Just a reply on the wool comments❤😂: I know that sheep aren’t killed for wool haha. But most of these products are bit just the wool. If you look underneath it comes with the skin as well. So I should have said sheepskin, but when you see equestrian products with wool, 95% comes with the skin sadly..
What about the bridle? It seems really nice and gentle on the horse, but if it’s made of real leather it wasn’t very nice and gentle on the cow haha 😅 Would you consider making a vegan version of it too or is that faux leather? 😇😇

I just researched it and there are major companies that have developed a synthetic saddle, boots etc...In America (Michigan)there is a women that owns Free Spirit Equestrian and developed a leather bitless bridle...I hope more Equestrians will be open to the idea....
Matt is such a king for keeping Chase and putting his well being first! He could have easily sold him when Chase wasn't able to match his needs as a dressage horse anymore.
Ikr! I admire that so much! If a person can't afford (financially and emotionally) to keep a horse through their retirement and old age, that means they can't afford to have them at all. The selling off of older and injured or sick horses is cruelty. It doesn't take much to imagine what a horrific experience that is for the horse. They're supposed to be our best friend, not an object. When we acquire an animal of any kind, it has to be a commitment to them for their lifetime, which includes caring for them through illnesses, injuries, and old age. If we don't love then enough to do that, then it would be better for us to buy a go-cart or a four wheeler, etc. They're not inanimate objects. They have thoughts and feelings, hopes, fears, and souls. When we took them from the wild we became responsible for their welfare, so we can't just throw them away when they're no longer a useful show animal.
@@cattymajiv My parents bought me a horse when I was 14. I took over paying for all his needs at 18. When I was 24, my genetic condition (that I hadn't been diagnosed with yet) forced me to stop riding. Then I was unable to work. I ended up having to sell my horse and it was DEVASTATING! Sometimes, we don't get to keep our horses no matter how mush we wish we could.
We don’t see you on a horse much so I really enjoyed watching you ride Chase and showing us the benefits of riding bitless. I think Chase enjoyed the ride and you could see his body wasn’t as stiff by the end of the ride(opinion based on my untrained eye). It looked like you and Chase were having fun. Your English comprehension and speaking skills are really,really good. Very enjoyable video.
I just have to add what a fantastic teacher you are Jesse! I used to teach (not riding tho) so I can clearly see how you present the info is so clear and well organized! I think this is the best video you or Matt has done, and is one of the best horse videos on all of TH-cam. I love that you are talking about 1 of the most basic and important topics there is, how to ride as kindly and naturally as possible. You described so clearly which equipment to use, how it works, how to use it, and how to teach your horse what you are saying with the new equipment. How to make your requests very clear to them, to reward them for finding the right answer, and how to deal with a small delay if they don't instantly find the right answer the very first time. Those are all so important, and you did it perfectly, in logical sequence, and very complete, yet also as simply as possible. Teaching is both an art and a science. Everyone thinks it's so easy, until they try it themselves. And until they are faced with measuring in some way whether the students actually learned the information! You probably prepared a lot, which enabled you to come across so naturally that it seems you are just chatting. So we're learning by accident, not having to expend great effort at it. We're relaxing, listening to our friend chat, but we are learning so much without even trying! You sir, have mastered both the science and the art of teaching! Bravo to you! This wonderful video is a shining example to other equestrians and especially to teachers and trainers. It was so enjoyable, and such a great learning experience. You're on track as one of the very TOP leaders in the most important areas of horsemanship. Dressage and all the other disciplines are nice, but they mean nothing if they're not done right. You're teaching how to do it right. We need a name for YOUR discipline of humane and loving horsemanship,to put it in a class by itself, and to emphasize its importance. I haven't got a good suggestion, but we DO need to give it a name, so that it can be advanced more effectively by its practitioners, of which there are already great many. We need a name that sounds professional, and makes clear the fact that humaneness, love, and kindness in all aspects of horsemanship are the founding principles. Does anyone have a suggestion? Sorry to be so lengthy. Despite my decades of experience, I am not as skilled a communicator as you are at 28 or 29. To you it seems to come naturally. That's the art of it! How wonderful it is to see Chase. He is so beautiful and so sweet. He is a magnificent horse and Matt has taken such wonderful care of him. I also agree with what he said about stirrups on bareback pads. Also, if you can't ride without stirrups you really can't ride well at all. Everyone needs to learn how very early on in their riding.

