Most of Kents misadventures were when he was quite new to the tour. Barnes...not so much.

Barnz is a Beast. I remember Chris Barnes bowling as an Amateur against Mark Roth ( 🙏) Marshall Holman, and Lisa Wagner on Television. I also Remember Chris Bowling in those Mega Tournaments as an Amateur.

    Honorable mentions for Barnes:
1999 Tournament of Champions - missed an 8 pin to lose by a mark in the title match
2000 PBA National - acted like a child and ruthlessly berated Dale Traber on national tv for no reason

I just re-watched that 2000 national championship and didn't notice Chris "ruthlessly berating" Dale. I heard him say "it's not over yet" and "still have to show up". What else did Chris do?

He has had a lot of great achievements but also a lot of really poor shots. Overall, with his talent, he underachieved. Still a hall of fame career w/o a doubt. To me he is similar to Marshall Holman who had some of the same issues and also underachieved his awesome talent. Of course Marshall is a nicer guy so I always felt bad for him - never for Barnes.

Barnes has always had a chip on his shoulder and a shitty attitude. I'm not sure how people look at him like a some bowling spokesman or ambassador to the sport.. Looks like it has rubbed off on his son as well just watch his mannerisms...

One on hand, there is no question that Chris has had spells of performing poorly on TV, on the other, the guy has still won 19 titles, so its really not fair to call him a "choker" by any sense.
The fact that he has two parts to that is a testament to the insane number of shows he has made. We just can't pretend he isn't one of the all time greats.

As 43 year old who grew up with Chris Barnes making nearly every show and being the top seed in almost every tournament, he's obviously overlooked as a goat in the sport due to his seemingly substandard results. The guy is obviously a generational talent and an all timer regardless of his TV record. The man led the field in practically every tournament he bowled in. That not only counts for something, it puts him securely in the GOAT conversation!
Edit: typical autocorrect spelling and punctuation errors.

Basically remove that Columbia 300 logo from a shirt and replace it with SPI and you would have had a totally different kind of result for his titles and and in terms of his carry. This is exactly why I dumped Columbia 300 equipment, because it never carried a 10-pin for me when it mattered - - and that's when I threw the shot well - - and was always exceptionally over/under. Columbia 300 today is still a seriously underachieving line in the B7 lineup of products today, so that by itself speaks volumes. Most of the really good stuff comes from hammer, radical, and then from brunswick.

How is the 2001 Long Island open not on this list. Arena final championship match from Mohegan sun. Barnes as #1 seed vs hometown favorite Tommy Delutz jr. Tommy leaves a pocket 7-10 first shot in tenth on a great shot. Barnes needed to fill 20 in 10th. Made two horrible shots through face first shot only leaving 10 pin. Then on fill gasses it leaving 2-4-5 to lose game. Always loved Tommy’s game, style. Plus was lucky enough to know him and call him a friend when I was bowling pba events. Classy, great guy.
