Ive built 2 tables off this format. Thanks for the guide. I got 30 more to go. BUilding them for my campground. These are built like a TANK! got to put them on furniture dollys just to move them in my shop LOL. Thanks again
They should certainly hold up at the camp ground then. How long is it taking to build them in production?
Awesome! Wish you could share a picture!
Does he rip the 2x8 and 2x6 to be thinner?
Do you use treated lumber?
How much does one cost roughly
Great guide, i want to make one with the tabletop side being a chunk of tree with all its natural patterns, this video is perfect. Ill just forego the long lengths for table top and the rest of the tutorial still works. Much love for this
GREAT JOB THANKS FOR ALL THE MESUREMENTS YOU SUPPLIED
I'm a guitarist and everyone says you are so lucky to follow your passion, and i use to think the same till one day i found out I wanted to make a chair or a wooden door, and now I know I wanna make a picnic table
Sounds like a great passion to follow!
Thank you so much for being so educational and transparent. I can't wait to build this for myt toddlers this coming spring. You are awesome God bless you more❤❤
Great video. Really enjoyed it. I've got 5 or 6 of these to build for our church. You made it look easy! I thought this was quite funny, "I thought this was supposed to be around 30 inches. That's what you get when you follow instructions from the internet." And I'm following YOUR instructions from the internet! HAHA
The dance 😂
I love it 😂
Great job brother !!!
Nice simple build. Thanks for the vid. I've got one in the works in my shop. I'm using non-pressure treated lumber because I am staining this one a dark pecan and the table top will be chared with a torch first then semi transparent stained to resemble a Texas Flag. I'm donating it to a local charity to auction off to raise money.
That sounds amazing! Best of luck with it my friend!
I made this yesterday and it was the easiest video to follow!!
Great job! I learned something today. Thanks for the tip on using the speed square as a spacer due to its dimensions to keep the spacing even. Found that very valuable and practical. Thanks again.
Awesome picnic table
Thank you so much!
I found a community garden that has rotting warping picnic tables.
Some planks on the table curve up like a smile and the bench on one side has bowed (asp like a smile- that broke) dead center.
For long lasting, would it need some sort of center brace on such a long bench?
My dream is to surprise the city with some new picnic tables or at least enjoy them as long as they keep it open.
I just moved here and was delighted to find a city garden not padlocked after hours.
It’s my secret delight to go pull weeds and till the empty raised garden beds. A little each day!!
My dad sells Live Edge hardwoods. Has 14 varieties.
For the tables I’m thinking post oak. Or black locust. Just for endurance.
I’ve meticulously screenshotted each step here with supplies and cuts and instructions captioning my pictures.
I’m a novice but you make this totally doable! I get it.
Hoping Dad will donate some wood for a good cause but this one time… those ‘live edges” will have to be made straight.
Can’t wait to start!
Looks like covid was the last time this place was used and I’m super excited to try my hand at a transformation!
I love it so much
Aloha From Hawaii
I have built 4 cause it's that good 🎉
Mahalo for sharing❤
THANK YOU !!!
Great Video. Explained Well.
Well Done. 👍👍👍👍👍
Also, 8 foot tables are awesome.
Great video great info well done thank you!
I really like it… I will make the mine using your video
Make the legs about 2 inches longer if you do. It was a little short for my liking.
@@HurricaneHomestead okay sir, the legs has to be 30 1/2 inches i Will go to Home Depot
@@HurricaneHomestead thank You
Love the porch.
Thanks so much! It's funny how often I find myself doing projects on the porch instead of inside the Mini Barn. Maybe I need to build a bigger shop to house the bigger projects.
Great video!!! Thank you…
Will be building the same!
It’s a great table design. I’m sure it will last for years to come!
grate job
LOVE it! 💗
time to build one?
It took me about an hour to put it all together.
Nice
Looked very heavy!!! But thanks for the clear directions…
Good video...I agree it's a small bit short. If I make longer legs how much longer can they be so I don't run out of lumber? Also, would I put the legs closer together at the top, so they don't stick out any further?
Good point about your legs. I also made a "removable support 4 x 4 resting post" under center for extra weight support from things on top the long table. (8 footers) Good Luck!
Great video! I’m trying to build a low profile picnic table for my kids .. have them sit on pillows. Something smaller so easy to transport. I’m wondering if I could apply your build with the same table top but without the benches. I’m only making it 4 feet long, so would screw on legs support it ?
Also I was looking at your description and you put 2 items as 2x6x8 but different quantities.. I was confused.. but I love the video. I might make one for adults after this project.
