Jesse, really enjoyed learning about the police horses of the Netherlands. Being a Canadian we have a strong tie to horses being used in our Nation police force the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They have been breeding their own horses since 1939 which were mainly Thoroughbreds until 1989 when they introduced Hanoverians into the program. The RCMP Musical Ride started in 1873 and has performed all over the world. They have gifted 8 horses to the Royal Family in England the last being to King Charles in 2023.
I saw the RCMP Musical Ride at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tatoo in Scotland. The show was memorable and the RCMP got a great reception. The whole show was amazing!!
I worked at the stables at the Exhibition Place in Toronto for a while and got to see how the police trained their wonderful horses. They're beautiful animals and HUGE. I worked on the other side of the facility where regular lessons were given, but even being able to see them up close was a treat.
Actually, the RCMP horses were draft cross. Primarily Clydesdales with thoroughbreds. Thoroughbreds are too light and their legs could not take the pounding police horses experiences. Then they were chosen for the dark bay/black colour. My father was trained to ride as part of his RCMP training. The program at that time was based on British cavalry traditions.
Jesse's energy is so soft you just want to cuddle him. Its just so rare to find a soul with such a natural connection to all animals, I would say also there is an active brain behind all that soft energy. Many years ago when I was around Jesse's age we had the mounted police from B'ham bring their horses to the yard for lunch time, when one of the policemen approached our naughty horse, she had a cage like top door because she was a biter. The policeman said she wont bite me, as he stuck his nose through the bars, well she did.
What a professional and pleasant person Ingrid is to show you the ropes on how the police take care of their precious horses, and what a nice facility. Learned a lot today Jesse, I enjoyed listening and watching this video Thank you Jesse and Ingrid for taking us along.🎄👍
Jesse .... your interviewing skills are superb, each one better than the last .... you put your guest at ease and ask interesting questions which elicit knowledgable info & keep your viewers interested as well. So well done and thanks for this one !!!
Very good video. As a retired farrier I really appreciate the attention paid to the shoeing of these working horses. I also noticed that the farrier hobbles around and that’s the sign of a very experienced farrier as is to be expected in one who cares for horses doing an important job. Real life working horses are a rarity these days.
It's very nice to see that the horses of the Mounted Police can, like any 'worker', have moments of rest and play. When they're not on duty, they're outside (if the weather is not too bad). Their good health and comfort are important, so they are monitored and competent people are called if necessary (dentist, farrier, etc.). It's interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes, especially when animals are involved. Congratulations to the Police for the way they treat their equine partners. Many thanks to Sergeant Tijms, to Jesse and to the crew for this informative video.
This was an excellent interview. The horses of the police force even wanted your attention, Jesse. You have something about you that attracts them. (Your kind nature.) That is a very different world from yours, but you managed to pull out the key elements. Nicely done, and thank you for the quick look inside the work of police horse training. 👍❤️🐴
Hi Jesse, this was so interesting and I loved the way you presented all sides of the way these horses live. I’ve always been against horses involved in riots and seeing them on the streets. But the care they are given, and love from their owners kind of makes up for the life they live. ❤️🇦🇺🐎
Very nice! Please thank her for taking the time to educate. Here in Canada, we have regional stables that transport to help each other's local communities. The RCMP is the federal program unlike Provincial. I always enjoy seeing them working in Mall parking lots during the holidays. Much safer to avoid conflict leaving. Thanks Jesse❤
This was so interesting. We also have The Royal Mounted Police in Canada, they are very impressive, just as they are in the Netherlands, big beautiful horses❤️
he did - he got an ex-bullfighting horse. These horses are badly used, and traumatised. He has been marvellous in gaining the horse's trust, and helping him to overcome his abusive past
@@catherinetaylor2333 yes I actually knew that. You’re correct but that horse was still in decent shape. Lately I’ve been watching American horse auction videos and you will not believe the sad level some of these animals have been brought down too. The wonderful thing about horses is that much of the time even the ones in the poorest of states can be brought back to the best condition. I would love to see Jesse and his partner bring back a lucky animal such as one of those and showcase the journey on TH-cam. If anyone can do it I know Jesse could.
I, too, watch those YT videos. It is crushingly sad seeing the horses, ponies and donkeys at some of the auctions/kill pens. For some people horses are literally a workhorse and they are thrown away once they have stopped being useful 😢
My grandpa was a riding police for 40 years so this was nice to see and remember him. In old times (1920 and forward) my grandpa told my mother and she told me when I started to ride, that they trained the police horses to rear and walk into riots with the front hoves kicking. It sounded very hard work for the horses and also some kind of danger for the horsebelly. But there were noone near when the hoves touched the ground again as the crowd disapeared! I can imagine the scene and it was dramatic. It would be nice to see training, if it is secure to show openly. Lot of love and protection for the police teams, horse and police and the hay...😅
Quite interesting tour. The poor farrier walks like he is crippled, tough job on the body. I like that the trailer is rear facing, or it appears so. Most trailers I Canada are front facing.
