A very good list. I do have to correct you on one thing: the private detective that Daniel Craig plays in "Knives Out" is named Benoit Blanc, not Benedict Blanc
if they had ended Shutter Island with a comment about portland vs seattle and showed that the other detective had it wrong, it would have been so much better. (showing that it wasn't a delusion etc) I've always felt that the ending was too trite, but one comment could expose another layer.

The Zodiac killer was never found. There are a plethora of theories to who/whom the killer(s) are but no one was ever charged. The movie ended with an angle leaning to who police suspected at that time. For you who didnt like the ending that because the case is still open.
Since you did not mention Hollywood or not. I think we should add Tamil police procedural thriller called Ratsasan (Means Monster) depicting the hunt for serial killer. The most brilliant movie in this genre to come out of India in a very very long time.
Da Vinci Code: interesting for what it was, but no groundbreaking movie. Zodiac: really good movie, kept me tied to my sofa, even if the ending could be dissapointed it's worth watching. WInd River: Started watching with very little information and expectations, but turned out to be a really deep an awesome detective-revenge story. The setup it's very slow I have to admit. Prisoners: Really good one, the feeling of hopelessnes is real with a very satisfactory ending. Shutter Island: one of my favs of all time, the psychological aspects and the setting is unique, with that sweet plot twist at the end, wraps up a worthy watch. Even when you watch it again, you find stuff that was overlooked before, Memento: The same I said about Shutter Island but ten times, one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. The plot is dense, complex and hard to follow, but opens up to one of the most amazing: "Oh Sh&t!" moments in cinema. The other ones I haven't seen them yet.
Memento was not great at all if you remove the creative way it used to show the story in reverse and some symbolic presentation like colouring of photo when past and future meets and reverse editing because of the fact that the protagonist also doesn't know what happened before. If you just look at the story it is way too simple not worthy to give even 5 out of 10. He just write down the license plate number, finds whom does it belong and kills him.. That's all.
memento is great at reversed storytelling. beside that, it actually average movie. but for Nolan debut film, it's actually good for him doing different thing than other director.
Scorsese is overrated in my books, so the number 1 might be questionable. Here's ChatGPT's list: There have been numerous excellent detective movies released in the 21st century. Here's a list of some standout films known for their detective or investigative themes: Zodiac (2007): Directed by David Fincher, this film explores the real-life investigation into the Zodiac Killer in the late 1960s and 1970s. Mystic River (2003): Directed by Clint Eastwood, this crime mystery is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane and revolves around childhood friends involved in a murder investigation. Se7en (1995): Although released in the late 20th century, this David Fincher film is worth mentioning for its impact on the detective genre. It's a dark and intense thriller about a series of gruesome murders. Memories of Murder (2003): Directed by Bong Joon-ho, this South Korean film is based on the true story of the hunt for a serial killer in the 1980s. Gone Girl (2014): Another David Fincher entry, this film is a psychological thriller based on Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel, revolving around a husband and wife caught in a media frenzy following the wife's disappearance. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011): David Fincher directed this adaptation of Stieg Larsson's novel, featuring a journalist and a hacker investigating a wealthy family's dark secrets. Mysteries of Lisbon (2010): Directed by Raúl Ruiz, this epic Portuguese film is based on the novel by Camilo Castelo Branco, and it weaves a complex narrative involving mysteries, secrets, and intrigues. Prisoners (2013): Directed by Denis Villeneuve, this intense thriller follows the search for two missing girls and explores themes of morality and justice. Wind River (2017): Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan, this crime thriller revolves around a murder investigation on a Native American reservation. The Departed (2006): Directed by Martin Scorsese, this crime thriller involves undercover work and organized crime in Boston. These films vary in style, tone, and geographic setting but are all notable for their compelling detective or investigative narratives. Keep in mind that opinions on the "best" films can be subjective, and there are many other excellent detective movies from the 21st century worth exploring.
