    I have a 2015 Silverado 2500 HD 2WD, an excellent machine, by the nature of my work I sometimes had problems because I need a 4x4 So I decided to look for a used one, and I bought it at a salvage auction with a bump I bought a Ram 2500 limited 6.4 hemi , when I heard the sound of the engine, I was scared, because it is a horrible noise, so I searched TH-cam and found hundreds of videos that affirm that it is normal, the point is that I changed the oil and used mobil 1 for European cars SEA 0 -W40 full synthetic. and that made that sound much better, it is still heard but not so horrible.

    After owning a 16 6.4, that squeak sound would drive me nuts. Mine would get worse when I was in reverse as well. Took it to the dealer and of course they said it was normal. The gas mileage was crap as well, but to be honest after a year or so I wasn’t even paying attention to it anymore. The truck would pull good and was super reliable so i got over it. I’m in a Cummins now and yes the mpgs are better but now I got dpf filters and regens to worry about. Had the truck in the shop twice now for a dpf sensor (2021 x5k miles) while my gas rig never threw a code much less went for service. Good looking truck by the way. I got the same set up but crew cab.

    • @liveyourfree
      @liveyourfree  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good to know. I can tell that I am paying attention to it less and less. Just a bad look for RAM to have perfectly working trucks sounding like that. I've heard that when diesels mess up they can be tough to deal with especially with all the emission stuff. I hope it gets better for you my friend

      The diesel is the only way to go . The most highly sought after trucks now are diesel 4x4 in great shape. Factories can't build them fast enough because of parts issues . I had my ram dealer purchase my 2018 Ram 2500 for as much as I paid for it brand new. I then ordered a 2022 Ram 2500 limited mega cab diesel for 86/k . The dealers out West can't get new diesels so the used trucks are in high demand. A gas truck resale gets hammered .

    Yes it is a thirsty beast. But like you said, know that going in. It does the job. Regarding the Ford Godzilla engine, it has had it problems as well, not to mention the 10 is not as smooth as Ram's 8 speed. Going up grades it seems to search for the right gear. I don't look for any of the automakers to invest in further V8 development. Seems electric is the future. But I don't see it as being ready for HD and towing usage.

    • @liveyourfree
      @liveyourfree  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't aware of the 7.3 having engine problems. Naturally all will have trucks that malfunction but wasn't aware it was a well know thing. I agree with what you say about electric being the way to go for the future. I was having that same conversation about a month ago with a guy about how long before they are able to develop the necessary range and charging infrastructure for towing trucks. As crazy as it may sound for some, I think diesel will start fading as electric continues to mature. I haven't figured out where I think gas engine will fall in that timeline. You have a good point with no further investment into the v8 engine. Thanks for adding value my friend

    This complaint list is ass
    Fuel economy and seat/ride
    Why did you get rid of the 1500 which a limited 1500 is same cab only difference is back seats recline some but if your not in passenger seat why would you be in rear?
    You got a HD truck fuel economy is ass but it’s purposefully towing 15-20k constant vs daily driver
    Chirping is a pushrod motor

      I don't necessarily disagree with you. I'm just concerned with the in between the up front part and the end. Depending on how it does maintenance wise during the life of the truck will really tell that story. I know when diesels go down, they can be much more expensive to get back up. I would of rather had the 7.3 Ford but I just couldn't get over the interior vs the rams. Ford just looks so cheap to me, I guess to me the fuel economy isn't bad, mine is a 2021 tradesman with the 6.4 hemi 4x4 and the 3.73 gears and I get about 11-12 mpg in the city and 18+ on the highway which isn't much worse than my last 1500. If I have a true 50/50 city highway tank I can get 14.5-15.5 mpg not towing. That seems pretty good to me especially for being a big heavy 2500, but I don't know maybe I'm wrong? Is the Ford and Chevy mpg better than the ram 2500s? I do drive conservatively though

    • @liveyourfree
      @liveyourfree  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't driven a 7.3 yet but have heard a lot of good things about them. On paper at least, I would have rather had the 7.3 as well. Like any truck, they have their issues too but the numbers (on paper) are all around better than the 6.4 hemi. I agree with you 100% that the interior was too much to turn away from. It is a heavy duty truck so gas mileage definitely shouldn't be expected to be great. I don't think the competing brands are that much better if at all. I have a heavier limited to add to the already heavy truck so I'm not doing myself any favors. It's not my daily driver so it's not something I can't avoid if need be. All that to say, I think your assessment is valid.

Slows and maintains your tow load safely and saves on your brakes. If you maintain your vehicles properly and don't beat the crap out of it the resale value with the diesel upcharge will pay you back.
