  • Efteling is a fantasy themed amusement park in the Netherlands. This massive park is beautiful with its elaborate theming and beautiful greenery. The park has a bevy of dark rides, the famous Fairytale Forest walkthrough, and an underrated collection of roller coasters.

I see you still have Monsieur Cannibale in this video (the rotating pots). Since the beginning of 2022 it's been restyled in a Sinbad the Sailor style and renamed to Sirocco to fit more into the same theme as Vogel Rok. The ride itself also got a bit more intens, it's now supposed to represent Sinbad the Sailor who get's stuck in a storm half way the ride. Also next to Sirocco is a new children's water playground called Archipel. You should look it up if you haven't already done that. The new theme looks very cool and it's definitely better than it was before!

The Efteling is a relax park, to explore the park you need 2-3 days.

I prefer this park over Disneyland Paris. Its much more customer friendly. Prices are more resonable and you can even bring your own food and drinks if you like. Also its much greener and spread out. I can get really busy, especially in the summer, but it never feels as crowded as a Disney park. That makes just strolling around and take in the sights and sounds much more enjoyable than the stress a Disney experience can cause.
The rides and theming are up there, in fact I would go as far to say that these are probably the best dark rides outside a Disney park you'll find anywhere. For an American audience the coasters are perhaps a bit underwhelming and on the shorter side, but its a nice mix of everything: A steel looping coaster, a woody, a darkcoaster, a water one, the B&M dive coaster of course and a family coaster. Its all just very authentic: The train is a real steam train, there is a real heritage steam merry-go round. A lot of the scenes in the Fairytale Forest are true originals, dating back to the 50's. It just feels real, if you like. It had famous "imagineers" that shaped the experience like the absolute legends Anton Pieck and Ton van de Ven.
Mind you, the park is owned by its own foundation, so its fully independend and not owned by some anonymous mega corporation. You can really feel this effect in the overal friendliness and "easy-going"of the place and its a much less hardcore commercial experience since the park itself is in full control of everything.

Went to Efteling a couple of days ago and Joris, Vliegende and Baron were all closed (Baron because of high winds, but the first two because of annual maintenance), plus Danse Macabre and the Grand Hotel were in construction, so the front of the park felt like a construction site.
Not gonna lie, the visit wasn't bad, the park was beautiful, very walkable, friendly staff, and had a good world class collection of family rides and attractions, but I really think the park loses a lot without those three main coasters - Halve Maen was my favorite ride there. I feel like Efteling is just this much from being the greatest park ever 🤏, but I think they're missing a thrill ride (not necessarily a roller coaster, but a thrilling ride, such as a drop tower like Falcon's Fury, since they love working with Intamin and add odd great rides hahaha). But yeah, can't wait to go back there!

I think Vogel Rok is a bit misunderstood in most reviews. It's a 1001 theme where Sinbad get's picked up by the giant bird at night and flies him to his nest. The ride is supossed to simulate that nightly flight so you mostly stars, desert, other birds and a far away castle I believe. I actually like it because it's dark much like those dark (water)slides it gives you some extra thrill.

Good review; only issue I would take is the capacity on some attractions. Whilst they aren't bad per-se, rides like Baron barely achieve 7-800 per hour due to poor design. For a park of Efteling's popularity, that sort of figure just isn't good enough. Joris, unlike Wodan and Wicker Man, has seat belts - slowing down operations needlessly, and Die Vliegende Hollander has an odd seat configuration which fails to maximise capacity. Otherwise, most rides - including the dark rides and so on - all good.

@@CanobieCoaster For much of the world these two terms have been interchangeable for generations, so of course it’s understandable. But in the last couple of decades much of the world outside of the Netherlands has been correcting itself. Holland is just one area (well, really two areas) of the Netherlands, so calling it Holland is like calling the U.S. “California.”

Dutch people call The Netherlands sometimes Holland as well. We even got a television program called Holland Got Talent.
