This song is do heartbreaking in so many levels. My 94 year old grandma has Alzheimer and the pain she must feel to relive over and over again her childhood during the war.. She many times mistakes her own terrible experiences to her grandchildren and it just breaks my heart. We are lucky that we still have her and she rememberes most of us, but at the same time it feels so unfair that she has to relive the horrors of the wartime in her last years. I can't even imagine the pain of our veterans who have been affected by this decease.
I know how it feels like, lost my mothers father due to brain cancer, size of a fist, changed him completely, the last time i saw him he stared right through my eyes, he wasn't there anymore. He still remembered the sea, that still touches me but memory loss is one of the most cruel things someone of your loved ones can have.
Hello and thanks for reacting to my request : ). I believe this song is about a veteran who lives in a rest home and has some kind of memory disorder like alzheimer.
My grandfather was a veteran of the Continuation War (few years after the Winter War). He never talked about his service, but I do know he lost some of his brothers to it. When he passed away, literally few days after I got engaged to be married, I was able to return to my home country for his funeral. The veterans choir came there to sing a famous "Veteraanien Iltahuuto" song, which is a tradition when a veteran of those wars passes away. Hearing that song, made me realize just how much respect he had with his brothers in arms and what was the magnitude of the sacrifice he had made for my country. Rest in peace, Jaakko vaari (Jaakko granddad).
This song name is a reference to "Tuntematon sotilas"(Unknown soldier) which is famous finnish novel about continuation war. There are 3 movie adaptation about it(1955, 1985, 2017) which are traditionally watched during independence day. The newest one(also has extended version which was turned into mini series) is really great but I don't think there is way to watch it whole for free with english subtitles, but there are clips in youtube and of course you can pirate it with subtitles. I recommend watching it if you can.
He's grandpa were winter war veteran in this song. Like all of our Finn's. And he were sick and tiered already because those veterans are like 100 years old now. That's how I understand this song.
He sings about his grandpa who fought in wars, who hopes to leave this life now, not later. Potilas= patient Sotilas=soldier. Unknown Patient is translated to Unknown Soldier, to every Finn. This song is an iconic treasure.
This song is so beautiful, moving and sad… My grandma used to have Alzheimer’s before she passed away and as her granddaughter I can relate to this song so much. She lived with us for few years when I was around 10-13.
Within an aging population memory disorders touch more and more people. Especially when the social safety nets are being dismantled and taking care of the elderly people, who have outlived their productivity, has been declared as a too big of a economical task for the society to cope with: "SENTENCED - No One There (OFFICIAL VIDEO)".
These songs make me so sad because they are true. The elderly lie and wait for death for years. The grandfathers died a long time ago, but the wait for my grandmother's death was long. Someone just stole everything and "it would be my turn now get out of here".
You should react to "Elastinen ja Jenni Vartiainen - Epäröimättä hetkeekään | Emma Gaala 2021". Emma Gaala is like the Finnish grammys. Elastinen is a rapper who started in the 90s with Fintelligens and he has been frieds with Jenni for many years. This is their first song together and it is beautiful. :)
Many Finnish songs are melancholic and deep, Viidestoista Yö by Juice, Lumi teki enkelin eteiseen by Hector and Rakkaus on Lumivalkoinen are some deep songs too
This is one of my most favorite Finnish songs. The music video is heart-breaking. Another good one is Jippu & Samuli Edelmann - Jos sä tahdot niin, or Chisu - Sabotage
This is song is critique towards finnish health care of old people, which is too often just keeping them heavily medicated until they die. On the other hand it tells about war veterans, to few which are still left and how most of them returned mentally broken and often with serious injuries/handicaped too... :/
I love your prononcien but rhis is pretty parody for those who actually fight for this country but arttu do honor for ppl who actually was there like My greit granfarher
Ciao Mauro. Can you react to this amazingly beautiful and a legendary Finnish soft rock song: Eppu Normaali - Kun Olet Poissa. 💖💖th-cam.com/video/yb_egnePb_c/w-d-xo.html
The sad thing is that most of these Soviets that was sent to attack through Suomussalmi /Raate was from Ukraine 😢. Today we see them as our brothers and our hearts are with Ukraine today 🙏🇺🇦🇫🇮💪🙏

I only know this song from an old STP (Finnish YTP) and remember that version of this song word by word 😭😭
Mun kotikylässä melutaan joka yö, oon varma et ne on Ylänen jätkät. Tuhkatkin ne kaapista syö ja tuhkakuppiin jättää kuivamuonat
This is such a beautiful song❤thanks Mauro for reacting❤
I'm not sure if you have checked out Arttu Wiskari-Mökkitie or Yö-Joutsenlaulu. Those are also very sad/melancholic songs.
