1994 Acura Legend Coupe Type II 6 Speed

  • In my opinion, the Legend Coupe 6 speed is one of the finest cars Honda ever made. It’s one of the finest cars Japan ever made as far as I’m concerned.
    I wasn’t setting out to purchase this car. In fact, a friend of mine sent me the link to the Craigs List ad. I went to check it out, and I ended up buying it that day. I cover the story of that encounter in detail in the video.
    This isn’t a perfect car, but it’s pretty darn good. It’s also a very rare find. I’m privileged to have it.
    I have shot video of most of the work I’ve done up to this point. In particular the ‘paint restoration’ if you want to call it that. I’m not a body guy, but I feel the paint is way better than when I started. At least it feels presentable.
    For now, I’m just going to love and drive the car. It really is a nice ride, especially on long highway trips. You almost want to keep driving.
    Intro music by Eric Cook "ETCG1 Intro".

    Honda was at the top of their game during this time. They paid attention to every small detail, used high quality OEM suppliers and appealed to enthusiasts. Nowadays Honda (and Toyota & Nissan) are a shell of their former selves and are simply resting on their laurels. Very sad.

      ETCG1 yup I bought it from my brother for $4000 and he fully rebuilt the engine before he sold it to me! took me 2 years to pay it off but man am I happy with what I have. The only problem with the car is that the synchros are going out in the transmission and they need to be replaced. but that will be done later down the line.
      anyways you should probably check out the Acura Legend owners and enthusiasts page on Facebook, there is a lot of resources on there and people who can hook you up with hard to find parts

    I'm telling you, you should really focus on Honda vids. Produce a 15+ minute video about each model's development. Get your hands on a loaner of each interesting model (si, gsr, nsx, type r) and wring it out over at mid-Ohio. Check out Victory by Design for a great format you could bring back. Interview Honda engineers and racing personalities. Isn't the Honda plant close to you? You and Brian should go film it. Anyway, keep up the good work.

    Nothing screams 1990s like a motorized radio antenna. :-) Nice car though - Honda really did a great job in this era. By modern standards, of course, it’s not fast - but like you said, it’s acceptable even today. And back then, it was pretty darn powerful for the price. Acura was still trying to make a name for themselves back then - they definitely pushed the envelope a bit more than they do today. I’m really looking forward to your future videos with this car.

    • @LMacNeill
      @LMacNeill 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, yeah, no doubt -- power antennas were available in the '80s and even the '70s, I believe. But they got *really* popular in the '90s -- seemed like *every* car had them in the '90s. Then in the 2000s, they just disappeared. Gone, poof, bye-bye.

    Very nice car, Eric, great find. Amazing to see no rust whatsoever. The attention to detail back then was everything with the Jap cars. I once owned a 1985 Mitsubishi Galant - it was years ahead of most other cars on the UK roads. Inside it was extremely quiet and relaxing to drive - your average Ford, Opel, VW or even BMW felt like a noisy tank compared to it. Sadly standards must have slipped over the years, because many years later i bought a 1999 Galant - i was disappointed with how average it felt.

    • @YasumotoUS
      @YasumotoUS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, interesting that you bring up the mid-80s Galant. A friend's dad had a late 80s Galant wagon and that was a wonderful vehicle. It even felt better than my other friend's Camry sedan -- which was a very nice car in the late 80s. I'm in full agreement that 10+ years down the line, Mitsubishi had lost their way.

    This if from back when Honda made cars for the pleasure of driving them. The interior of modern Acura models is littered with buttons to make calls, text, social media, navigate, etc. A luxury car should be about serenity and calm; NOT putting stress and demands on the driver from electronic BS.

    • @YasumotoUS

      Preach it, texan! Remove the gosh darn distractions from the driver's line of sight for both safety and aesthetic reasons. When I'm driving, I want the best views of the road and surrounding landscape possible; not LED screens and other nonsense.

When cleaning it i found gunshot shells, 9mm bullets, like $50 dollars worth in change on the floor by the driver seat. 217k miles. The driver seat was a bit worn but not bad. The other seats were like new. Drove it to 270k milles and a friend totaled it. Real sad day. That car was a true Legend. I've had different, much newer, luxury cars since then and they have all had something wrong with them. You sir, got a sub. Hey Eric, i have a 95 Legend coupe i purchased from a salvage yard to fix up but its so badly twisted and bent that its beyond repair but is also a 6 speed stick with the shift knob still having the chrome finish on it, interior is like a 7-8 out of 10, can ship it to you if you would like with anything else, tan interior. Gonna be parting out what ever i can on ebay and amazon before sending it back to the crusher. Would love to donate any parts you need for it.

      @ETCG1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I'd be happy to take that shift knob off your hands. If the front seat is in good shape I'll consider that too. Lastly, the window problem is likely the window master switch. I'd take that if you don't need it. Lastly, does it have the original radio? Perhaps it might be best to send me an email. eric@ericthecarguy.com

      @ajhainstock3997 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      ETCG1 ill toss a battery into the car after work today, I'm off around 9pm CST to check if the window switch rolls up and down, make sure the seats work, and will check the radio for function as it is still stock with the CD changer in the trunk Looks older lady driven and was Tboned driver side so hoping that switch will work still. And i believe seats are not torn or really faded much. If i was closer I'd just haul the car down, but sadly I'm in SK Canada, anyways, ill check it all after work and send you an email.
      Till than, stay dirty.

    From what I remember, much like golf balls, dimples on vehicles have proven to make them more aerodynamic. Could ya just leave the hail damage alone and enjoy the better MPG?

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always wanted a car with the right bumps to help with MPG, but way to scary to do it on purpose! Mythbusters did a test on this, but they scaled the bumps up. It worked, but it was done with heavy clay (of course, it was a cruising gas mileage comparison and not including acceleration).
      Did they have to scale it up for it to work? I'll never know.

    HONDA YOU HAD THE ENGINE TURNED THE RIGHT WAY SO WHYYYYYY FWD, So many extra hoops you had to jump through to send the wheels to the front wheels instead of just running a drive shaft to the back like every other rwd car. If you meant to make it longitudinal awd like an audi OK, but you didn't. I learned to drive on a 91 btw

      I had a 95 legend GS for my first car, great car, never had problems, my friend got a 98 Mercedes S420 had more problems for sure, but the interior and ride was on another level. The legend wasn't close to as nice as that. Was a lot more reliable though. I'd go for an LS400 of that period over either though.

Interior was the same color and in perfect condition. Leather had almost zero wear. Always maintained by Acura, except oil changes. Loved the sound the engine made!
