    =======================================================
    In the 50+ years of rooftop tent history, the sleeping surface of a hard shell rooftop tent was limited to the car roof. Now, iKamper presents the Skycamp 2.0, the world’s largest expandable hard shell rooftop tent. Comfort for a family of four or three adults.
    Consistently improved on and developed with an optimal design and the right materials, iKamper quality is top of the line. Skycamp is certified with the ISO 9001(Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) international standards.
    Skycamp's floor is made of high-performance aluminum honeycomb panels: extremely strong, lightweight, insulating, fireproof, and eco-friendly.
    Poly cotton canvas is breathable (less chance of condensation) and insulates very well. You won’t get as hot on a warm day, nor as cold when it is chilly. It is heavier than the Poly 210D, but due to its weight and insulation properties, it is quieter if there’s a breeze.
    This fabric can also last longer and is more resistant to harmful UV rays. Poly-Cotton canvas is waterproof, but care should be taken to dry out the material before closing the Skycamp to avoid mildew.
    Skycamp has been tested in winds up to 20m/s or 44mph (these are VERY high winds). Please be cautious, iKamper does NOT recommend camping in extremely windy conditions (National Weather Service issues a High Wind Warning when winds above 40mph are expected).
    Skycamp 2.0 Improvements:
    ✔️ Thicker Mattress: 1.8" high-density memory foam
    ✔️ Interior Design: World map graphic
    ✔️ Hard Shell Locks: Stronger stainless steel
    ✔️ Windows: Outer fabric turns into a canopy
    ✔️ Mounting Brackets: Easier to install
    ✔️ Redesigned Ladder: Safer and more comfortable
    Features:
    ✔️ 1 Minute Setup: Get out of your car and be ready to camp in 60 seconds.
    ✔️ Expandable: The Skycamp's king-size mattress sleeps 4 people.
    ✔️ Aerodynamic and Lightweight Design: Looks great and fits on most vehicles.
    ✔️ Customizable: Choose the color of your hard shell and the accessories you want for the best camping experience.
    ✔️ Detachable: Switch to the Airflow Summer Tent (sold separately) in hot weather, and back to the canvas material for cooler times.
    ✔️ Breathable: Insulating Poly-Cotton Canvas tent fabric.
    ✔️ Hard Shell Locks: Closing straps have locks to give you peace of mind.
    ✔️ Quality: The Skycamp is made with love at our own factory in South Korea with quality components and custom molds.
    ✔️ Optional Rocky Black 2.0 Shell Coating: A tough, scratch-resistant coating designed for off-roading and Overlanding.

    I've read into a lot of the car-top-tents and I believe that this is (probably) one of the best designs for ease of use, and the hard shell design. The BIGGEST FLAW in this design is that you have no room to leave your bedding in there. It is expensive too. For this price i would like to see it integrated into an included pickup bed rack. I would like to see a truck accessory company like LEER buy a little company like this and integrate them into camper shells that match your truck. Cool idea?

    My wife and I have been using a Tepui RTT for 5 years now and while we are very interested in this RTT the big issue we have is the thickness or lack of thickness in the mattress. I sleep on my side a lot and have found that these thin mattresses do not provide enough comfort to avoid pressure spots on my hips and shoulders to be comfortable. We in fact had to add a topper to our mattress increasing the thickness to 4 inches in order to be comfortable. When designers figure this out and provide a proper, comfortable mattress they will surely increase their sales but for now, it's a no go for us.

    Great video. I gave a question . I just bought 2019 4Runner Limited and it came with OEM roof-rack . Can I use iKamper SkyCamp 2.0 with my OEM roof-rack, if not ,then what do you recommend aftermarket flat top roof-rack? thank you

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll want to replace the factory crossbars with aftermarket bars that are stronger and more rigid. It is possible to use the factory rails, but given the length of the tent and how the rails don't reach all the way to the front, the tent will be unbalanced and have too much cantilevered off the front.
      We'd recommend this system for the Skycamp: www.rackoutfitters.com/rhino-rack-rlt600-black-vortex-3-bar-roof-rack-w-rts-tracks-for-toyota-4-runner-2010/

    Can this be installed and work with my factory gx470 roofrack or do I have to buy an aftermarket flat top roofrack? Great video. Would be cool to see how this thing holds up in snowy conditions. I have electric blanket, solar, and inverters. Does the Ikamper have it's own rail rack as optional equipment? And when stowing, how does it do with condensation

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need to upgrade your crossbars and something like: www.rackoutfitters.com/rhino-rack-ja9568-rch-vortex-silver-3-bar-roof-rack-for-lexus-gx-2010/ would be a good choice.
      Like any of your gear that gets wet or has moisture, you'll want to air it out after use, also the rainfly is easily removable. If you must stow the tent wet, first remove the rainfly which will have kept the main canvas mostly dry.

