    This should be a good one! Always love seeing XJs built nice and you certainly have a track record of doing jeeps right.
    Also, I can't tell you how many times recently I've needed one of those brake flush/bleed kits and not had one 😂

    Someone gave us an 89 Cherokee with various problems. Trey is sorting it all out and we hope to have it on the road soon. We have an extra air box lid we can send you if you want it. You can msg me on IG if you do. Enjoying the XJ series!

    Ah, love XJ builds, yea it's been left way too long ok.
    Honestly I would either keep the original axles/diffs and install maybe a rear ARB locker. I know the originals are not known for there strength but to get it up and running try to stay original, yes there may be certain items that may require modernization, but it will be cheaper.
    Once back on the road then decide do you go further or not. It's my opinion and I know others may disagree. Either way enjoy the build... Been there done that.😉 Looking forward to watching the progress.

    • @keithrushforth4019
      @keithrushforth4019 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you've misunderstood what he said. For the four wheel drive to work. both the axles have to have the same ratio. Having the front and the rear trying to drive at different speeds when 4wd is engaged would damage the transfer case or one of the axles..Installing a locker won't help and would probably make the situation even worse.

    • @Wolf4wdadventures.576
      @Wolf4wdadventures.576 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@keithrushforth4019 I was only talking about keeping the jeep original overall, obviously I'm very aware you can't have different ratios etc

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very cool , you found gold . Should be a fun little project low mileage too 🍻

  • @keithrushforth4019
    @keithrushforth4019 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The axle ratios being different probably explains how the transfer case extension got broken. If the transmission has suffered so much wind up that the the output shaft flexed enough to break the extension, then I would check carefully that nothing else is damaged. I would certainly strip and examine the diffs before deciding which axle to replace as they must have been severely stressed as well.

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes in theory what your saying could have been the cause , the back story on this jeep is that the rear end locked up and or the unjoint failed on the axle side and tossed the drive shaft around during motion. Hence the rear end and driveshaft was replaced. Not knowing what really happened it’s hard to say

  • @motownXJdad9565
    @motownXJdad9565 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    WJ axles are wider than XJs, and they have those funky Vari-loc diffs for the quadra drive transfercase. Youre better off with 97-99 front D30, and the rear 8.25 if you can get them cheap. the late96-2001 rear 8.25s are 29 spline and stronger than the earlier ones, and most auto trans XJs have 355:1 gears. that honey interior is super rare, and the coolest thing about 87 Jeeps is its the last year of AMC👍

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did end up finding a front axle with 3:55 gears low miles and a good deal didn’t even have to pull it off. It’s a Dana 30 HP cad axle but I will probably end up deleting that and running it for now until I get the axles I really want in it. I looked for the 8.25 D44s not much to pick from in my area and people are asking a lot. This one should do for now , at least I can get the jeep in 4x4 now and it goes along with the budget build theme. Thanks for watching 🍻
