    You should totally make more videos about sustainablity even if it is your delimas with it. I'm excited to see what you're gonna come up with in the future! :) Best of luck with school and getting settling into your new place ❤️❤️

      I second this. I would like information regarding the opposite side sustainability and plant-based/veganism. I would like to really consider each side as I am transitioning myself. Thanks for the inspiration!

      Also, opinions of almond milk/what do you drink to replace milk, if anything at all thanks!

      I dont know if im necessarily looking to know more about the "opposite side" because I think that sustainability is very important but more so I think these dilemmas that she's experiencing is something that needs to be talked about because it's something I've thought about as well. I dont know the solution to these issues and its a weird feeling when you feel like you have to know how to solve them all by yourself. Idk I think creating a community where it is safe to talk about the dilemmas of how to be efficiently sustainable is important because conversation invokes change. That's sick that you are looking into becoming vegan though! I just wanted to specify a little more about what I meant in my comment :)

    • @anjelicarice803
      @anjelicarice803 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, this was aimed at her! I would like to know if she has opinions regarding both sides. Basically, how can I gradually become vegan and sustainable at the same time in a legit way, but also as practical as possible. I am on the same page as you though, having a place where there can be an open dialogue would be awesome. It's always helpful to bounch ideas off each other, we can learn so much because everyone's experience can be different.

    Hi Jenny! I'm totally on the same page with you on your thoughts on sustainability. For me, one thing that immediately popped into my mind was the lack of body representation and accessibility. Sustainable brands, as a whole, tend to cater to very small sizes, completely ostracizing a majority of people who are larger than a size 8-10. This contributes to the larger issue of sustainability seeming like this exclusive, elitist club only thin-bodied individuals can enjoy; because of that, it's far more difficult for the sustainable movement to be widespread when options don't exist or are very, very limited for different bodies.

    You are honestly such an inspiration to me. It's so amazing to see someone who loves fashion but also considers the ethics behind it. I always felt bad for my interest in fashion, but after watching your videos, I've realised we can shop smart and rep such amazing brands that actually care about their impact. Please don't underestimate the amazing impact you have on people! Love you!

    I feel you on the sustainable dilemma. I’ve been driving myself crazy just thinking about the “zero waste” movement and eco consumerism and the lack of WOC representation in those spaces. Just make sure to take some time for yourself & talk it out with your support group.

    i'm so with you on your sustainability struggle! i just recently purchased shoes from veja which is a sustainable brand, they used recycled materials for their nylon and use fair production methods, however they use leather. sustainability isn't a black and white issue, i can't buy shoes claiming to be vegan when they're made of plastic and made in sweatshop conditions. sustainability is about informing yourself and making your own decisions after weighing out pros and cons of the things you consume. it's about CONSCIOUS consuming.

    I have not been too well mentally recently and i also started eating poorly, so i think it is a thing for many people. I am happy to see that you do not dread yourself about that as well. For me i see that the moment i start feeling better, my diet improves, my excercise time goes up and generally have more strength to work towards the dream version of me. For me it is a new discovery, I see you already have it wored out, so thank you so much for the inspiration!

    I think your confusions about sustaiability and ethics is a lot more relatable than you think. I would love to see a whole rambly video about what is going on in your head surrounding that topic :)

  • @zoelinnea963
    @zoelinnea963 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Jenny! I 100% agree with your comments here-- I'm in school for environmental science and have studied similar topics regarding ethics & sustainability. I try to reduce my impact, buy sustainably/ethically, and reduce animal suffering wherever possible, but it can be a double-edged sword. Even if it may go against the grain a bit, I definitely think it's important to question things and explore the greater impacts on animals and societies near and far (present and future!) that the production of some vegan/sustainable goods can have. I would love to hear more about your thoughts on these kinds of topics going forward. :) Also, that class you mentioned sounds SO COOL. Great video, and I hope all goes well as you settle back into school and into your new space

  • @SandraCastro-np9dh

    I completely understand the conflict of choosing a sustainable option. I used to be an environmental science major and in class we learned that sometimes the most "sustainable options" weren't so sustainable after all. For instance, there is a misconception about electric cars being more sustainable than gas fueled cars when electric cars are indeed still powered by nonrenewable sources. The electricity is derived from coal, gas, and nuclear power which in the end are still bad for the planet. It is very hard to stand behind a certain option because there are so many factors to consider. However, I am very happy to see someone speaking up about these issues, much love 💞

    i think it's really important to talk more about being ethical, there are loads of vegan people in the media preaching but then you see them promote brands like primark that use slave/child labour, really underpay their staff and keep them in dangerous and bad conditions and ik they are seperate being vegan doesn't necessarily mean you care about people aswell as animals but it doesn't really seem like you're being genuinely ethical if you don't care about the whole world around you, so it would be really nice to hear more about ethical things in general terms really.

