2022 wasn't my best year as a merchant marine. With everything going on I wasnt able to sail the way i wanted to and i honestly didnt even feel like sailing that much either. So it came out to be a lower then average year for me. But there is always this year !!

I honestly don't know to much about it but I definitely will do some research. But if I'm not mistaken you get 85% of your base pay of your highest 3 years. So if you retired as a chief engineer you will get 85% of your base salary as your retirement
Do you have to take the ship they assign you or can you decline and wait for another one?

Hey man I’m in the process of getting in msc I was in the navy a boatswains mate 20 yrs ago though I needing work and my son needs my help so I am joking msc. I gave a few ? What’s food like? Is there a weight room in ship? Will I be able to move up quick if I hustle and want to? Thank you for any help!
Food is aight depends on what ship you got and who the cook is. Weight room I'd a yes but not all weight rooms are created equal. Moving up depends. What position are you trying to get and what are available

happy new year bro. so i got a question so when you get on the ship are flying to italy from the states or are you getting on the ship from the states and flying back from italy and if so is it all paid for by MSC
Just depends on the location of the ship and what's the ships mission . This last tour I was home and we sailed overseas. Amd then I had to fly home. Check out some of my previous videos from this tour you will get a better understanding

Where do most people live in MSC? do you have to be by Norfolk. I was thinking if you go out to sea for 4 months and get 1 month off, why would I rent an apartment for a year, what do most people do thanks.
No you don't have to live in Norfolk or San Diego but some do choose to get them a place near by because it makes it easier. But no some of mu friends live in Florida, Texas amd all throughout the US. And some live outside if the US.

Depending what company. Msc you habe to.put in a ksa or an resume for the upgraded position and hope you are selected

You can live on a boat I know a few people who live on ships and just gets a storage unit dor the rest of there stuff.
Bet and one more question I just got My TWIC card what would would be my next step to getting my MMC and I just got out the navy in November would i come in like as a higher rank or level than people who hasn’t been in the military or it don’t matter essentially
@DresWaytv essentially it doesn't matter unless you have specific certificates that correlate to position you applying for. Like if you was going for Radio and you communication experience that'd put you directly in that position. So if you was in the engine room in the navy and you have certificates that would directly effect what position you might be qualified for.
On the sealiftcommand.com website look at different positions you are interested in and if you qualify, apply girl them

Lol it hasn't changed a great amount. But the best way to make more is to move up. And start other things at home to make more money.

Can you clarify what a shitty ship is? I hear it being said but I dont see any clear descriptions.
Lol depends on what you looking for. A ship that overtime is ass. Or a ship with a shitty captain. Or a ship that doesn't go to different ports. I can't tell you what's shitty to you because ship's differ by case. But one thing if your department head is on some bullshit you'll know cuz the other people in your department will definitely tell you. And that is whether you deck, supply, engine it don't matter.
@@MikeMills1 I'm ex-military so I understand. A bad leader will make your life hell. How "good" most jobs are really does tend to depend on who you're working with/for. So I feel you. At least it's for 3-6 months not 3 or 6 years. Appreciate the info.

$1700 biweekly? For being on a ship every day, not seeing your family or friends. Even coming from nothing as you say, that is not very good pay. You can just get a normal job without a degree that pays that much if you put your mind to it and it's less hours and you get to have a life.
Lol this is an entry level positions pay. And 1700 Is on thr low end for me. Amd that was tske home. Usually I gross about 4 to 4500 every 2 weeks so about 8k a month. I dont know what entry level j9bs make that at home. If I can find a job like that at home I'd gladly take it right now. But there isn't. And I still got stuff I gotta do. So c'est la vie!
@@MikeMills1 Oooh ok, that was when you first started at entry level. That makes more sense. Now 8k per month or more sounds like much better pay for the type of sacrifice this job requires. Not bad at all.

@robmen1402 depending on the ship and yout position. Some positions is anywhere from 15 to 25k per month but obviously those are thr higher end of the spectrum

@@robertmanning5 lol all the numbers I give depended on the ship I was on how long I stayed. So is it possible ? Yes but it alllll depends my guy. You'll see though
