Ron Paulk Inspired Trailer: Jan. 2018

  • January 2018 rig tour. Talking about the whole set up from the truck up front to the trailer itself and how it was finished. Inspired from Ron Paulk’s ART. Added some of my own touches along the way. I’d say the trailer is about 90% Finished. Still have a few things to do to say the build is at 100% and then it will be constantly evolving to become more efficient. Thanks for watching.

    Very well done and thought out. I too have a Paulk inspired trailer. Actually I helped build 3. Myself, my father and another friend that we work with. Once you have one of these you wonder how you did without it. Thanks for the tour.

      I can agree with that. I had been planning the trailer for a while. I was in business 2 years before I finally bought the trailer. I don’t think I could go back now. My work has evolved a little bit too and I end up on bigger jobs where I can park my trailer on site for a significant amount of time.

      Cool, man! Looks awesome! So far, I've built the Paulk Total Station, and I love it so far! My only advice is to make it out of as light of plywood as possible; I sprung for baltic birch, which is strong and pretty, but it's very heavy and cumbersome when made into a 3'x5'x10" bench. All the Best!

    Amazing job!
    I have spent a lot of time looking at Rons trailer and variations of it on TH-cam - with this one being THE BEST so far. You appear to live in colder weather as I do so I had a few questions about insulating it, coffee pot, paint Yata ... (I live in the maritimes - Canada). Do you have a garage you store it in ?
    Again AWESOME job!

    • @TheRealBeardedBuilder
      @TheRealBeardedBuilder  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Devon&Rebecca Bergsma thanks! I live in south eastern Wisconsin. I do have the heated garage and the trailer does fit. However most of the time I just keep my glues and stuff in there and grab what I need and bring it with and then leave them in the customers heated area until I complete the job. I really struggled on whether or not to figure out a heat solution for this. Ultimately I needed the trailer too soon as I got rid of my old truck and needed a way to haul tools so I didn’t spend the time figuring that part out. Maybe in the next trailer!

    • @TheRealBeardedBuilder
      @TheRealBeardedBuilder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Russell Freer it’s a Bravo Scout 7x16 with 6 inches of extra height. I highly recommend the extra height if you are taller. I’m 6’ and having the extra 6” of head room inside is nice.

  • @waldnernick1
    @waldnernick1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    About how much plywood does it take to do a project like this. I am switching from a 7x16 to a 8.5x20. I was going to buy tool boxes but after seeing the drawer setups you're making I am going to go that route. Kind of wish I would have seen some of these Paulk inspired trailers before I bought this 20' trailer. But I also do it all and need to haul it all.

    • @TheRealBeardedBuilder
      @TheRealBeardedBuilder  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      waldnernick1 hey thanks for the sub! I forget the exact amount but there is a variety of 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4. I also purchased a little extra so I could build some benches as well. I believe my total bill for AC plywood was about $1100.

  • @berndheiden7630
    @berndheiden7630 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nicely done! But wouldn‘t you want to have a fusebox with an RCD at the electrical connection to an unknown outside source with all the stuff you have on your net? The trailer counts as beeing outdoors as far as electrical hazards go.

    • @TheRealBeardedBuilder
      @TheRealBeardedBuilder  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bernd Heiden I’m usually hooked up to an exterior outlet or garage outlet. Both are 95% of the time GFI protected. Basically I looked at the build as there was little difference between unloading all my chargers and plugging them in on site or running a long extension cord to the trailer. Same goes for the compressor. No different than plugging it in on site. I just hate lugging it around so I’d rather roll up air hose at the end of the day.

      I’m looking forward to the track saw. I think after that I might try out a new plunge router. streetfiremkv12 tricky question. I bought the plans. Made a lot of modifications along the way. But the plans do help with the amount of time you want to spend figuring it all out. You need to think like a ultralight backpacker..your carrying a lot of extra weight, that's wear and tear on your truck and extra fuel. You don't need all those levels or all those hammers. Carry everything you need but leave the extras at home.

    • @TheRealBeardedBuilder
      @TheRealBeardedBuilder  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Russ Cherry so I worked like that for a while. But if you forget about one tool the run back home can make or break a job. Most of the time this trailer lands on a job for a few weeks at a time. I would rather have everything woodworking related in one place so I can tackle any task at hand. This is just the way that works for me. The truck and trailer are both way overbuilt for what I haul around. And as stated before the truck goes to and from the job one time loaded. For the 3-4 weeks in between I run the truck completely empty to and from.

    • @straight_to_finish
      @straight_to_finish 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      FF Barry - I couldn’t agree more. My old trailer was totaled by another driver who rear ended me-no insurance of course. So I bought a new trailer and have been itching to outfit it similar to Ron’s Awesome rolling toolbox. My old trailer had every possibly tool. So for the past 6 months I’ve been working out of my truck; loading and unloading tools for jobs and would constantly run back home to grab something. Who knew you needed the tools to repair a tool you were using? Oh-because it would have been in the trailer-all that extra weight! Or I would run to one of the box stores to buy yet another caulking gun, when my old trailer had like 4. Btw, how long did it take you to build-out? I’ve been way too busy with jobs.

    • @TheRealBeardedBuilder
      @TheRealBeardedBuilder  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Saridel Hel sorry to hear about that accident! That’s never good! The build out took me probably 150 hours on my own. I set up a bunch of time lapses but lost the footage unfortunately. But this has saved me a ton of return trips on jobs being able to have any tool at any given time.

    • @dpeagles

      dpeagles I agree. I’ve done some remodeling in this trailer. But I’m really debating on getting a little larger trailer as the collection of tools has really grown. The scale of the jobs we’re tackling today are much larger than the ones I was tackling in 2018.