    Dear Jenny,
    This is the most honest video about sustainability, ethical fashion, consumerism and veganism I've ever watched and I'm so grateful about it. I feel the same way about the class you're having about making fabrics from bacteria, plants, etc. I would love to continuing knowing about it cause it's really amazing how we all have so many options to care, preserve and help the motherland. And take it easy about being vegan 100%, you're doing great and it's about to know yourself, how it works on you inside and out.

    this is a great video, seriously, i love how nuanced your discussions are. when you're talking about the negatives of leather alternatives it reminded me of the stuff about how almond milk (while a nice vegan milk) is not very good for the planet, and often involves unethical production for the workers. i really like how you're not super over the top and black and white about things - you genuinely come across as someone who cares about the planet and people enough to properly look into things rather than just having an opinion and shouting about it. i'm vegetarian not vegan, though i try to be sustainable, and i've had some ott people shout at me about it, which is insane, esp as when i did go vegan it brought up some disordered habits for me. anyway, this is a ramble, but i want you to know that you really inspire me, and you're one of the most genuine youtubers i follow!

    A huge misconception regarding vegan leather vs animal leather is that synthetic leather is worse for the environment. In actuality, treating leather and the resources used for leather production is far worse for the environment. I encourage you to look into it :) if you are looking for more environmentally friendly alternates, waxed cotton is great! I just wrote an article for the latest issue of Chickpea Magazine about the global environmental impact of veganism. Let me know if you want me to email you a copy. It's a beautiful magazine. But as far as your environmental concerns, living a vegan lifestyle is the single best thing you can do to lower your footprint :)

    I get what you're saying about Veganism. I eat a mostly plant-based diet, but I don't call myself a vegan because if I really feel like it I'll eat sushi or some chicken. I also don't want to feel bad about it because I want my diet to be life giving not only for my body, but for my mind. So if I'm stressing or feeling guilty it almost defeats the purpose.

      You're putting your cravings over an animals life, please reconsider your actions. Nobody wants to "feel bad" and that's why you shouldn't do selfish things. Veganism is healthy for any stage of life, and actually has been extensively proven by science to be the healthiest diet. Whole food plant based is best for the environment, the body, the mind, and of course the animals. You also talk about wanting your diet to be life giving, but what about the death and suffering of other beings it contributes to? We don't need to have an argument, I just truly want you to consider these things

      Ok, first of all, you don't need to mansplain why veganism is healthy and good for the environment as if I already didn't know.
      2. You're drawing a really, really harsh line in the sand by calling non-vegan consumption "selfish". I do not think it's that black and white. No one operates in a purely altruistic lifestyle.
      3. "Life-giving" I'll admit the semantics are messy. BUT that is the way our entire ecosystem works, things die to give others life, whether it is plants or animals or even our own cells. As someone who grew up ethically farming and hunting there is a really good point to be made for conservation, especially with fish. In a perfect world we wouldn't have to even disrupt animal's ecosystems, but here we are.
      4. The high-pedestal, preachiness is not going to win anyone over. I know many people who refuse to even consider plant-based alternatives because of how pretentious and shaming the vegan community is. I would argue your tactics are doing more harm than good. Why would I want to be in a community with people like you who encourage guilt? No thanks, this is why I left religion
      I just truly want you to consider these things.

      @@emmaripley9688 you assumed I'm a man, but I'm not. From your comment it's clear you aren't and never were vegan. Veganism is an ethical standpoint. Have a nice day!

      I never said I was a vegan. And women can mansplain just as hard as men can.

    I see how vegan promotions are great, but are not eco friendly. I feel on the fence, because I want more people to become vegan and see the beauty in it, and have foods they can enjoy that is cruelty free and good for the body...but then I know it will eventually make more waste. Maybe the first goal is to tackle down the animal consumption first for people since animal agriculture is the main culprit for pollution. Just recently , pig blood and manure spilled in the Atlantic oceans due to hurricane Florence...that's going to kill animals and make a lot of people sick.

    I think its a bit cruel to get a rabbit in an apartment with no garden :( I think it would cause a lot of stress to the animal
