I'm a big chunky guy myself, but I've discovered some things that work well for me. First is the right pair of denim. I wear the athletic cut from Levi's and I would highly recommend them to any big guy. They are going to give you a little room in the thigh, but then they taper down the calf and fit closer to the ankle near your shoes. This creates that slimming look we chase after, plus it defines your legs. I would stay away from straight cut jeans as they have the same amount of fabric at the calf as they do on the thigh. That will only make you look bigger.
Next I would highly recommend getting yourself a nice long sleeve button down shirt. I would suggest trying a size smaller than you think you should wear because we often fall into the trap of over-sizing ourselves. The fit should feel like a slight hug, not tight. If you look like a sausage about to come out of the casing, try the next size up. Also find the right length. You want any button down, or any shirt really, to hit you mid-crotch. Anything shorter and you look silly, but anything longer and you either need to tuck it in or you'll look dumpy and create the illusion of more weight.
Finally is where you can have some fun! Accessories gentleman!!! Grab yourself a nice pair of shoes; try a sweet pair of chukkas or try the Ruben chukka from Seven 91. It'll look a ton better than sneakers. Get a nice leather belt, and tie it together with a simple watch with a white face. Lastly, get your haircut and try a new style. I do a slight rise on my bangs and a light lift everywhere else. You'll look and feel better. And don't forget to stand tall guys. You're a badass, so get out there and strut your stuff!

Im 5'11 around 260 lb. I don't have a huge stomach but my issues are my pecks and my sides. Its very very difficult to find clothes that look good and fit. Any suggestions? I buy jeans but they are baggy.

Would also suggest the Levis 502 regular taper, especially the stretch denim ones. 541 athletics aren't highly available in the UK and these are the best alternatives imo.

I'm a big guy, 6'4" 370lbs. I've recently been shopping more at JC Penney. The Van Heusen Traveler Button Up in size 3x is a perfect fit. For pants, the Levis 541 Athletic Fit has been perfect. The taper keeps them pretty clean out of the bag. Absolutely spot on about the baggy jeans, have to get them taken in if the taper doesn't come in enough. Now that it's fall and almost winter, I want to get some nice sweaters and sports coats but not completely sure where to go.

I'm about 5'10" 275; I have had my bad moments with clothes, and then have really been trending in the right direction. I get a lot of compliments from both women, and from my slimer guy friends. Here's some of the places I shop, and I also would advise the bigger guys to get a good tailor or alterations shop. I buy my jeans, chinos, and shorts from Gap, I get the slim fit (I switched my pants from straight to slim, and I get compliments all the time; like this article, you have several types of fits, and even thou I'm in my mid 40's, the slim fit look great on me, and I have the pants tailored on the bottom to fit right, even if it's just an inch too big, it looks so much better when you get it hemed right (wear or bring a pair of your shoes when you get it altered) , which is a big thing guys tend to not do (once you figure your size, then wait for sales, they always got online sales). My shirts, I buy my button ups at Eddie Bauer, they fit well thru the shoulders, and the arm length fit perfect; gap the xxl fits right, but when I sit down, the buttons look like their about to explode (I may wear these button ups to events where I don't sit down), the xxxl is way too big, and looks terrible. My polos I get from Banana Republic (can get on sale for as low as $25), I get xxl tall, the tall because they tend to shrink, and for rounder bellys (the extra 1 to 2 inches will save you embarrassment), (my recommendations is to iron the polo's, and hang dry. I have also bought some clothes at H&M, I have had miss and hits with this, I bought a great sweater, but bought a different style and it was too tight. I also agree ironing all your clothes, look as neat as you can.

I second DXL. The cuts they offer are more flattering to bigger guys than normal clothes. I'll go to a regular store like Target and an XXL will be all out of proportion because it's cut for a fit guy with huge shoulders. A 1XL size however at DXL looks much better, and the button down shirts I get even look good untucked.

I'd recommend going straight leg, because skinny jeans just make you look worse when your thighs look huge and then it tapers down to the legs. Straight legs make your thigh - leg area straight and doesn't look bad.

Good info. I, as a big guy, agree with all of these. I used to fall for the idea that I had to wear big loose clothes to hide my weight, but realized I just looked fat and frumpy. Fitted clothes make any man look sharp even us big boys.