  • @JustinCaseSolarPower
    @JustinCaseSolarPower 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    looks good in priceable. Has a lot of things wrong with it. when driving at speed in the rain or he think dust we get on in the outback of Australia it would leak like a sieve. Not dust or rain proof when closed. 2 in The rooftop tent we use (electrick popup) yes just push a button and the bed is made. We have a 25cm Gel foam mattress. Very comfy and a great night's sleep. Trust me after a had day hiking or driving you will love a good mattress. This unit dose not have to room even to upgrade to a more comfortable mattress due the the way it folds.
    A Rooftop tent is a lot of $ these days. So before you buy consider very carefully what you need it for and how much are you really going to use it and If it is worth the cost.

    Can this be mounted on a Rhino Rack Backbone with the Pioneer Platform on a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL with the three piece Freedom Top? It seems long and I want to be able to remove the front Freedom panels over the driver and passenger.

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Freedom panels can be removed with the rack in place. The tent will be higher than the rack, so that should still leave enough room to slip them out. We haven't had this specific combo yet in the store, so we cannot confirm with 100% certainty.

    This looks like a very good quality tent. Setting it up at ground level looks fiddly and doesn't look like you could easily leave your bedding inside it for travel, im also concerned that condensation or the retaining of moisture after a rain event might be a worry when packing it up. Overall a geat review as we are searching for the ultimate roof top tent.

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James, the rack have a couple of weight rating. They have a dynamic weight rating which is for when the vehicle will be driving, this weight limit is usually lower at around 165lbs - 200lbs. There is also a static weight rating for when the car is parked, the static rating is much higher usually being 2-3 times the dynamic rating. The exact value will vary per case.

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bert, Generally truck covers are designed to seal off the bed and keep the weather out of the bed. The SkyCamp could be mounted on a rack just above the level of the bed rails on a crossbar system. The SkyCamp is about 7 feet long, this would mean that the tent would extend beyond the bed length on shorter bed lengths. Most find the best application is a truck cab height bed rack to support and center the iKamper over the bed.

    @diydad6705 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So close. Looks like it solves the "stuff the tent back in when closing" problem with those straps (clever), but still has the "fiddling with spring poles" issue. Which granted isn't a big deal on shorter vehicles, but I'm done with standing on tires, clambering around and putting in spring poles. I wanted to buy this tent, went with the biggest FSR for the family, but I'd drop it in a hot second in favor of this if iKamper went with telescoping arches instead of spring poles (a la FreeSpirit). And, I'll admit, an insulated option is a lot better than I ever figured it would be. But that hard cover though.

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spring poles should be set up from the inside of the deployed tent, simply reach out of the window, insert the spring pole ends and hook up the awnings quickly without having to reach up from the ground, stand on a tire, ladder, truck bed, etc. Having these awnings can make the interior of the tent much more comfortable by deflecting sunlight, wind and rain from the window. Exposed windows without awnings leave the user with fewer options for their comfort.

    • @diydad6705
      @diydad6705 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rackattack Not arguing the importance of window awnings, just wishing for a better support mechanism. Reaching out the window to feed spring poles into slots mounted on the underneath side of the platform is a little inelegant. I watched a TON of videos featuring this tent, and people either did the awning poles from the outside (like in this video) or skipped them altogether. Not knocking this tent to be clear, it's very nearly perfect, and no one's doing it better.

    Can you leave your bedding in there?

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard of people bundling smaller sleeping bags inside. Loose bedding I wouldn't recommend based on stories I've heard. The loose bedding can get caught in zippers and stuff. I wouldn't suggest leaving anything inside for too long or months at a time. Wouldn't want musty smelling gear! If you do try to place anything inside to save time make sure there is 0 pressure on the lid. I don't see it listed as a feature but have seen many people do it with sleeping bags!

    I am sure it will be a lot more harder to pop it open and close, once it is installed on top of a tall SUV, its windy and raining, it would be best to just sleep inside the SUV!. That's how I have been camping, sleeping in my SUV and not having to deal with damaging it when parking in low ceiling parking garages here in San Francisco, something for buyers to beware!

  • @hawaiianpunch6534

    I don't care much about that sky view window. Eventually it'll turn black like those vinyl Jeep or convertible windows. If they have an option that doesn't have it I'd get that one. I do like the clam shell rather than a soft top. What would be cool is a light weight thermal quilt that you can put in between the rain fly and the top of the tent or even have it sewn on the rain fly itself to help keep in heat at night. Heat rises to the top just sayin'.

      I would suggest hand washing or removing the tent before going through a car wash. Some touchless ones might be okay, but even then if the water is sprayed from every direction why risk it? That and the roof of the vehicle will have a dirty spot under the tent anyways. Removal would be my advice.

  • @donaldwatson6342
    @donaldwatson6342 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    that is harder to setup and take down than my vehicle attachable ground tent. 1) there is another set of keys to lose. 2) the velcro fastener should be at the bottom of the ladder so its easier to reach. 3) hydraulic struts fail in cold climates like Alaska. 4) straps get tangled easily. 5) not enough overhang covering the ladder. 6) the ladder should not be the support for the platform. just these issues alone keep me from spending that amount of money.
