Impressive fatherly direction. It's so easy to forget the importance of clear and simple communication (what, where, when, why).

10/10 content! I love seeing the new generation learning the basics.
This fills my heart with happiness.
One of the most important things one can do is pass on their knowledge.
    Well done!

Very cool Jason. Will be in north Georgia teaching a class of 75 kids and parents wilderness skills and search and rescue very soon. Teaching kids is awesome!!

What a brilliant dad. Teaching things you never know when you'll need, but having the skills and memories that it can be done is invaluable. Even using a lighter. We don't encourage enough of that here in the UK England. Thanks for sharing

Great video!! My youngest grandson went to a outdoor program with his class a couple weeks ago. The teacher was a friend of mine. But he didn't know my grandson. Well he was very impressed with my grandson. Grandson started a fire with a flint and steel. Knew what a Atlatl was an how to throw it. The friend started talking to my grandson an figured out who he was. Got a call that afternoon telling me I was doing a good job. He was saying my grandson was helping the other kids out. My friend was impressed. Yep I'm blowing about my grandkids. Got to pass the knowledge forward!! God bless!!

Isn't it just so wonderful to work with kids. They are so curious and if they're interested they will learn it the first time. I love working with kids it's just so much fun and you did a pretty good job teaching them. Y'all have a great day stay safe keep dry and keep your powder dry also!

    What a great Dad!
One of the most important responsibilities of every adult is to teach the next generation to be confident and self sufficient. I found two things that instilled both of those qualities: primitive fire making, and tomahawk throwing.

Kids are sponges for learning. That’s why it’s SO important that we monitor what they are being taught outside the home and reinforce our values, believes and knowledge to them every day at a level where they can understand.

It is important to teach kids fire skills early in life. My dad dad taught me when I was very young.

I was the Cub Scout Leader of our church a few years back (before we disassociated our charter). Flint and steel fire was the most favorite class. We did it three times a year. Some of the parents, and other adults in the congregation, would always show up to learn, or refresh, the skill.

Kids. Teaching them the basics of fire starting seems to not hold their attention. But when the fire gets roaring, they will pile the wood on. Nice teaching moment.

Next would be testing the kids patience with starting a fire in those conditions with nothing more than the available resources in nature & lighter then to something that they’d probably really enjoy both making & using a fire drill, etc. I hope these kids are shown all the available ways to start a fire & in numerous environmental conditions! Let’em burn responsibly!

What? Doesn't Maggie need to learn how to make a fire? Maybe she does have 4 left paws, but she still deserves a warm spot to dry off and warm up. And she's family, right?

At stores now, you must be 18 years old to buy a lighter. They card me sometimes when I buy them. Oh yeah! I'm 61. I kinda go off on them politely asking So, you would deprive a child of a life saving tool? I HATE PC!