Thank you for mentioning this Chasingfences. I love your name! LOL! Sun protection is SO important in prevention of skin cancer, for both riders and horses. They've gotten really good at curing a lot of cancer, but prevention is a million times more effective, and is SO much easier! Sunscreen, and masks for horses are SO easy and SO effective! We owe it to ourselves and our much loved friends to use protection. ❤
@@cattymajiv All true, I wish I was better at using sunscreen earlier in life as I now need pre-cancerous spots 'frozen' which is a bit painful and take weeks to heal. I'm now careful to use sunscreen on my face year-round.
@@chasingfences1302 Yes, I agree. I changed my post, because the anticancer aspect is by FAR more important. I also wanted to reply to you and tell you that you're right. And to say that I really hope your treatment is successful, and that there are no recurrences. If it's caught early, most skin cancers are highly treatable, and I really hope yours is like that. My dad's skin cancer recurred after being removed, but they said that removing it again would cause him a lot of grief, because by then he had Alzhiemer's. They said it was slow growing, and at his age that would not be what kills him anyway. They were right. He also previously had prostate cancer, and it was removed in time as well. It remains to be seen if my sister's breast cancer treatment will be successful but we have high hopes, since treatments are becoming more and more successful over time, and hers was caught early too. The Canadian system ensures most of us do get regular pap smears and mammograms, self exams of our breasts, and prostate checks. They are uncomfortable, but they're SO important! Most of the time, when caught early many cancers are totally curable. And horse owners need to be just as proactive on their horses' behalf, using masks and sunscreen, especially for white and grey horses, and those with white spots, blazes, etc. Thanks so much Chasingfences, for the important reminder about this! ❤❤❤
Yes Jesse we sure don't want you to have to deal with spots that have to be removed. You are blond and fair skin colored you could be prone to spots like the gray horses.
Sun screen is a marketing hoax! We should not use it, and it is in heaps of cosmetics without being stated. We don't know what is in it. I had a lip balm that sent my lips literally buzzing. Quite put me off sunscreens forever.

You are so right! Because not all bitless bridles are kind! Some of the hackamores are very cruel, and dangerous in the hands of a novice or a heavy handed rider. Like Jesse, I dislike the cross under kind too. I think it's a really poor design, and unnecessarily complicated. The 2 best I've seen are Jesse's Nalanta, and the bitless from Shae at Free Spirit Equestrian. It doesn't have a brand name, but can be found on her channel or website. There are similarities between them, but Shae's models don't have the metal star. They both have padded bands and the anatomical headband or poll strap, and attractive brow bands.
Hi Jesse ... ever since seeing you jumping Chase over that chain on your trail ride and when he spooked at the fallen tree, I was so impressed with your seat and instinctive reaction that takes one a lifetime of riding to accomplish .... Aw! My mare had electrochemotherapy for a melanoma on her tail almost two years ago. It is amazing technology. She is black, so it was a very dangerous type of melanoma on her and they were highly concerned about it and were even talking about a potential tail amputation - but after one treatment the little bit that was not able to removed fell off and died and it has yet to come back
I agree your attitude and horsemanship, is in a class of its own. It’s very kind and natural , which I’m trying to do a lot of with my horse. Trying to get off my hands, which is habit I had from when I was younger. I’m a new fan and am keen to watch everything u do