Thank you so much for your and Ingrid's time for showing us around the police horses training and care. It is something many people are interested in once seeing the horses out on the streets. Very informative and a beautiful place.
I was and still are,AMAZED at the police horse's and riders. Their level of confidence, and calmness is outstanding.I live in the USA and I believe in New York City,Morgan horses are used by their police forces. Such well trained,"gentle giants". Thank you Jesse for sharing this! xoxo😊😊❤❤
Jesse - so many thanks for seeing this, a rare and interesting glimpse about wonderful police horse’s live’s behind their work! Some cities are phasing out mounted police ~ but then regret it. There are situations where crimes cannot be better observed, prevented or controlled than by the presence, flexibility, partnership and speed of a well trained horse and his police rider. They’re incomparable. Especially in big cities. I always wished they had special hard rubber shoes though, to ease their feet and joints … Again, thank you Jesse and the Officer and horses of this mounted police force! 👍🌟
Jesse, thanks so much for this inside look at how the police house and train their mounts. I've never seen inside the stables and housing of the police horse as well as some inside info on how the officers handle their horse and equipment. Officer Ingrid was the perfect person to interview.
Wonderful interview and educational too! Thanks for the ease and gentle nature this video projects. We need more kindness in the world. Our bond with the animal kingdom is essential for our wellness and social connections especially the equine kind. They are highly intelligent, majestic and adaptable.
Jesse, this tour was amazing to watch. Thank you!! It reminds me a lot of our RCMP Horses that do Riot control AND the Musical Precision Ride here in Canada. Again, thank you for sharing a behind the scenes look at the Dutch Police Horses. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
Thanks Jesse, very interesting set up👍. I've seen some of the American Police Horses at work and being taced up. They have beautiful Horses 🌟! JO JO IN VT 🇺🇲👍
8:41 -As Kladrubers is "my" breed I feel the need to say; Kladrubers is a Czech breed and because it's a black it's most likely coming from the Slatiňany Stud ☺️ They are not Hungarian and there is no Kladrubers for sale in Hungary so a little miss info 😅♥️
Great video 😊. Thank you Jesse, you have a lovely gentle but sensitive and aware way of interacting with people, very rare in some one of your age group. Very interesting and I was so pleased that the Police horses are outside as much as they can be, excellent to know that. 👍😊xx
This was my dream job as a child, I tried to pursue it 5 years ago here in Australia but I have too many injuries to be accepted into the force. I did go the Queens Guards for 2 weeks and that was amazing.
Very informative and enjoyable video, Jesse! I learned a lot about the importance of readiness for these police and their horses. It all makes sense after you explain it!
Wow that was amazing. I wish we could have known more. Like we didn't get to see the saddle, I hoped to see you ride maybe or at least have a demo from the police officer.
It's a little unsettling to hear how many times Ingrid references riots. This was a very informative video and a well-done interview. I was a little surprised when you introduced yourself to the ferrier and dentist as Jesse, emphasis on the J rather than the way Matt always says Yessa. In English we'd always say Jess-ee. I assumed Yessa is the Dutch pronunciation. I'm getting used to Matt's STRONG Aussie accent and love how he's never met a word ending in the letter R that doesn't change to a short A.
Morning Jesse. Irene from South Africa 🇿🇦 I used to work as a Volunteer with the South African Lipizzaners. Is there any chance you could wrangle you way to visit the Lipizzaners in Viennz? That would be amazing if you could 🦄
Also Canadian and our horses we deployed during a situation not so long ago. I'm not mentioning why or the politics of it, that's not why I'm mentioning it. I'm wondering how they train horses that it's ok to invade human space in that situation yet repsect it in others. That has to be tricky or is it that everyone BUT their core carers are fair game? Pretty sure I missed the time to get an answer, just quite curious. I always feel for the horses that have to go into situations.
Very interesting. I am curious about the care of wounded horses in the field. Are they considered war horses? Are they trained to run over people or through people? What kind of armor do they wear? Are they allowed to bite? There is so much about training your horse from a young age to not bite or push people ...how do they know the difference? Are they trained to bite or kick on command? This officer shares a lot of information with us.
Hi Jesse. I always enjoy all of your videos. If you see this I want to say I would like to see you get a super great instructor like Matt has to help you continue to grow.
