This was super helpful, thank a bunch. I just got a Mavic Air 2 for my channel and want it to track me on trail rides so this was right on the money. Good luck with the channel 👍🏻
Good Videos! Just got one of these and i am also a mtber so this video helped me understand more about the active track! Youve got a new subscriber too! Thanks!
Awesome video and observations. Thanks! Spark has the same issue with losing subject when speed changes too quickly.. either slowing down or speeding up too quickly. Thanks for this
@@uosocal a couple days ago, wide open field... Air 2 was able to follow in Active Track, Trace mode, best speed 16.4mph... spot on what you said. nice work.
Dude great feed back, and video I hit the Subscribe I am rider and creator in Colorado. Been trying to get the mavic air2 right while riding still tough with controller for sure. I reserved a skydio because of my frustrations with. Mavic air 2 is still a phenomenal drone just not as much solo active trips . Good vid thanks man
Very nice test, it did quite qwell I´d say... Just the 16mph limit is a bit of a bummer, since following cars and fast moving objects will be very difficult then
I haven't done any testing with Active Track while in Sport mode. A lot of the DJI video they shot for the Active Track video must have been in Sport Mode.
Hey man, awesome videos! I saw on another guys video that the trace mode only goes to 16-17mph in normal mode - you need to go Sport mode to go faster, but that turns off hazard sensors. If you use the Parallel tho - that goes to mid 20s on Normal. (Apparently - haven’t tested myself yet). Active Track 3.0 seems really cool tho - I’m dying to get out and test myself. :-)
UOSocal Yeah - keep up the good work mate, loving the videos. Keen mountain biker myself (got a Nomad and a Levo :-) ... but in Scotland, weathers been rubbish, and lockdown should be easing soon and I can hit some proper hills and have a play with the drone :-). Happy trails man!
Excellent video thanks for sharing, I’m have difficulty getting the drone to lock on me to track. I’m not sure if it’s the clothes or light conditions making them hard for the drone to pick me out.
Make sure all of the drone settings are on auto. No manual settings. Sometimes when I was on my bike it wouldn't lock. Also, make sure the drone is close enough, within 20 feet, and looking down at less than 45 degree angle.
UOSocal thanks I’ll try that, I’ve had in sport travelling at 30mph on the motorcycle. When it works it works very well I just can’t seam to get consistency
great video. super helpful. I played with this recently. After 20 minutes-ish, battery hit 30% and auto Return To Home kicked in.. and it head back to where i started 2 miles away.. My Spark had Dynamic Home point update... the Air 2 doesn't seem to have that. Have you had your Air 2 run low on battery and try to return home a long way away? if so, have you found some way to get it to hover in place? with the controller in your pack, seems like it could take a minute to get the controller out, hit pause and then fly it to you instead of returning to where you started flying. I used several tips from both this video and your other to get me going.. you saved me a TON of time trying to figure out Active Track. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure the Air 2 has the dynamic home point. Its been awhile since I've used it. You have to be really aware of where the drone is when its tracking you and the remote is put away. Listen for the beeps of the controller. I did have this happen to me once. Had to get the controller out, cancel the rth, and manually fly it back to me.
@@uosocal Thanks... that's exactly what happened to me.. heard the beeps, stopped and grabbed it before it went too far... if you find how to turn it on, let me know.. i can't find it in the manuals or google... awesome drone... i just watch my flight time, and, like you say, listen for the beeps!! Thanks! Also loved the video of you guys in the truck doing POI testing. cool stuff.
Great test, thanks for taking the time. Someone suggested the active track can lead so you more or less push the drone down the trail. Have you tried that?
From my testing of the drone, that doesn't work. I know they show that in the DJI video, but it won't do that autonomously. Even walking straight at the drone , it will move to the side after about 30 feet or so.
@@uosocal that is done using just the spot functionality I guess. It's manual flown 🤔 In theory flying backwards should be possible, since the drone got the same sensors in the back which it got in front. Not sure why they haven't implemented that like the Skydio ones where you select a sector
DJI does not track the phone. It is strictly vision based. The new Mavic 3 has been doing better. The Skydio 2 is still the best while using the beacon. Videos of both on my channel.
this is sooo sick! awesome shots there:) I really want get a drone actually, what brand do you recommend ? love the channel btw! would be awesome if ya could maybe check mine out sometime too?:))
Thanks for a good test and footage!
Also sun makes confuse too.

It does a decent job for mtb. Just got a skydio 2. Only used it a couple of times, but it seems a lot better for tracking.
awesome review

Spark only follows up to about 10mph. Air 2 looks awesome
I'm pretty happy with the MA2.

Man, that was some great footage on the rock garden of Rock It. Didn't take long at all for it to reacquire you before the step up.
I was really impressed with that part.

Try out some red/blue/violet/yellow/orange pattern on the backpack. Black isn't really a great pattern to find on a picture (:
Now try it with orange clothes, or something like that, you really put it on test camouflaged with the environment haha

What do you do with the controller while riding, put it in your backpack?
I use a couple different backpacks. I show the lowepro450 in this video at the 9:15 mark. I show the USWE backpack in the part 1 video.
I wonder if your bag had something high vis it would track better.
Is there no option to follow the gps-signal of the controller or your mobile? In these situations that might be the better choice.

Where are you putting the phone/controller when you start riding?
In a small eva case, inside my backpack.
What do you do with your remote while you 're riding??
I see now.. I was concerned about the remote in a back pack bouncing around..
What if it says the aircraft will go to the homepoint in 10 seconds ?? While your are biking
You can cancel the RTH, and fly it back to you.
👍👍
Do you mind if I put you as recommended channel on my page!
Not at all. Thank you. I sub'd your channel as well.
So the active track will descend in elevation too? Still figuring out my mavic air 2
Yes it will descend in Active Track. The descent speed is a little slower than forward or back. Just make sure you are in Normal mode and not Tripod.
@@uosocal I wonder if it will do so skiing or if the white snow will confuse it...
👍
did you try sports mode?
I have. That will be my next video.
UOSocal can't wait to see it, thank you 🥰
Mav air 2 Why dosent track on higher frame rates? That's brake point
Probably not enough processing power to track and compress video file.

I have only used DJI. They are easy to get and very reliable. The Skydio 2 looks awesome, but not available anywhere.
