Man after my own heart. Love a good fire. Nothing like these, but in High School growing up in dairy country, having equipment to build our Home Coming Bon Fires made for some amazing fires. Could be raining and if you stood within 10 feet of the fire, the rain would evaporate before it hit you. Thanks for sharing.

The “fat wood” stump is the pitch or resin. It’s Terpene, a hydrocarbon. Long leaf pine has the most and can literally explode into flames.

I had a chance to watch some lot clearing near my house for a few minutes today. It was a 1 acre wooded lot that was about half cleared. It gave me some perspective into what Chris does and how much material is on a lot that size that needs to be dealt with in some way. It provided a bit of scope on how much material was in this project, even after the loggers hauled a lot of it off.

What enjoy the most about watching you do these projects is that once you see the land scape you can all ready see how you are going to sculpture the terrain. When you crunch the numbers its a done deal... All that's left to do is move the dirt. There never seems to be any indecision from you as to what its going to look like or how you are going to do it. Its like you brain makes a cad program for the project and you just run with it... I laugh sometime when you are moving dirt and just to be sure that you are on grade you will get out and take measurements and you are about an inch off... wow.

Don’t forget that there’s a second helping of Chris while he is on this project!! Bealy Good on TH-cam is also posting video with content from his perspective. He does some interesting close ups with the drone right in front of, or just behind the equipment!! He speaks of more of the stuff he and Chris talk about as well. He is improving with every video he releases it seems.
I don’t even know the fella, I live in Alberta, Canada!! Haha. But I have enjoyed the work they are doing on this farm!! He is showing some of the animals they are gradually getting and naming them. There’s a little bit of “Bama Bass” in this as well. Not a bad thing at all!! Bama Bass built a pond in a much different area where they had to dig the pond out of a mostly flat field and create a significant dam to back up 5 acres of water. It was filled principally by a hurricane, some storms and a water well that has a very high rate of productivity.
They had to haul in 3 ft of clay for all 5 acres, plus around the pond and to build the pond dam! It was about $1 million to build. I suspect Mr Bealy is fortunate with his topography and soil types so his shouldn’t cost near that including the clearing of the trees!! I hope anyways,,,,, ouch!!$$$!!!

we call the heart wood of pine otherwise known as pine knot. we used to start our wood stoves with it when I was a kid. only problem with it as far as woodstoves and or fireplaces are concerned is the build up of tar in the flue.

Sitting in an open area in a thunder/lightning storm and you're in a big piece of machinery that is all metal - brave man.

He's safe, just like being in a car in a storm is safe. The metal directs the current around the frame and to the ground

@@manw3bttcks - especially if it get rain soaked first. If it were the old Cat D6 or Betsy,,,, I wouldn’t want to test that theory with all of the metal controls!!! Heh heh.

But a car has rubber tires...

@@JCrook1028 - Car tires are loaded with graphite, silica and other polymers, but there’s little to no rubber in car tires today!!! True.
The graphite is a conductor,,, to a degree, the silica isn’t. Many cars and trucks get hit by lightning every year. There’s one I saw recently in the news, a Ford SuperDuty that caught fire and melted!! There was one locally a couple of years ago where the bolt went through the passenger roof, floor and passenger seat in a vehicle. The driver was burnt two ways. One by the heat of the flash so near to her and the other by electricity that went through her and her hands took the brunt of that. 1st & second degree burns on her face, ear and side, all on her right. 3rd degree burns mostly to her hands. The baby in the car seat behind her was unhurt. The empty car seat behind the passenger seat was scorched. The driver stayed conscious!!! She got stopped but the vehicle was dead, her purse and cell phone were on the passenger seat. She couldn’t help the baby in the back due to her hands being so injured. Good samaritans stopped and took care of things for them though. Love it when good people show up!! Didn’t hear anything else about them. The car had a 10 inch hole through the roof and seat and 3 or 4 inch hole in the floor.

Where are you getting the water to fill this pond? Are you going to count on rain fall or will you divert water from somewhere else?

You are not sitting in a lightning rod. You are sitting in a Faraday Cage so safer from lightning than you would be in a house.

Storm missed us today, we'll get hit tomorrow. We're saddled with some lousy burn laws