What do you mean by "big", as it's kind of a broad and relative term, because I'm 5ft 8in 240lbs and I can find all sorts of designer stuff to wear? I guess once your mid section width exceeds your shoulder width then you might start having issues. Either way...you might want to specify what you're actually referring to.

My problem is I'm a big football dude. So I have big legs and a big butt, but my waist doesn't match up so it's hard to have pants that match up. Also I have love handles but big shoulders and not a very big stomach and it's hard to get shirts that don't make my love handles stick out over everything else. If you have any tips for my body type it would be well appreciated. Also last note I have very wide hips so it doesn't help with the handles

Try waistcoats. They do the trick. I am similarly set and waistcoats use your athletic shoulders, hides the love handles and does help with hiding the "tucks" that shirts have on the wider hips.

Try searching for "Stretch" or "stretchy" Jeans in your online shopping. Jeans manufacturers have found that bigger men that do not want to look bulky in loose fit jeans tend to be uncomfortable in slim fit jeans. These jeans strain when you sit or get in and out of cars. Stretch Jeans give you comfort and style and to the naked eye, looks exactly like normal jeans

For a casual shirt ai would suggest Ralph Laurens Polo knit CUSTOM fit. You would need to go up a size but the length and sleeves are shorter. It's also tighter around the neck and sleeves to give off a buff look. I highly highly suggest athletic cut Levi jeans. For shorts, I recommend any brand that makes a 5-6 inch inseam khaki short. Some brands are Chubbies and Nautica. For shoes I'd go with a dark pair of leather Sperry boat style shoes. Pick out a nice leather belt that matches your shoe color. Also in my opinion never ever ever wear white socks with denim. Go with black or get the no show "vans" socks, which comes in alot of brands and cheap prices. I usually get my hair cut into a comb over fade. It's makes your face lool longer anf thinner. If you can grow a beard. DO IT. Keep it clean. It also makes your face lool longer and covers up the double chin.

  • @fritzschneider3276
    @fritzschneider3276 6 ปีที่แล้ว

The majority of clothing manufacturers simply don't design clothes for overweight guys. What they do is take the same pattern for a slim person and then enlarge that pattern. But, that's not the way that men gain weight. Having a large belly very seldom means you have a large butt, large thighs and especially not large calves and ankles! They do the same with shirts. Having an 18 inch neck doesn't mean you're 6'4" and need 38 inch sleeves. There are some nice exceptions to this however but you have to shop around and find a brand that works with your body and when it comes to dress shirts and blazers, have them altered! Most big guys already deal with esteem issues so go ahead and spend a few bucks on yourself to look nice and feel better!

Good places to shop for big guys? Your local tailor. Seriously.
I have an overweight guy in my family. I go shopping with him, so I know the struggle. Less choice and something is always off. Shoulders, length, sleeves, color, you name it. However, if you find a garment that fits the belly and the shoulders, getting the rest to fit 100% is actually quite cheap. We are talking ~10-20$ to perfectly fit trousers and they will look like a million bucks.

Loved the long polo shirt picture at 4:12. I'm trying to persuade my 48" waist husband not to wear 40!!! inchers pulled down below the belly. All he can envision is Hollywood's iconic fat man super high-waisted caricatures. He won't read articles; and I'm getting really frustrated as NO websites, and especially videos, will show pics of how bad this really looks; but nor will they show the right look without a suit jacket or shirt covering the waist of the pants. I've found only two websites that show one drawing of a short waisted fat man wearing hip huggers, not much help in my quest to convince my husband that pants that fit right look better. Also, I notice all videos are encouraging men to wear jackets--well of course they look great! But a great many work places simply cannot pull off a man in a jacket, my husband's included.

The thing that makes me cringe is dudes tucking and wearing pants below their bellies I'm 5'7" 300+ and one Taylor told me to puy my pants in the proper place then look in the mirror.

I never tuck in my shirt cause then it shows my gut. Like a muffin top. lol. Big guys look even fatter with their shirts tucked in.

Not if you're using shirt stays (as I do most times when tucking in). Muffin tops are never a thing then 👍

dude...not cool. This video should not start with "lose some weight." I think it's a huge turn off. It's kind of gross how so many fashion advice videos for big guys/ girls start with, "you should probably lose some weight, but...here's my advice if you can't." People didn't come here for health advice. They came her for fashion advice.

It didn't. It started with me saying, 'some people will say lose weight'. You've literally made something out of nothing lol