Hey great video. Looking at cranking one of these out in the coming weeks. In your materials list on your description did you mean to put 3- 2x4’s rather than 3 additional 2x6’s?
Check out,
This old house, " picnic table, " and
Jay Bates, " picnic table."
GOOD tips, and advice from both tables.
I took the cross braces underneath the table, from this old house and used them on Jay Bates table.
Table height, roughly 30 inches
Seat heght, roughly 17.5 to 18 inches
Table width, I like a wider table top, so about ,
Six 2X 6's, or five 2X 8's, or three 2 X 12's
Roughly 30 to 33 inches wide
Seats, 2X 6's, or 2X 12's
I suggest making the legs supports the way Jay makes them.
Good luck
What was that band playing in the video?
From your experience of building several tables - we are looking to build three heavy duty tables for "big guys" Our family has several big fellows all over 6 foot 5 and 330 pounds None of us can sit at a picnic table because we can't fit, and we would break the table! I know if we used larger lumber and built it sturdy, we could use it for bigger adults and not have to worry about our bellies being in the way or our weight crushing the legs. Do you have any ideas for me?? Please share your thoughts. Thank you !
so how do you seal it from rain and are you going to stain it at all?
Great vid! Did you use pressure treated?
I did not. Didn’t think it would be best to use a chemically treated lumber for something people would be eating off of. Also, the plan was to stain and seal the wood, but I ended up selling it before we got around to that.
@@HurricaneHomestead Great thought, but I think I'm going to use treated lumber for the legs and braces. Thanks for the vidio and plans.
MATERIALS PRICE LIST PLEASE!! Coworker wants 4 of these and I gotta know the guesstimated clst
It’s hard to guesstimate with lumber prices fluctuating so much, but I think it cost me $170 for all the lumber and hardware last year.
At 2:47 Did you rip down the 2x6 or 2x8 to be less wide? Or is that a 2x10 you made into 2x8? Im wondering if i can use this video wothout a table saw, only miter saw
Ha! That was my oops. I wasn’t paying attention to my cut list and cut both the upper leg braces out of the same 2x6x8 and didn’t have another one long enough for both the bench supports. If you cut one upper brace and one bench support from each 2x6 then you’ll have enough lumber without having to rip down a 2x8 like I did.
@HurricaneHomestead I just found you mentioned that after studying the video more. Thank you very much and expect the occasional question in the next few days or so lol 😆
Bench looks great! Why didn't you stain it?
I was planning on selling it and didn’t want to invest more into the table and wanted whoever got it to be able to make it their own.
Gotcha, makes sense! @@HurricaneHomestead
@Hurricane Homestead
I made picnic table but when the other person stands up it falls back with another person😂.where did we go wrong?
What was your measurement from end of table to your supports at 4:50
You're really testing my memory here now... I think I remember deciding on having a 14" overhang, or something around there.
@HurricaneHomestead haha no worries I just ended up guesstimating and it was around that too as long as it's centered it worked out great. Thank you for the video brother
That was my question. Thanks.
Do you have plans/material list for this picnic table project .. TKS
What angle did you cut for the feet? Thanks
That is a great question! If I remember correctly it was about 30 degrees. Yup. It’s 30 degrees. I’ve got a cut list at time stamp 3:38.
How many inches of 2x4s would you need
I have to admit… I never added up the inches.
So can you pass on the plans for the build?
I noticed that you didn't pay any attention to the crown of the wood. is that not necessary for tables?
You can totally pay attention to the crown of the wood. When I purchased my lumber, I ensured they were all about as straight as possible so there was not a lot of difference to start with. If there was one crowning a lot more than the others, I would have put the bow up and pulled it down flat with the others. But this is outside furniture we are talking about, not a $5000 boardroom conference table.
@@HurricaneHomestead I've never built furniture (inside or outside), but I have built a number of decks, and I know that if you don't pay attention to the crown, in a year or so it just won't look right (wavy and crooked). I suppose that because a table is so small, it might not really matter.
I followed these instructions to the letter and ended up with a table 26" off the ground and only 12" between the bench and table top. I sliced the whole thing up into 16" wood blocks to use for other purposes and swore I would never try to build anything again. There are way too many measurements missing from this video.
You list is wrong says 2x6 instead of 2x4s
You’re right! The list is wrong, but you’re wrong about how it’s wrong. It’s just missing the 2x4 angled braces.
Do you have a set of plans?
Why do you work in inches? Always thought its a strange way to do it but if someone could explain that be great
Because base 12 is a better way of counting.
