Great review as usual! However, the highlight was your ever changing expressions, Paul, while Todd was truly enjoying his turn to drive. Your mouth would “contort” and your eyes go from big to squint to sparkle for a high percentage of your passenger time like I’ve never seen before. Excitement/tad of fear as you reminded Todd that he’s moving rapidly…😅
Great job as always. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though it is not a car I could ever see myself buying even if I had the budget. I’d be interested to see how it compares to a Quadrifoglio -- an Italian alt though it’s on the way out. I think used Astons would probably also be in the conversation.
I have to disagree, the back seats are VERY usable. I'm 6'1" and can fit behind my driver's seat without touching the roof with my head. My 5'8" adult daughter sat in the back seat for a 600 mile drive without complaint. It is a rare modern 4 seater that is sporty and luxurious the only other is the Bentley Continental GT. That is why it is so big. And the reason I own a coupé S and cabrio S. Mine are the 4.7 V8s.
Well $225 loaded. If you specked it out carefully you could probably get it in the low 2's. But consider Bentley, Aston Martin etc. In straight line performance its not far off. It drives a lot smaller than it has a right to based on its size. It is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Further its not a mainstream car for an affluent person like a Panamera is. Finally it's got AWD. I also heard that the Modena is not much different in the way it drives to the Trofeo and now your down to $185K. So if I had the means and wanted to be different, why not!
Maserati is on a ROLL! I can’t wait for the Levante to get this treatment as that for sure will be a knockout! The same way the DBX needs the new DB12/Vantage interior!
In other reviews they said (and prove) than a person not taller than 5'9 can fit well in the back seats, in fact it's one of the best in its class in this matter. So, what are you two talking about???
Our guys are both 6’3” and the seats are shown in their driving positions. While we do believe smaller drivers could have smaller passengers behind them, no one would have fit behind our guys and kept their legs. This is quite common in most 2+2s. If others can use it as a four seat, that’s great - this is one of the larger 2+2 offerings. Thanks for watching!
I love Maserati even though it would bankrupt and shame my family heritage. I dont' care - I want to be that oddball person at Cars and Coffee in my $250k depreciating car in the midst of a sea of Porsches.
Although I find that price utterly shocking, if you compare it to the new SL, M8 competition etc I guess it makes some sense. However 1 month after buying it, the value will drop to sub $150k which is the real death knell.
You guys are wrong about the back seats in this new Granturismo, they are actually usable even with the front seats where men would sit. Ive seen other videos where they demonstrate this, there is even head room for an averge person.
I always wanted Maserati to be the cheaper and more fun Ferrari. With the price of manual exotic cars holding so much value. I would love to see there NA ferrari codeveloped v8 with the flat plane crank. Last 458 engine type thing. The F136 FL was 600 hp. And put a manual in it. It would be something totally different.
The biggest issue with this car is that theyre asking a lot more money for what is a refresh of an existing design that started a lot lower in price and is currently a fraction of the price for clean used ones. And while most things are a step up, some things, notably the engine and exhaust are actually a step down, which is a consideration. Compounding the issue is that Maserati has trashed their brand value ajd that exclusivity appeal with their cheap, garbage entry vehicles, namley the Ghibli (though the Quattroporte is also not holding the line either). So their asking price for this is completely out of line woth their market position and the expectations provided by the previous version od this very same car. This would be a great $150K car. And when these inevitably depreciate as most luxury and exotics do, but especially as Maseratis do, these will be incredible values on the secondhand market.
I really want someone to go over, pound by pound, why modern sports cars are 4000lbs. That's fine for the GranTurismo, but how are the Mustang and M2 nearly the same weight?
So... Maserati first noticed customers wanted luxury and sport, so they figured out how to make a luxury car sporty. Then Porsche figured out how to make a sports car luxurious. Then the whole automobile industry decided that every car that wasn't an economy car had to be a "sports luxury" car, which simultaneously destroyed the concepts of a "sports car" and a "luxury car" and now we have a base 3 series that might as well be a Camry for all the sportiness and luxury it actually has

That does seem to be a lot of money for that car, but I kind of dig it. To me, Maserati should be somewhat rare and exotic and the less common choice. They're good cars, but flawed. Beautiful, but expensive. Not as try-hard as some other brands' products, just nice overall for street driving. Uncommon with an exotic flare. But realistically, they'll be heavily discounted after the first year or two. It will be bought by people whose Ferrari dealer will only let them order a new Ferrari if they buy the Maserati first.
