Because of Covid lockdown and time on my hands, I got into Tommy Collins. He was a genius in his song writing, and an incredibly heart felt performer. He is a man I wish I could have met.

Wrong Tommy. Tommy Duncan was the singer with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Tommy Collins wrote quite a few of Merle Haggard songs, and Merle sang a song about Tommy Collins called "Leonard".
This is Tommy Collins, one of the fathers of the Bakersfield Sound. He had some problems, but he came before Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. Haggard credits him with teaching him how to write (likely an overstatement, but still). Owens played in Collins band prior to his success in the late 50's.
