  • I've tried to include everything for growing these types of orchids in the home including light levels, temperatures, watering and feeding, media, placement, blooming, handling buds/spikes etc. This video does include things said in other videos in this series, but I thought it may be useful to collect all their care into one place.
    As always, thanks for watching.
    You can contact me 'privately' via my channel email address which is : rogersorchidsplus@gmail.com

    I've now set up a new "Closed Group" on Facebook called "Roger's Orchids". If you watch my channel, you are welcome to apply for membership where you can post photos, ask questions and generally join in with orchid related things.

    Have you ever thought about writing a book? Finally I'm hearing care information that comes from logic and experience not just standard tips that could apply to any plant in the world

      As if I've got time. (I would love too write a book but from what I've heard, the 'writing' is the easy bit - all the trouble starts after it's finished.)

      Roger's Orchids you would listen to your videos and write down the contents. I guess after writing the book comes money 😂

      @@GrowingOrchidswithRoger The writing is indeed the easy part - the editing, printing, publishing, barcodes, marketing,.....is indeed a hassle and costs some money - but if you have a good book its worth it in the end. You should think about it, Roger - Thank you for the series, very interesting

    Great information Roger especially for a beginner like me who has lost a few Phals in the past and now trying to get 2 to grow with water culture! :) TFS

    A very comprehensive and informative talk today Roger. One I am very grateful for. Highlighted many areas on which I am falling short on reaching my plants needs. I can see now they are screaming out at me and I just didn’t recognise the signs before now. Again Thankyou!

    Hello Roger. I live in North Florida and have been keeping orchids for about7 years. I've followed your channel for a few of those years. I appreciate the good information and your friendly way of teaching. I have good luck with Phals here and also very good luck with Vanda's. This August some of my Oncidiums (sp) are spiking and one is in full bloom. I just want to say Thank You for all the education and help I've received from you.

    My bathroom is the coldest room in my home. When my Phals look droopy from too much heat in the home over winter, I place them in my bath tub with the window slightly ajar to raise the temp a bit colder( not much.) The next morning they are right as rain🙂...all smiling at me, ready for a bit of ☀️.

    How do you train your new flower spikes for various display patterns, Roger? Do you mark the pots at all to face the same direction towards light source? How do you handle a rootless (or poorly rooted) Phalenopsis? Have you had to deal with any viruses 🦠 or bugs? What is your TDS for their feed?

  • @jpalmer2373
    @jpalmer2373 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about the colour of the roots? My understanding is that they’re light in colour, e.g silver going onto white, that’s a sign that it’s time to water.

    With the drop in temperature when you draw curtains at night, do you think cool growers such as masdevallia would like it?

  • @fionagrace2111
    @fionagrace2111 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Roger, do you bring yours indoors during the coldest months? My greenhouse is kept at 12-13 degrees C minimum during winter and I wondered if I can keep them in there or should I bring them In? I guess it depends on the hybrid but I almost lost my sweet memory phal last year because it got too cold 😳

    • @GrowingOrchidswithRoger
      @GrowingOrchidswithRoger  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything stays where it is - those that don't like the cold have to 'lump it' - I just keep them a lot drier.

    What makes roots burn exactly? Only Too high Calcium part in the fertilizer? Or other part also? And other question : can i feed my novetly phals also until 200-400 ppm? Thanks Roger😊

    • @GrowingOrchidswithRoger
      @GrowingOrchidswithRoger  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be the feed level is just too high but more often it occurs when the feed is unused and builds up with each additional feed. I would say 200 - 300 ppm is high enough for Phals.
