You did a great job! I had a Ross Gran Tour that I rebuilt as a “gravel” bike. I could only fit fairly skinny knobbies. Believe they were 30s but man I had so much fun on that bike! Sold it and of course regretted it, but someone is out there having fun on that bad boy. Love your build, I’d ride that thing all over the place! Makes me happy to see old bikes get new life. Bike industry is way too dang crazy. The new YT direct to consumer gravel bike “affordable” is over 4 thousand dollars. Absolutely ridiculous!
Wow...I just rebuilt one of these and have it up on eBay for a lucky winner😁. They were built in Allentown, PA as mountain bikes in the 80s and were considered high end machines at the time.
Wow you gave that old dog new life, I DIG it ! Looks killer and I love that you kept the orig. 3x7 Drive train and BB set...just fresh'nd em up ! Those tires are awesome too ! What kind of parts cleaner was that that you used on the rear derailleur looks cool !
lining up the tire label with the valve stem is a good idea, looks good and helpful when you're looking for a puncture. oh, and buy a proper headset press so you don't gooch the cups or the headtube when you're re-installing them.
super sick build of a really unique bike. do you have any opinions, good or bad, regarding the biopace crank rings? I have a Schwinn high plains from the same era with the same components including the oblong rings. I noticed you didn't change them and I was wondering if I should.
I don't think they are that bad. I have a 2019 Marin that I use for my regular mountain bike, and I have an oval ring on it, and I love it. In theory, they are more efficient.
Did you have any shifting issues between the front derailleur and its shifter? Usually Shimano mountain bike front derailleurs and road shifters are incompatible. Great video. I like how you were able to salvage many of the parts.
Hi Dennis, Those new shifters seem to work really well. In general, 7 speed drive trains are very robust and have a lot of leeway. They are the least fussy of all that I have experienced. The only issue I saw was the front derailleur was a little fussy when it wants to pull the chain into the smaller chain ring, but I took that up to mechanic error and not spending enough time tuning it. Haha!
Agreed. On one of my drop bar conversions I put a roadie FD on it so it would work better. I also updated to 9 speed cassette from it's original 6spd freewheel (got new wheels). MicroNEW 3x9 brifters are awesome for the price.
I've seen the MicroNew products... are those MicroShift knock offs? How are they? I would love to find some good but cheaper parts for doing restores with like this.
The shifters sure seem to function great. I would buy them again for a low-cost drop bar 3x7. I'm sure some higher priced sets may be smoother or quieter, but these do the job well.
Buddy just GAVE Ha me for 30 gave him 40 cuz met me at a wallys exact in blue exact condition. Hope its big enough tires were flat so couldn't test but Im 55 keeping it low key rides
Very tasteful build! You gave that bike the respect it deserves.
Thanks! That was my first attempt at recording my builds on TH-cam!

Nice transformation. I have one Ross--a three speed.

Woh, what a place to ride this beautiful bike eh! Just thrilling..
& yes the bike looks very good with the mods :-)
Very nice work. The look of this bike is awesome with those drop bars. Also, that's pretty cool to have trails right outside your back yard.
Very practical conversion, nice job. The Mountain + road decal is fun
Great job, you've done. best wishes from Germany
Nice build. good looking work.
Ich habe genau das gleiche. Habe es mit Schutzblech, anderen Bremsen und neuer Schaltung ausgestattet, fährt auch nach 34 Jahren noch

Thank you for your comments!! I wish I could tell you where to get the parts washer. I love it, but apparently, they don't sell it anymore.
@@DePuesshop darn...what is the brand ?

A nice headset press, a star nut install tool, and a fork race install tool is on my wish list! Thanks for watching!
That's awesome !
this is Awesome 🤩😍😍

Regarding your headset press on tool, is that threaded rod 1/2 inch or 5/8? Length? Thanks
I think it's a 5/8. The bigger the better. Keep the threads lubed.
Nice rebuild, nice video!I'm just curious about the type of the quick release wheels...(if they are qr)
Marcio, I got them on Amazon. They come with a theft proof tool. amzn.to/3GpiN24

I have them on three of my bikes. All work well. Hold up great... awesome bargain for the price point.
Enjoyed this my dad had one of these bikes when I was a kid, what tires did you use?
American Classic Krumbein 700x40C. They are nice tires at a good value.
before gravel we called this cross :)
Tops

It’s a Hybrid, not exactly what one would call unusual or rare.
The Shimano gs group didn't help either.
