      2hr walks, 15-30minutes of high intensity exercise 3x per day. Bite work is intense so 15 minutes is fine because it involves more mental effort. When she gets too excited, it can get a little scary... an 80lb dog sprinting full speed in every direction and pouncing toward you is a no- no. If the e collar doesn't work the crate is the next resort. I have a heavy duty crate with a 1" thick matt so she doesn't eat anything like a blanket.
      All food is given as a reward and that's the benefit with kibble, mine is 30% protein she gets things like eggs, cartilage still etc with wet food... Even with all that exercise and training, the gears still turn! If she is a "bad girl" which is at least two or three times a days, she has to go in the crate for a nap and CHILL.
      I train my dogs to associate relaxing and happy with crates by only feeding them in there as pups and sleeping there. It's a happy place. 😊 It's not Jail! For the most part lol.

    I’d say there’s three sectors of the breed. Show lines are divided between American/Canadian show dogs, and European show dogs. They’ve been divided for probably about half a century. As well, the European show dogs are required the same health tests as the working lines over there. In America, the OFA database has shown the hip dysplasia rate decrease greatly over the past 30 years.

      I am in the UK and i would still go for a working line GSD . While the European show line GSD is not as exaggerated as the American show line GSD , the European show line still have exaggerated over angulation compared to the working lines.

    When you say show line I assume you’re talking about America showline. They are NOT the same as West German show line. West German show lines are world class with excellent health, working ability and beauty. The most popular type in the world. Please interview a WGSL breeder with German import dogs. There are several in California. This review is very general considering there are several types of GSDs. Thanks.

      Completely agreeing with you. Problem is Americans wan big dogs, so they chose to bring the biggest GSDs from Germany and started breeding in a way so that they bcome bigger and have a better angle slop (sloping back). Pure Bred WG GSDs working line are medium sized and have a less slope back.

  • @alexbond03
    @alexbond03 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Some imp points - Avoid getting a working line like West German GSD working line as a first time pet owner, as they have super prey drives and they have very high confidence, and would need proper discipline and socialization otherwise can get dangerous. Most importantly, if you are willing to get a show line GSD, plz get a straight back and NOT sloping back, as they are bred just for their big size, coat and slanting back which result in hip-displecia and is very painful for the dog. Also, don expect your showline GSD to guard you like a protection dog, however, they are better for a first time owner as they have average to mild temperament.
    P.s i have a West German GSD working line, and he is a darling.

    I think that show line GSD should be tested for everything. It's when you get a backyard breeder dog or from an unethical breeder. However, these days, reputable breeders will test test test. It's not really fair to clump 'show lines' with backyard breeders. Or? Find a dog that has BOTH. Show lines and working lines. Working lines can have so much drive that they aren't going to be proper for a normal household with children or your typical owner. And make sure those working lines are being tested too. Just because it's working lines doesn't exclude them from the need for those tests.

    I have two work-line german shepherds.... they seem to get larger than show shepherds so if size is a factor for you definitely get a workline

    • @tvvistedv3nom26
      @tvvistedv3nom26 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s odd because show lines are generally bred to be bigger. Working line are medium sized most of the time. I do have a very large East German working line male which they seem to be the largest of the working lines and a Czech female that is pretty small for a shepherd. Used to have show lines and they were all as big or a bit bigger than my male I have now

    11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
    14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me- 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father-and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

      You can tell by looking at their dogs, and it should be obvious if you're getting your dog from a reputable breeder. Most reputable breeders have a website, or Facebook page, and if you look around on there it should be obvious. If they're showing their dogs for conformation, they're show breeders. If their dogs are in protection sports, or agility, or herding etc, they're probably working bred gsd's. If you can't tell just by looking at their dogs you might wanna do more research though, lol.

    So basically I'm going to comment this video to give my opinion on show line German shepherds. Yes, I do agree that the working line is usually a healthier line to breed and to have but I do believe that there are breeders that breed show lines so that people can have a more balanced German shepherd with a lower drive and a better fit for familys and that also breed for health and their dogs have higher back legs, which means the Dogs are straighter. I also know that some breeders of the show line sometimes have to mix the show lines with the working lines in order to have healthier dogs. It is harder to find a healthier show line German shepherd these days but it's not impossible!

      Also I have a show line (female) German shepherd that has a normal back and is amazing at search and rescue and is a great protection dog. A really hard worker 👌

    Hopefully you guys are educated now because show lines are actually much more healthy than working lines due to having better angulation throughout their body. Working lines lack proper movement and structure typically they’re restricted to elbow movement when it should be the whole body moving.

    Working line German Shepherds are far to extreme for the average person to handle. It becomes a lifestyle, a lifestyle revolving around your dog! No ands, ifs, or buts. As a preservation breeder of the German Shepherd my goal is to have a dogs that can compete in the show ring, and also the protection field.That means breeding working lines and show lines together, and the dogs being produced have been amazing.
    Now, I love your channel and your documentaries, but as a dog trainer and AKC exhibitor in multiple venues, It is absolutely ludicrous to say show line German Shepherds have hip and elbow problems as a whole, when it was backyard bloodlines ruining the breed. 99% of those dogs from show breeders are OFA tested and have good, excellent hips. Anyone can check OFA's (Orthopedic Fountain of Animals) website for I am so tired of this false narrative that rear angulation = hip problems. It doesn't at all!
    The breeders we need to be against is the backyard breeders, and the average folks who want to have a litter with their GSDs with HORRIBLE temperaments and health. Guess what? THOSE breeders are creating hip dysplasia, DM, epilepsy, and and trashing the breed with other issues, don't attack preservation show breeders.

    • @claireabbott6112

    I feel like the Show Line GSDs are for people who want a dog that is "intimidating" and popular, but they don't want to go too much into the hardcore training of a Working Line. They're also for families that don't even worry about throwing money at the vet.
    Edit: Also, I've heard from a lot of GSD owners that they're very in tune with emotions and that can hinder training a bit. If you get too frustrated with them, they will become worried and confused.

    And one comparing working line German shepherds to show line German shepherd‘s nearly 90% of the time the working line German Shepherd‘s have weaker hips and are more prone to hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. Whenever correctly bread show line German shepherds went through a webet they always scored excellent nearly 80% of the time but working lions almost always score mild to normal I’ve never seen a working line go on excellent on their hips. So typically if you want a healthier dog that’s going to live longer and have the reduced risk of hip and elbow dysplasia I would go with a show line
