I love the back to basics videos. No mater how much experience making fire, there is always something to learn from other perspectives. Recently, I’ve learned that doing and teaching are not the same, and the later is often the most difficult. Thanks Tyler!

When I agreed to make these videos back to try basics was the plan. And yes teaching really teaches the teacher. It helps you to truly know the content because you have to explain it in detail.

Appreciate the tip on the raised platform. No better reference than Nessmuck. Right on with the less sawing strategy. Unnecessary calorie consumption and sweating, could both be bad. Great video! Keep the information coming, love the content! 👍👍😁🇺🇸

Gordon here , How I do that here is birch bark that is peeling away and small dry limbs from the bottom of a spruce tree ,I put birch bark on a bunch sticks which off the ground and then place the small limbs on top of the birch bark ( which like gasoline) and be very careful not to burn one self. One match or a bic lighter will do the trick to make a bond fire in 2 minutes. Once fire is lite keep adding to the fire and it will grow fast as you want and hot as you want. I live in a area with spruce ,popular . birch , and alot of dead standing wood to make a fire. When I go hunting I gather birch bark as I go by and place into plastic bread wrapper to keep it dry. And also have wooden matches dipped in wax to make water proof matches . You be surprise at what your grandparents can teach you if ask. Both grandparents taught me how to survive and live off the land the old ways , So now I teach when ask to ,ONLY WHEN THEY WANT TO LEARN HOW TO. f or my grandparents live on in me thanks to them I have no fear of SHTF. I too also do as you do by breaking the wood and also if nothing like that is around I use 2 standing trees and break the between them by using my weight up against the wood and press hard to break them . It takes practice and you will learn .

That’s awesomeness. I only wish we had paperbark birch here to use.

Great video! My favorite lay is a wax-covered cotton ball nested in dryer lint, birch bark or fatwood shavings under a layered "tic-tac-toe" pattern of twigs on top of a slab of tree bark. Once that bark starts to dry, it burns long and hot and further allows everything above it to dry out super fast. I burn successfully in some pretty wet climates with this lay.

I've not done this but planning to: A Swedish fire is a cross split log held together. But maybe this can be simulated by a close wall of standing blocks lit from the middle.

Great video for us noobs I'm city slicker and never was around anything country. Or rarely.. I dug a fire pit into ground and of course found out that's not good. So filled it back in last year. And fire is way easier above ground. Gonna try this today after work. Neighbor has huge pine tree in corner and I have unlimited dead pine in yard I blow with blower to corner and save.

Want to be with God for eternity, here’s how:
There is one God who is eternally manifesting himself in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
The Bible says, that we are all sinners.
As it is written: There is none righteous, no not one. Romans 3:10
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags Isaiah 64:6
For the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23
(The word “death” in this verse speaks of spiritual death in hell.)
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Isaiah 1:18
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures 1Cor 15 3:8
In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:14
For by grace ye are saved; through faith and not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vein Galatians 2:21
If you would like to receive Jesus as your Savior.
Realize that you are a hopeless sinner and trust in Jesus and only Jesus to save you.
You can say a prayer expressing your gratitude, sorrow for your sins, etc. the words don’t matter, but remember your prayer doesn’t save you. Your trust in Jesus and what He did for you on the cross is what saves you.
The moment you trust in Jesus and only Jesus, you are saved.

If it works in winter on cold ground and will light huge logs for a multi hour fire i would suppose it will work anywhere. It's basically an upside down lay. For decades I made fire like everyone else. Recently following Mors Kochanski I changed my style. Your location and amount of wood available will determine your setup really..
You start with big logs down parallel with a gap between them. You lay your bigger stuff on top then smaller, smaller, smaller and birds nest on top..gravity will carry all the embers down and light what's under it. Unless it's really windy You can scale it up or down for the size timber your using.
If your going for a clandestine smokeless fire I recommend a dokota fire pit.. if you want to see the best example on you tube I would watch grey bearded green berets presentation on one.

I think you lost 1/2 the viewers when you started whacking the branch to break it into pieces; they were expecting you to use the saw, like an 'expert' would.
