Being European and living in Hungary white blends are definitely well appreciated in our household. The white blends from Tokaj, Somlo, Balaton and other regions are quite fun and intriguing. As the different cultivars balance out each other and create harmony in the glass. As I understand, it before the '60s and 70's Bordeaux mainly produced white blends and they were pretty trendy back then, with Jackie O and others drinking them. I like this video, it's nice to have some variety and change things up from time to time. Cheers and great video!
Thumbs up for revealing the wine straight after tasting it. My go to white wines are Rieslings from the Nahe, Pfalz and Rheinhessen and some Grüner Veltliners. I rediscovered Soave Classico and Friuli and discovered Bierzo Godello. Touraine / Vouvray for old world Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. Keep up the good work, always enjoy your vids.
Just discovered a Picpoul from Lodi! What a rare single varietal. It was definitely Rhone-ish, rich and minerally. A very nice effort from Guthrie Family Wines. Have you tried it and, if so, what do you think?
I definitely like your original blind tasting method with the reveal at the end. It gives me a chance to anticipate your preferences and scores before you unveil. Really enjoy your enthusiasm and video's. Glad you stayed with it.
In my youth I started with Chardonnay. Then I gave on white wines and went res. Now in the last few years and getting very serous about exploring wine I have begun to embrace whites. I recently discovered Treana Blanc. A blend of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. WOW. Rich and complex. Thanks for expanding my palate.
Another fun one. Either way the revels are fun, but I guess I prefer the other way where you progress to the best wine. You always have a wide variety of wine, but I'd love to see more that are readily available in the US. Thanks for sharing another good one.
I recently had a Chardonnay Viognier blend from the pays d’oc It was delicious and only €10! Amazing how the two grape varieties complemented each other
Great video. I’m a fan of white blends absolutely. I’ve had some “regular” ones like northern Rhône blends and some that were off the beaten path for sure. In fact when I’m drinking wine by itself I’m pretty much going with a white blend. Cheers!
I like the new style better. Thank you. My favourite Whites are Riesling from Nahe and Rheinhessen in Germany and from Burgundy. Although they are way too expensive.
Just before putting on the video I had to choose a wine to open and without knowing it I was very close to opening something related to the video. I first thought to open an Etna Bianco (single variety though, Carricante), then I almost decided for a white Crozes-Hermitage (again, 100% Marsanne) but in the end I felt it was time to open a banger. J.J. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese 2003. Exquisite. Regarding how to blind taste: I don't think it matters much but I would probably do the old method more frequently. I think it's helpful for you, and for us, when you have the ability of going back and forth between wines.
Agreed, one of my favorite wines is the alto adige producer Baron Widman’s Weiß, 60% chard vinified in french oak and 20 and 20 Pinot blanc and gros manseng vinified in acacia.
Great video - thank you. I absolutely enjoy white blends, and at my lowest budget it's what really delivers interest & balance more than single varietal wines. Good to hear from an expert that my palate was telling me (and my wallet!) something sensible!
Do we like white blends? Heck yeah. I love your suggestion of "throwing it all together." That's how the huge seller Caymus Conundrum got started. These wines are all white blends, yet they are still pretty different, making it hard to compare them as apples to apples. I think when you have a line up where the wines are this different, then this format of instant reveal works really well. It does help to better tie your initial impression to the label. And it's smart that your show notes are not in the same order as you tasted them. I did miss some of your scores that pin your impressions down when we want to know how much you liked a wine. Glad you liked our 2020 Nimmo. And, yes, do make your way out to Paso and stop by up north in Lodi when you do! Cheers!
Both reveal methods are great and give different levels of confusion and reaction, mixing it up every now n then keepin it flexible is perfect. Diesel fuel quality is an interesting description 😂
Spot on opening comments regarding reds get all the “serious” credits, however there are some extremely enjoyable and complex whites that dance across the palate with a different tone but quite wonderful as well!
I Like this style of blind taste going one by one. The taste notes are fresh otherwise if you show all the wines at the end you kind of forget what you said on the first ones. No spanish blend 😢
I like your other method of revealing the wine better. The only thing you may want to add is the name of the wine on the screen while you taste it so we don’t need to go back after you reveal the order
That idea of editing the wine name onto the screen for the reveal-at-the-end format would be more convenient, but might also take away a little from the build up at the end. Hmmm. Maybe experiment with it? I agree that I go back after all the reveals and try to find when he is giving the first impressions of certain wines. Interesting...
Actually many wine professionals and wine lovers in Europe believe that white wines are more interesting and complex than reds which are more uniform around the world. I belong to that crowd too
I really like your videos and look forward to every test. But I feel a bit ripped off with this one because after testing the bottles are still closed. We don't see you pouring the wine either. and I thought to myself: “Does he drink the same wine all the time and just tell us something?”. anyway: keep it up. The videos are really fun.

Ohhh some classic wines there!
@@drmatthewhorkey I mentioned only affordable wines. 😀

Have not tried it
I like it when you reveal each wine after tasting.
Ok!
I liked the reveal after each taste
Thanks there will be a mix over the next year
Like this style of presentation more. Happy new year
HNY to you as well

Niceee sounds like a lovely blend!
I drink whites more than reds probably for the same reason as you do, they are more complex, more varied and more affordable.
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
When you said "white blends" at first I thought of white bordeaux.
I LOOVVVE White Bordeaux and featured several in videos last year
Ding ding
I like both ways of your blind tastings. Appreciate learning about the different regions and your so fun to learn with.
Thank you so much
I will def have to seek and try some white blends now!
Do it!

All wines in this video except the first one is available in the USA
Good to know, thanks.@@drmatthewhorkey
looking forward to them. Thanks.

I am shocked at how well your videos work. I was expecting to be bothered by the video cut style, but it works. Enjoy your videos!
Thanks! Why were you expecting to be bothered?
I really think that Chateau Simone (Palette) white wine is a hell of a wine. The nose is extreme ! Try it if you can and you will adopt it !
It is a helluva wine, the red too
I recently had a Chardonnay Viognier blend from the pays d’oc
It was delicious and only €10!

Niceeee!!!!
For me the king of white wine blends is alto adige region, very affordable also
agreed on quality and affordability...
Love the format! Let’s get you out to Paso to explore the region.
Yes I want to get out there!

Ahhh that is a good one to sip on alone
I agree some videos on Paso Robles would be awesome! Paso got me into wine and your videos are great! Keep up the good work!
You'll see more Paso wines soon :)

Nahe is my Riesling region!!!
@@drmatthewhorkey Especially Diel, Dönnhoff, Schönleber. 😃
@@fschmiechenI visited all of them :)

Budget doesn't matter (to a certain extent) in wine as there are beautiful affordable wines out there! keep having fun
I had the Esporao in Jose avillez restaurant in Lisbon. It paired well with tuna tartare.
That would be a good pairing!

I prefer this way of revealing where you give the score right after describing the wine. to tell you the truth, the old way got me lost in many cases.
Thanks, there will be a mix in the future!
Love the subject ! I have to study more about white blends ! I am only familiar with Portugal blends . Cheers !

Great video! I really appreciate you always including Portuguese wines, which are, unfortunately, frequently overlooked. Keep up the good work!
I love Portuguese wine
Frankly, I prefer this format. More immediate feedback.
Hugel Gentile! Standard blend for Alsace, but very good!
Thanks!
I love Etna Bianco wines and for $29 bucks I want a case of it.
It is a steal for Etna wines!
One recommendation from Napa believe it or not. Massican.
Love their wines
