  • The rock pool gang is a four-person crew who maintain Wollongong’s eight coastal pools all year round. Whilst many may envy them their outdoor workplace the fearless foursome has to work quickly and efficiently against both tide and inclement weather.

A variety of tools and large machinery are used depending upon the pool’s condition, and before the Bulli Baths children’s pool disappears under sand entirely, the gang of four resurrect it and clean the empty 50m pool beside it.

what about a select bunch of local schoolkids helping out with the clean up , may get a better result in the time allotted between tides , easy to organise a roster for each pool

Could someone explain the logic of these pools, for us not from Australia? I'm sure there is an interesting story.

It's safer for kids. The sea conditions can be treacherous with fast running rips.
