    Good video Andrew. i think that I did it wrong last year when i got my bees. I fed them the full feeder when trying to get them to draw comb. They didn't draw the comb completely, just stored the syrup. Thanks for the tip. looking forward to more videos.

      @@irishbee3632 ok. Any tips of how to get bees to expand and maybe get some honey this year. i have 3 hives that have got through the first winter for me. We have a lot of trees around us but no oil seed rape. I live in the country in Donegal. We are about 2 weeks behind you with the weather.

      @@kevinbarron3569 the wilder the area for nectar in 3 km from apiary radius the better. You don't need rape fields as the honey from it is really tricky to harvest. Willow, Heather and sow thistles are the best nectar plants. Weather is of course crucial for the good nectar flow.

      I'm originally from Ukraine. There's a lot of useful info on TH-cam about beekeeping in Russian. I aim to share my knowledge with the part of the world I'm living in. I see no point doubling on info that already exists in excess.

    2 question, why don't you prefer frame without foundation ? as I believe putting foundation make it more artificial way, also foundation have chemicals. Also how much honey do get usually from one hive ?

    Great video, thanks for sharing the use of insulation board as dummy boards, I'll use that tip this year.
    Any advice on bringing a swarm out of a tree and into a box without climbing the tree? I've been told to use lemon grass oil? Thanks, Rob

      there is a special trap for swarms on the trees, with chemicals that attracts them and they fall into the mesh. The other method is to get a box on a long enough trick and but one frame with small amount of the opened brood. It will act like the best lure for bees.They will be in the box within minutes.

      @@robertobalzi6287 lure or the box with brood has to be as close to the swarm as possible. 6 m is surely too high for any action, so I would say the chance of catching this one is slim.

      Thanks, Ed. I find poly better for colony speedy development but prefer wooden for honey harvesting for its natural material and durability.

      Andrew, when you open your hives, the plastic always has condensation - is this OK for your bees?
      And where do you get your insulation pillows?

      i use open mesh floor. top is always airtight.

      I think you have it wrong. If the top and bottom open- it's not ventilation, it's a draft. Strong colony will wax the top to make it airtight. I use draft only for winter to stop queen laying. In hot summer days, if ever happens, roof is insulated, so no heat comes in, and aluminium cover reflects the sun out. And spase 8 mm under crown board letting the bees ventilate over the top frames.       @@DublinVideos i have large amount of timber hives, i assembling and selling them. polystyron ones using for quicker colony rising and for queen rearing, making nucs etc.

    Hi Andrew, thanks a lot for making this video.
    I wanted to ask something though,
    I recently started beekeeping purely as a hobby, and have caught two swarms in through online tutorials. The boxes I've used are frameless, simple boxes where bees can make hives as they like.
    But I received Langstroth hive (which I ordered off course after having successfully caught some bees
    what should I do now!
    should I transfer them to Langstrogh hive or not, or keep them as it is, I am worried that if disturbed them they might run away!

      @@freelancestudio9130 if you transfer any brood into your Langstroth hive the bees wont fly away. Definetely trasfer them from just a box, they will love it.

    Don't no will you see this but could someone explain the feeders to me I am just killing loads in it like 300 at lest and it really effected them bad ...and I have made the syrup exactly how your ment to it's not that that is the wrong

      So the one whit the cup on top I wasn't told to put the cup on so think that was my mistake...I also don't no when to feed and how much bit these videos are great and helpfull I am just starting but have 10 beehives now 4 doing really good but the rest are only half full but I don't want to feed them to much it's confusing like if I over feed them it's bad
