    I had a working line GSD when I was a kid. Man, was he energetic! But that dog was the greatest dog you could ever want. His job was to be a best friend to a growing kid and he lived up to it every minute of every day.

      I have a jet black working line German Shepard and boy can he guard. Show lines are more gentle and a bit lazy. Working line is a hot wire and very energetic and has outclass defense drive. Working line is much much better dog if you don't want a couch potato.

      I am well aware
      I hate this sort of thing
      May it be sloped backs or extremely shortened muzzles
      I get that aesthetics matter but never at the expense of health

      truth!!! they just make the dog look hella awkward and unathletic

    • @clifforddsouza1282
      @clifforddsouza1282 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It should be a thriving animal first
      Then they can worry about adhering to standard
      Breeding deformities into dogs and calling it standard is just irresponsible

    It's such a great pleasure to look at the square shape of the GSD with the straight back. I cannot stand those "frogs" with sloped back.

  • @7thCobweb

    i have a black working line GSD as a pet! she is the most amazing animal to train, but i cannot stress it enough that very few people will actually have a good time with a working line GSD as a pet. it's very time consuming to train them every single detailed rule in the apartment household and urban setting. it sure works, but only if you are a VERY experienced trainer who is willing to put in all their time. at least you're not gonna need patience, if you do the job right, they get what you want them to do with of about 3 repetitions.

  • @justinroe9271
    @justinroe9271 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have a black and tan working GSD. His energy and prey drive are off the charts some days but he has a switch when we come inside the house where he just calms right down. It's like having 2 different dogs. Absolutely love these lines.

  • @cuchanu
    @cuchanu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    You said the working line has a "Calm confidence" and I just assumed that was my dog's temperament but I noticed it all the time. When we are at the dog park he completely ignores annoying dogs until the point when they are posing a legitimate threat. And then he usually turns around and gives them a scary bark so they leave him alone. His attitude is unbelievable, the best dog I've ever had.
    I would definitely say though that you need to be the alpha and you have to be active. They need structure as you put it.

    • @alxdava2004
      @alxdava2004 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Without a strong hand they can be very destructive

    • @harrymolloy823
      @harrymolloy823 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If u need a strong hand that means u need more structure it has nothing to do w being alpha

    • @lojibaybee
      @lojibaybee ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s absolutely right definitely needs to be the alpha my boy try to be the alpha he bit me twice. I had to put a good old fashion butt whooping on him and put some structure in place now he looks at me like the king.

    A lot of people are unaware of the fact that all German Shepherds appear to have a sloped back due to how they are made to stack. “Straight back GSD” aren’t a thing. They all (well bred ones) have straighter backs, regardless of lineage. 😂

    Working dogs are amazing, and so are these videos. As someone who trains mondioring with my Malinois, some great questions I would ask the dog owners would be how they got started in the sport and the pros/cons of it. I love the 'Living with" series and I'd love something like that with every owner. Can you get some footage from competitions perhaps? Maybe other disciplines like specifically 'Ring sports vs IPO and 'agility' 'dock diving' with other great trainers

    The biting part though (not full bites, except maybe one) and lake of speed even when it's filmed in slowmotion is noticeable. But besides that love seeing people getting interested in the dog sport! Keep it up!!! 😉

    That was fascinating, I didn’t know much about the background behind that kind of training before. This series is awesome, I always enjoy watching the videos.
    I think it would’ve been nice to change the music after the conversation ended, changed back to the classic Bring Da Smoke music that has more bass. That fits better with the training part of the last third of the video, it emphasizes the power and strength of the dog you are watching. And that helps the video end with impact. Anyway, just sharing that thought since you guys mentioned you like feedback. :) Awesome videos though, I’m always excited to see what you guys post.

    There is not a finer working breed on the planet. Breed fads come and go, but the GSD remains the go to decade after decade once the novelty wears off- Dobies 70s, Rotties 80s, Dutchies-90s, Mals-lately. Johny come latelys. Germans regarded Mals are throw away dogs- head cases, neurotic, small bat eared dogs with little use except in extreme hot climates. Ill take a GSD any day.

    A bit too small for my taste my east german working bicolor is running at 96lbs the extra weight can be a hindrance but I've had 70lb west gsd and his bite work was decent but the size really limited him, my eastern takes down the trainer like a sack of potatoes. I park every morning in an area where rather high income people walk their dogs. I see some of these German shepherds, that must have costed a lot of money, and it feels like watching a freek parade. Some of them almost can't walk and they definitely don't walk properly due to their ''show loved'' disfigured backs and legs. I'm not an expert but it sure looks that way. It breaks your heart. And it proves also what kind of @/?!@ are out there in large numbers that they are beeing sold sick disfigured creatures as home protection dogs or as ''status show off'' dogs.
    Fortunately besides them I see in growing numbers, a lets say new generation of owners with beatifull mix breed mongrels probably adopted from some shelter. And I tell you you can find some really sturdy home protection dogs among them.
    If I may add, is there some kind of trainer or ''breeder'' who likes to work with mix breeds? This whole breed conformation stuff is evermore looking like a freek factory.
