He even said the Monarch's whole Marionette setup was brilliant. Least that is how i saw it.
imo he only looks like a bad villain because he is up against Brock Samson, the fact he has even survived this long is impressive. The Blue Morpho arc showed he is actually one of the most dangerous villains in the Guild.

I swear The Mighty Monarch is the shit. He takes nerdiness and makes it so cool. He is a one off Villain with such an honest insecure heart. Well, that's how I see it.
The Monarch is the best, but I love that scene with Red Death. The moment he puts his hands on the monarchs shoulder, its like "Listen boy" completely dominates the encounter. Amazing show, the writing and animation is seriously rivals any other T.V series, the amount of detail, I just rewatch them and always find new little touches I love.
He's a master of improvisational villainy, fell down a comical tube that dressed him as a boy ward and turned it into a horrifying freudian psychoanalysis.

The Monarch hates HIMSELF more than anyone else. when he sees Rusty, he is filled with hatred and wants nothing more than to kick his ass because he sees himself in his brother's face and it activates his self hatred. he is kicking his own ass by uising his brother as a proxy.

Fun fact the name Fitzcarraldo is from the movie whose theme is human conceit in the face of nature. The arrogance of man against nature is the opposite to the monarchs beliefs while also playing a huge role in his and his father's story. For the rest of this comment I'm going to be referring to the monarch as Malcom and Venturian as Don. Dons original story was that he was a boozed up socialite who fought crime by taking over the criminals organisation, a similar story to that of the green hornet whom he is based off. Already we have a Don challenging a much stronger foe than him, and becoming more arrogant in his actions. He proves successful as he's apparently good enough to challenge the likes of Scaramantula's organisation. It's during this moment he meets his downfall in jonas and because he felt so powerful he ended up agreeing to the orgy and thus began his life as Ventures Junkyard dog until a force of nature or man kills him and his wife. Don being made into a crime against nature by jonas and then by being brought back from the dead again by Dr Z. He is the embodied idea of man's hubris against the natural law. And then you have his son. Malcom on the other hand respects nature, particularly butterflies, so much he has a framed picture(?) of a butterfly he considers his mother on his desk. He lived among butterflies and based his entire villain persona on them as a tribute to the ones that basically saved his life. Malcoms also rejects the majority of authorities he's faced with beyond nature. This is most obvious when he takes up the mantle of the blue morpho rather than following guild protocol. As well as this he targets one of the most famous scientists in the world Rusty as his ultimate arch. Besides their past, Rusty as a scientist is constantly playing with the laws of nature more so than a lot of his peers (see Spanish fly mutant mantis hookers), making him the perfect arch for Malcom. This name alone adds so much layers to Malcoms character in my opinion.
