It might surprise you to know, that when she made this appearance she was fresh out of the hospital from a devastating car crash that did horrible damage to her face. Her face is still badly swollen and she is heavily made up to cover the fresh skin grafts. The bandeau she is wearing is to cover where they hadn't grafted as yet. It amazes me that she could sing so beautifully that soon. She is one of my favorite singers of all time.

I had a college student from India staying with me, and when this video came on TV one evening, I called her into the room to watch. She was so impressed. She said it was so noticeable that you understood every word clearly, but the most amazing thing was that, with so little body movement, you felt everything, all the heartbreak, Patsy was feeling.

The way she breaks her voice in certain places, a "little cry" as you call it, is something I'd never really noticed until you pointed it out. It really does give the song raw emotion, like it truly was someone on the verge of breaking down crying due to love lost.

I started watching this video and 373 likes and ZERO dislikes. I refreshed this just now and you're at 380 to zero. This is because of Patsy Cline, but also a large part is because of you. You have a great smile, but it is revealing to watch when you react. Patsy took a deep voice dive and you cranked up a big smile. But there was another passage where you're eyes gave you away. You have such a respect for these people as musicians as well as their persona. You are a great storyteller and that is why you have such a loyal following. And storytellers must attract storytellers since your comments section is the best on You Tube.
I am an expert on car accidents, and your description of her injuries hit home for me. I had to take a history, have people tell a story of their accidents. I listened to well over 500 accidents, since many of them will visit a Chiropractor. Since I have a shoulder problem, I quit manipulating years ago, but I still manage to help people. Hitting the windshield with her forehead meant that her skull and neck had massive damage. This is important since this is a singer's instrument. Combined with the other injuries, she was one brave woman.
See you at the next one, Fil. Rock.

Dude, I made a general comment on a video you critiqued before, but I have to tell you I'm just in awe how you analyze and dissect music. It's honestly intriguing to me and keeps my attention on how you explain the songs and performers history, vocals, the terminology. I truly enjoy how you teach the layman how to listen to music and the general public what we as listeners take for granted. Your videos make listening to music fun. I'm intrigued by your knowledge. Honestly I listen to music more intensely to catch those subtle notes and vocals that you speak of. You make music fun and interesting. Also, I appreciate your passion and your presentation. Speaking of the incident in 1957 she said, "I developed a terrible throat infection and my heart even stopped beating. The doctor put me in an oxygen tent. You might say it was my return to the living after several days that launched me as a singer. The fever affected my throat and when I recovered I had this booming voice like Kate Smith's." I don't think there was ever a video made of it, but check out Pasty singing "Faded Love."
I believe that song along with "Sweet Dreams" show her vocal abilities better than any other songs she did. It has always amazed me that it is seldom mentioned anymore, being over shadowed by "Crazy."
When Patsy was handed the lyrics to Faded Love she is said to have asked
"What are you trying to do to me, these lyrics are heartbreaking!"
When she made the recording the sigh and break in her voice that you hear at the end is real.
They decided to leave it in and I am glad that they did. Every time I hear this song it tugs at my heart and brings tears to my eyes. It has been doing that to me for over 50 years.
I was born in 1953, and I had the privilege of enjoying Patsy Cline while she was still with us.
By the way, thank you so much for all of your videos, I have enjoyed every one of them I've watched.
From an article written about the song.
"Her emotional rendering of “Faded Love” is a haunting one, especially the finish of the song when it seems that she’s about to break down at the end, pausing and taking a deep, audible breath before singing the last note. Many thought the track was ruined, but producer Bradley did not ask for a re-take, a prophetic decision considering the plane crash that took Patsy’s life a month and a day after she recorded “Faded Love.” In the weeks that followed Patsy’s death, her distraught husband Charlie would constantly listen to her take that breath at the end of “Faded Love” and exclaim, “She’s not dead! Here she is living, breathing!”

She started singing out of necessity. She was the real deal. EVERYONE looked up to and respected her. Vocally she is unparalleled in the entire genre of country music. @@paulablissett9396 yes she has been battling depression for over 10 years now and has been taking a break from recording and touring. She, like Patsy, has a one of a kind voice and her loyal fans miss her dearly so, according to her last interview, she is supposed to going back into the studio the end of this yearor beginning of next year to record a new album, all songs she either wrote or had a hand in writing. She hopes the album is done and all recorded by the end of spring so she can start a tour to promote the album no later than end of summer, beginning of Autumn/Fall. Now the depression thing is a for sure, as for the album part, it all depended on if she found the right antidepressant. She said she was so tired of the medicine her doctor gives, "only helping for a little while then feeling worse than before she started the medication". Many prayers for her, depression is a terrible thing to live with and, if not on the right medication, can cause suicide thoughts or worse! 😥