Actually there are a LOT of equestrian TH-camrs and IG posters who are 100% dedicated to kindness as their founding principal. Jesse is probably the best, and possibly the most well known, but he FAR from being alone. There are millions of us who are like him, or are trying to be like him! There are some very well known old guys, who are old school but pretend to be kindness based, but when the chips are down they show their true colors. These guys sell books and videos, and are heavily business oriented, which is how they got famous. But they are very much being ignored by the modern audience, as people realize that they are only pretenders. I'm not saying all old guys are no good, just that anyone who bases a business on horses should be taken with a grain of salt, because some of them are just posers. Their methods should be examined very closely. Jesse's methods always pass any test with flying colors! So I'm doubling down on the idea that he is 1 of the best, or maybe even the best.
@@cattymajiv yeah i agree with you! there are tons more. but he stands out. i also in a way meant a section famous riders(didnt want to hurt any feelings so i didnt keep it lol) but many top riders with millions of gear on their horses couldnt top jesse, he has that spesific training and trust with his that alot of people lack .

I ❤ the natural feeling of being able to feel my horse moving underneath me. Going bitless would take me to another wonderful level. 😊 When I was about 10, I rode my stocky, round as a butter ball type figure on him 😅 and I rode him bareback with a bosal pretty much always. Now, that's the way to learn to ride. It served me well in on any horse or pony that I rode. I highly recommend it for anyone just starting or with years of experience. 😊

I thought his head band had that. I will have to go and review the video where he introduced the Nalanta bridle to us to be sure, but I'm almost sure it does have that. In fact I remember thinking, when I saw a video on another new bitless bridle, that the one being introduced had that feature, just like Jesse's. I could be wrong though, so I will check. That type of feature is usually described as being "anatomically correct", or in short, just as "anatomical". You hear or see that referring to both bridles (headbands) and girths.

Could someone explain to me why chase is letting his rear legs "shuffle" (he barely raises them) when doing the "dancy" trot near the end 25:55 ? Is this normal? (genuinely asking) He looks so kind ❤ I'm looking forward to seeing more bitless lessons with him!
Jesse is asking Chase to collect. It means Chase has to carry more of his weight on his hind legs. That is not easy for Chase to do because he is only in light work and doesn't have as much muscles in his hind legs compared to a horse in full dressage work. So for Chase it's normal to shuffle his rear legs, because for him it's genuinely hard work to pick his feet up with the extra weight on them. That is also why Jesse doesn't ask him to do it for very long. But a dressage horse in full work and a certain level of training would have a much easier time doing that and it would be able to pick its feet up a lot higher. Hope that explains it. Jesse has the most sweet yet firm ways of getting Matt to know his way is as good as Matt's way just different. He does very well with Matt's strong and outgoing personality .

Yes, it’s the sheath! Not a bad thing, it just happens with geldings when air goes in and out of their sheath, particularly when they are relaxed!

Thank you for mentioning this Chasingfences. I love your name! LOL! Sun protection is SO important in prevention of skin cancer, for both riders and horses. They've gotten really good at curing a lot of cancer, but prevention is a million times more effective, and is SO much easier! Sunscreen, and masks for horses are SO easy and SO effective! We owe it to ourselves and our much loved friends to use protection. ❤
@@cattymajiv All true, I wish I was better at using sunscreen earlier in life as I now need pre-cancerous spots 'frozen' which is a bit painful and take weeks to heal. I'm now careful to use sunscreen on my face year-round.
@@chasingfences1302 Yes, I agree. I changed my post, because the anticancer aspect is by FAR more important. I also wanted to reply to you and tell you that you're right. And to say that I really hope your treatment is successful, and that there are no recurrences. If it's caught early, most skin cancers are highly treatable, and I really hope yours is like that.
My dad's skin cancer recurred after being removed, but they said that removing it again would cause him a lot of grief, because by then he had Alzhiemer's. They said it was slow growing, and at his age that would not be what kills him anyway. They were right. He also previously had prostate cancer, and it was removed in time as well. It remains to be seen if my sister's breast cancer treatment will be successful but we have high hopes, since treatments are becoming more and more successful over time, and hers was caught early too.
The Canadian system ensures most of us do get regular pap smears and mammograms, self exams of our breasts, and prostate checks. They are uncomfortable, but they're SO important! Most of the time, when caught early many cancers are totally curable.
And horse owners need to be just as proactive on their horses' behalf, using masks and sunscreen, especially for white and grey horses, and those with white spots, blazes, etc.

