It's interesting that so many wine writer and critics favorite go to wine is/are GSM blends. They are often more approachable earlier than most Bordeaux style blends and sometimes offer better bang for your buck. Besides the southern Rhone, I've had some Spanish ones with a bit of Spanish twist, e.g. Bobal, Tempranillo that were pretty enjoyable.
Aussie ones are nice as well, but depending on the store/market they could be a bit heavier, more oaky and over extracted.
I haven't had any South African ones, but based on my experiences with South African wines made from Mediterranean varietals I imagine they could be quite good. As they strike a good balance between ripeness and more full bodied, while still retaining greater freshness, higher acidity and are more savory.
This of course is also dependent on the vintage and the producer. Cheers and great video.

My favorite and surprised it was not included in the tasting are the PIC SAINT-LOUP wines from my backyard in Languedoc-Roussillon in the south of France! Some of the best wines in the world in my opinion even though I am a bordeaux blend fanatic and I LOVE MERLOT

Hey Matt! I think of GSM as an Autumnal wine and so to celebrate the last day of Autumn, here in Australia, I cracked a bottle of 2021 Serafino GSM from McLaren Vale in South Australia. Cheers!

Oh, I've been obsessed with GSMs ever since I've found a cheap CdR Village (Plain de Dieu) that completely changed my opinion on Grenache - which I couldn't stand before. I dedicated the last 2 years to drinking GSMs from all over the Wine World, and, outside of the Southern Rhone, I've found great examples in Spain, with reasonable pricing. Your (and mine as well) dear Borsao does a great one. I've had the Cotes du Tablas, and thought it was decent, if overpriced and overhyped (I get that Jason Haas is charming as hell). I've had two disappointing Rhone blends from Chile (Errazuriz' 2016 The Blend, which was dead, and Ventisquero Grey GCM, which is one of those Chilean heavy wines without any personality). I had a great one from Australia as well..,Angove's Family Crest from 2018...really simple and really good.
I'm not that high on Priorat...I think their wines are way too expensive and demanding. Montsant, on the other hand, has never failed me. Dido is a superstar wine, and I had one called Acoustic this year, that was really good.
I'll try Garage Wines GCM from Chile. They work with old vines, and maybe that's what's missing here.
By the way, do you know Carmelo Anthony is a huge advocate for GSMs? Every guy that played with him tells the story of how he introduced CdPs and CdRs in their lives.
    Great tasting as usual

@@drmatthewhorkey just got back from France. Mostly bourgogne and rhone with a little cycling thrown in to justify the wine. gigondas is TINY, but great; Ventoux, is large, but lovely (Via Caritatis), discovered Seguret, heard about Jura - must go back. Great videos, keep it up!

Great vid and review M! Love GSM big time. You also mentioned my two of my favorites....favorite region in Paso Robles and and favorite wine/winery in Saxum. I've been on the Saxum allocation since 2010 and being in Southern Cali myself I do get to visit Paso once a year. Yes Saxum is pricey but for me well worth it for sure. Hope you do get a chance to get to Paso Robles one of these days. Lots of other quality wineries there to explore. Keep up the great work! Salud!

My best memory of GSM was a visit at Domaine du Pegau. Must be 30 years ago. Outstanding wines and at that time somewhat affordable. Now they're busting my bank. I noticed with wines from the Rhône valley that the alcohol usually is blend in well. I had some boxes from Domaine de Piaugier in Sablet, with alcohol around 14,5 to 15 percent. But they had substance, fruits and roundness. I did not notice it actually, even not in the finale.

You’re in the premium price range here, I’d be disappointed if these wines didn’t perform well. It gets a lot trickier as you go down market and that is why Bordeaux outperforms in this lower price point. There are a lot of terrible GSMs out there.
