  • Now that we've looked back at the Detroit Red Wings and their 2023/2024 season, it's time to look ahead at the job Steve Yzerman has ahead of him this summer.
    Tune in as we open by discussing some key priorities for Yzerman in Hockeytown, including the Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond extensions, making room for young players like Simon Edvinsson, Marco Kasper, Carter Mazur, Albert Johansson, Nate Danielson, or even Axel Sandin Pellikka, and managing the cap through contracts like Holl, Maatta, Petry, & others (4:25). Next, Patrick Kane's latest message and what it means for his time in Detroit (12:15).
    We're then joined by Max Bultman of The Athletic Detroit and Prashanth Iyer to discuss all things Red Wings: the past season, what the Seider and Raymond contracts may look like, free agent and trade options for Yzerman (Zegras? Marchessault? Markstrom? Gibson?), a review of the "Yzerplan", contract and cap management, how to get help for Larkin, DeBrincat, Raymond, and others, & lots more (14:45).
    Next, NHL news including the Utah (Mammoth? Yetis? Outlaws?) team name, a playoff update (Bobrovsky's freak save, Demko's injury) (1:20:00) & lots more before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:28:50) - enjoy!

      It would be a dream to see Danielson earn a spot on the team, love his game, but I feel like they would've tried to bring him up in G.R. if they were leaning that way, don't know how that works with AHL cap space and roster availability moves, but it seems they even wanted to give Larkin some AHL time before they allowed him to earn a spot as he played like 10 playoff games for the Griff's, but who knows, would like to see some updates on Danielson on this or other pods to see where He's at.

    one thing I keep on thinking about is the roll of a HOF and their impact on younger players, either as mentor or just by example, and how much more valuable Kane is/should be. I believe he had an impact on Raymond this year, I also think he'd be huge for any other young forwards, like you guys mention, Kasper, Danielson, Mazur, etc. If i am Yzerman, i am doing what i can to keep Kane.

    I may be too optimistic but for bringing up the forwards, I think you have to take in to account the "seasoning" they had in the ahl like edvinsson. Gonna push back on feeling safe going short term on Seider. I expect more offense and yzerman hinted at it aswell. He refered to Seiders usage and expectations currently vs the future, when the D corps improves. As Seider gets more help on the defensive side of things, not being so heavily realied on for all the hard minutes, defensive zone starts etc. He will get more offensive opportunities and will be allowed to focus/develop his offensive game.
    That being said i dont think we have to worry about exceeding 8 million per season. Im fairly confident ASP will be running PP1 for a long time once he gets to the NHL, this slots seider to pp2. So although seider is our number 1 dman, playing the big minutes, without pp1 and elite offensive numbers, he should theoretically come in cheaper than other number 1 dmen.

    Making the first pass, Detroit already has a better player then S Edvinsson and the GRG followers would agree on Albert J. All the signings have been great. There were probably almost 20 games were Detroit lost by one goal. Steve Y and Lalonde can't go out and play. But what if A Lyon played at the first of the year? What if the other teams didn't get all the lucky goals? What if the Wings did not give or pass the puck to the wrong team? I never say a club do this so much. Signing a top goalie would get them to 100 + points. If... you could keep Petry and Hall in the press box for depth and only use them when there are injuries. I know I know cap space. Moe S and Chariot are the best 2 players to handle the tough play. Have you played with or against Ben C? Would you want Petry as your D pair? It was an exciting season! There are no misses?? Hall is a + player the coach needs to use all players correctly. Not everyone wants to come to Detroit. Signings = who is available.

Yes he can skate but he is not strong enough on the puck or back check. He is not ready. Casper and Danielson have greater compete and upsides. Berggren could be ready if he grabs the opportunity.

    Another forgotten prospect is Soderblom . I think he’d play better with better players in the nhl than ahl. Provides us with a big body which we need and will be 23. Sooner or later we have to play these kids otherwise what’s the point of drafting them
    Yzerman made this happen by delaying some guys. Edvinsson johansson Berggren kasper Soderblom should start up and mazur is a recent 22 I believe so he’s a ? . Joe veleno will ask for 2-2.5 . Shop him, it’s quite evident he won’t be a part of the team much longer with all the kids coming up. Rasmussen will likely end up being a 4th liner , we can’t have another guy making 2.5 as 4c
    Mtl has a ton of dmen and he’s a local kid , ship him for a year of kovacevic at this point. He’s under 800 k and had a good season. Petry can also take a hike

    I like Prashanth, but there is absolutely nothing about Steve Yzerman's track record at all--or the team's history that indicates they would bring 5 rookies up next year. Just not going to happen. Danielson hasn't even played a single AHL game and he's not coming next year so let's just stop with that, Kasper was improved but not great in the AHL this year, Mazur is a 3rd or 4th line role player, Johannsen will be a 6-to-8 D player. What's the point of loading the team with youth, just to have youth, but they don't move the needle?

    • @user-rw9rs6di9n
      @user-rw9rs6di9n 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You bring prospects to see what you have got. Especially to fill role player spots and see if they can overperform. We have a bunch of guys that you need to see where they fit or you could lose them for nothing more of less (not a roster player due to too many mediocre vets and not part of a trade package because their development looks like it stalled). Johansson could make the same mistakes some of our vets did on D for less money. Thing is that he still has potential to learn from them and still show growth. Danielson almost made the team last year, but he had that deal where he couldn’t go to GR. It was either back to WHL or to the NHL. Was same deal with Rasmussen a few years ago. The situation, not the style of game. Danielson’s D zone game was advertised, but his offense is greater than he showed due to lack of elite offensive players to play with. He has size so could possibly make an easier transition.