Yes Jesse we sure don't want you to have to deal with spots that have to be removed. You are blond and fair skin colored you could be prone to spots like the gray horses.
Sun screen is a marketing hoax! We should not use it, and it is in heaps of cosmetics without being stated.
We don't know what is in it. I had a lip balm that sent my lips literally buzzing. Quite put me off sunscreens forever.

You are so right! Because not all bitless bridles are kind! Some of the hackamores are very cruel, and dangerous in the hands of a novice or a heavy handed rider.
Like Jesse, I dislike the cross under kind too. I think it's a really poor design, and unnecessarily complicated.
The 2 best I've seen are Jesse's Nalanta, and the bitless from Shae at Free Spirit Equestrian. It doesn't have a brand name, but can be found on her channel or website.
There are similarities between them, but Shae's models don't have the metal star. They both have padded bands and the anatomical headband or poll strap, and attractive brow bands.

Aw! My mare had electrochemotherapy for a melanoma on her tail almost two years ago. It is amazing technology. She is black, so it was a very dangerous type of melanoma on her and they were highly concerned about it and were even talking about a potential tail amputation - but after one treatment the little bit that was not able to removed fell off and died and it has yet to come back
I agree your attitude and horsemanship, is in a class of its own. It’s very kind and natural , which I’m trying to do a lot of with my horse. Trying to get off my hands, which is habit I had from when I was younger. I’m a new fan and am keen to watch everything u do

Actually there are a LOT of equestrian TH-camrs and IG posters who are 100% dedicated to kindness as their founding principal. Jesse is probably the best, and possibly the most well known, but he FAR from being alone. There are millions of us who are like him, or are trying to be like him!
There are some very well known old guys, who are old school but pretend to be kindness based, but when the chips are down they show their true colors. These guys sell books and videos, and are heavily business oriented, which is how they got famous. But they are very much being ignored by the modern audience, as people realize that they are only pretenders.
I'm not saying all old guys are no good, just that anyone who bases a business on horses should be taken with a grain of salt, because some of them are just posers. Their methods should be examined very closely.
Jesse's methods always pass any test with flying colors! So I'm doubling down on the idea that he is 1 of the best, or maybe even the best.
@@cattymajiv yeah i agree with you! there are tons more. but he stands out. i also in a way meant a section famous riders(didnt want to hurt any feelings so i didnt keep it lol) but many top riders with millions of gear on their horses couldnt top jesse, he has that spesific training and trust with his that alot of people lack .

When I was about 10, I rode my stocky, round as a butter ball type figure on him 😅 and I rode him bareback with a bosal pretty much always. Now, that's the way to learn to ride. It served me well in on any horse or pony that I rode. I highly recommend it for anyone just starting or with years of experience. 😊

I thought his head band had that. I will have to go and review the video where he introduced the Nalanta bridle to us to be sure, but I'm almost sure it does have that.
In fact I remember thinking, when I saw a video on another new bitless bridle, that the one being introduced had that feature, just like Jesse's. I could be wrong though, so I will check.
That type of feature is usually described as being "anatomically correct", or in short, just as "anatomical". You hear or see that referring to both bridles (headbands) and girths.

Could someone explain to me why chase is letting his rear legs "shuffle" (he barely raises them) when doing the "dancy" trot near the end 25:55 ? Is this normal? (genuinely asking) He looks so kind ❤ I'm looking forward to seeing more bitless lessons with him!
Jesse is asking Chase to collect. It means Chase has to carry more of his weight on his hind legs. That is not easy for Chase to do because he is only in light work and doesn't have as much muscles in his hind legs compared to a horse in full dressage work.
So for Chase it's normal to shuffle his rear legs, because for him it's genuinely hard work to pick his feet up with the extra weight on them. That is also why Jesse doesn't ask him to do it for very long.
But a dressage horse in full work and a certain level of training would have a much easier time doing that and it would be able to pick its feet up a lot higher.
