I never heard of the KCS until I read a train magazine article about them about 30 years ago. In that same year Lionel released it's first GP38 in KCS livery. Well, I feel in love with that "Plain Jane " Ghost White Diesel locomotive. Years later, I sold it. Later I felt bad about. So just a few days ago, I purchased a Lionel KCS Southern Belle in it's original plastic. Never Opened! Now, I need to find that Ghost White engine. I live in SC right now, but when I lived in Tacoma, Washington, There was a train shop that painted new locomotives in that KCS grey. I liked those engines too.

I’ve seen a Union Pacific leading with a KSC and that’s the only time I’ve seen KCS in real life. And i love seeing it on your video. Nice! 👍🏻 I hope I recorded at that time.

The scenery (the sky and the trees) beginning at 4:15 is really nice. Also, I would love to see a consist of freshly released KCS-branded grain hoppers and new Dash 9's/SD70's pulling them. I didn't realize how nice KCS paint schemes actually were. (I have UP and BNSF here where I live.

I worked in a transload facility this summer and we would get strings of cars that were rarely broken up, and often this KCS ES44 would come in the yard and oh man it was gorgeous. The other class 1's locos were always run down and dirty, but man whenever the KCS trains would show up they were always sparkling clean and with a beautiful coat of paint. They take care of their equipment and their people.

Glad to see you got the Southern Belle hauling the x-mas train! I've only ever seen the SB moving twice in person, once sitting still up near the station in KC. I remember the xmas one coming through Decatur, AR a couple times when I was a kid as well.

I've railfanned a little there when I was living in Cuero while working on pipelines during 2014 til 2015 when I got fed up with them and quit. Used to go there to Victoria, Bloomington, Long Mott and Flatonia on the rare times I was off and had time to go trackside which was very little. I have a few video's on here of those areas but most are of trains back in my homeward neck of the woods of Alabama. Good to see someone made an Ed Wood style production of the KCS around this area though.

Great video! If I was to model a layout, it would be KCS! Clean (gleaming at times!) locomotives, a wide variety of rolling stock (Box Cars! Box Cars! Box Cars!) from all sorts of lines, consists, and even rather short trains. Up here where I am (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), Canadian Pacific has some of the grubbiest looking loco's (certainly not interested in PR) and it's mostly really long unit trains. Only once in a blue moon will a box car show up anymore, though more variety is seen on the north-south Calgary to Edmonton line, but nothing at least as shown on this video! Well done!

If I remember correctly, there was another KCS movie video that I used to watch as a kid. The 1st video was the one you chased the KCS with the K5LAR24 or something. The 2nd clip was a KCS local with a grey ghost standart cab unit leading. Do you know anything about this?

hi there, I'm a fairly new railfan. and I am hooked! however I must tell you something that really bothers the hell out of me. I have a DVD that was a xmas gift last year titled "The Best Railroads in America", by TeleRail. I was bothered by the fact that when they cover the big rr's NS, CSX, BNSF and UP, they even cover Altoona PA when ConRail was still around. but there isn't a single mention of Kansas City Southern. I don't know why that is or was but I have enjoyed watching videos on KCS and if another video should be made by them I intend to shoot my Big Mouth off. not fair too KCS fans, of which I am one. Grew up in Rochester NY but I live near Orlando FL and a Huge fan of KCS. Thanks for listening. ☺✌

It's ok dude, but about 20 min of the same thing is all I could handle.
Maybe some info on kcs...and some older film, it would be great. Kcs is my home road, I lived a little more than 100yds away from the main in Westville, ok. It was a bitter-sweet time in my life. But getting to ride in the local when they changed cars at the mill, and get to pull back out on the main, and shown how to use the brakes was more than words for a 13 yr old. That was 33 yrs ago. Long live the KCS!

spacecalander It's a heritage paint scheme, Southern Belle, used during the KCS's E- and F-unit eras of the 1930s-60s. KCS basically pulled a Santa Fe, like when they bought back the Warbonnet in 1990.
