positionning is everything. Take off and pop up then is a child play.

I'm 66 and that right hand back helps to post exactly where your back foot hits first
If your lucky you’ll pick the wrong waves for 4 years then understand this
I love watching pro's pop up. For some reason they always want to leave that part out of surf films. Makes no sense.
I agree! I HATE that they leave it out. As a surfer I don't just want to see them on the wave, I want to see how they got onto it
Nice video, bro! 🔥
Thanks!
Thx it is probably the hardest part as u get older 😅
Yep agree
How old do you have to be? Maybe I have to quit now. 😂

Videazo
👍
I don't think you can do a staggered hand pop up if you're going to the back side surfing and not front side.
It’s fine, have a look at this thumbnail, you can see Sierra Kerr doing it Pro Pop Ups in Super Slo Mo

Staggered hands and foot on side of stringer. Correct me if I am wrong, does this happens automatically with experience surfing?
@waveki does it better 😐
I’d imagine so
