Personally I think it was due to stress. Debra Jo Rupp from that 70s’ show had a laugh of similar energy and she stated it was due to her being on set for the first time and a stressed out laugh just came out. Maybe Pekora is “finally” used to streaming so she’s kinda relaxed now. Of course this is all just speculation.
Interesting, I didnt know that stress could affect us in that way. Even if we never find out why its nice to have it documented like this.

Pekora's signature laugh was a thing since her Nico Nico days, she wasn't a newbie at streaming so I doubt it was stress. This seems to be a case of people growing older, Pekora is thirty this year if the math is right.
That's probably what caused it the first time, but she may have kept using it because she saw how much people liked it
Well, personally I think it's because her throat's problem. Back in the past she always have hoar throat every year and each time it happen the doctor tell her to rest. Even though the main cause is because she stream and talk a lot but the laugh even make it worse (she said her throat hurt when she laugh too much). Of course she like streaming so maybe she must restrain her laugh to keep her throat healthy.
Also I think one more reason is in the past years her goal is become most famous vtuber that why she work so hard, and she already become the most watched female streamer so I guess she satisficed, no need overwork anymore.
This is what people need to see, Pekora's iconic laugh is just one of her many kinds. People's laugh tend to change sometimes they don't just realized it.
Honestly, I'd say it was likely strain or injury. She mentioned in a stream specifically that she can't or won't be able to laugh like she used to anymore a few weeks back.
While Pekora did said that, she never mentioned anything about her throat having problems or anything, only that she simply can't do it anymore.
@@AgentKzixtyit really isnt that deep, its not that her laugh is different, but her voice range is also different (like a tone and a half deeper) which probably means she underwent the last stretch of growth that girls go through when they transition to full blown adults. Meaning Pekora probably started streaming when she was 18 or 19 and then had her last dimorphic stretch a couple of years down the road.
@@AgentKzixty I'm pretty sure she did though. Didn't she even have to take some time off to recover from vocal nodules? I don't remember entirely, but she definitely had issues.

It's not going down at all, it's only going up.
I think Peko gradually realized that she has to tone down her vocal chords, so that’s why the laugh isn’t as high pitched
My belief also. Pekora works too hard, & has been for too long, had a bunch of injuries & health problems as a result. Hololive is like the WWE & will happily wear down their talent, especially if they're naturally hard workers like Pekora. I hope changing up her laugh makes for less strain on her vocal cords.
No matter how her laughs may change, its still precious. I wonder if the laugh ended up hurting her voice a bit. I know that happens. A lot of Hololivers can get throat issues when they're constantly using a different voice from their real one.
Covid might be a factor
Covid, wear and tear despite Pekora's stream voice not being too far.

To me it was always HA↗ HA↗ HA↗ HA↗ HA, starting low going high.
She still laughs like that, it's just that the starting point is lower, so it doesn't end on the old high note.
I'm guessing she was quite young(below 20?) when she started in 2019, as she got older her voice matured and went naturally a bit lower, causing this effect. Probably in conjunction with also going to to spare her vocal cords a bit.

All streamers talk much so is not hard to believe that their voices get worn out.
Oh it's easy for problems to develop. You get a lot of throat problems. It's the human body. Any wear and tear will break it down. Polyps, loss of voice, even throat cancer in extreme cases. A radio DJ in my city, pretty well known, got throat cancer out of nowhere. Met him once, really nice guy. Died a number of years back. People who use their vocal chords CONSTANTLY are going to develop problems, yes. It can be alleviated with exercises, stretches, mostly with the body. Lots of the body stress or tension can run rampant on the vocal chords. And of course you need to keep it hydrated. And this isn't even counting COVID. When I caught it my voice dropped a bit lower too. There are SO many factors and SO many things that can arise from it. It's still part of the human body, and we see athletes break down. Same thing goes for VA's.

I'm a very perceptive person so seeing the reports and information people can gather from analyzing someone's laugh is pretty interesting since I couldn't even tell if something was different. But now I can see the vocal strength was definitely lesser than it was before, maybe just a different mic though.

Maybe she has been reducing its use because she feels uneasy and uncomfortable about being known for her laugh more than for anything else. Yes, she's literally losing her essence, but I prefer her to be as comfortable as possible.
